I challenge anyone to tell me what they could not have discussed at that summit through e-mail or Skype. Sure there could be interpretation barriers, but they could easily just invite the interpreters to the e-mail or Skype session too, no?

Seriously, 200 million for seven world leaders to meet up for a meeting?
I know this is pointless but...do you honestly think that this summit is a meeting between 7 people?

Not literally. I'm sure they invite all kinds of experts on myriad subjects that they'll be discussing too. yet even that for the most part could be exchanged via MS Word attachments to emails. Maybe just meet once a year at the UN. Good enough.

Good enough for you perhaps.

I am guessing you have never been in a delegation.

I wonder if there will be any benefit to the local economy?

But only at the expense of the national economy.

Oh, and please allow me to clarify that 'maybe.' I'd lived in Charlevoix for almost a year many years ago. They have a very small population. Something as big as the G7 could cause labour and other shortages and price increases. We're not talking about a minor economic stimulus but a major infusion of money into such a small community as to cause temporary economic disequilibrium.

I think you better sit down for this :)

Taxpayers to shell out $605M for G7 meeting

That's not a stimulus. For a small economy like that of Charlevoix, that could cause labour and other shortages, temporary localized inflation outstripping wages, and then a crash once the G7 leaves. That's not necessarily good for the local economy. That just destabilizes it.

18 year old+ Scotch ain't cheap. The liquor bill has gotta be pretty crazy.

Wait a minute. I thought they were supposed to be discussing important public-policy matters. How are they supposed to do that effectively when drunk? That might explain a lot.

That's a lot of money too meet up and accomplish nothing.

Now now, they might accomplish some things, just not anything I couldn't see them accomplish more efficiently over Skype and email.

There was no discussion, two hundred million ain,t too much not to have a disscussion, so it in fact would have been the great party hardly discussed at all, and the work produced praised by it,s 200 million price tag, no one would believe nothing was acomplished
