So far I must commend the Harper Organazation for beiging to carry out all of there campaign promises. I hope that someday soon they are able to make the senate Free and Elected. A free, elected, and effective sentate would be one of the greatest advances in Canadain Politics since the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Well Bill they couldn't hang around until death do them part anymore, that cheers me up. I like the idea of electing Senators, but shall it come to pass we shall see. Harper is in for one hell of a fight, these guys aren't going to want to give up that gravy train. They really like gravy.

I must say that you put forward an intersting point. Effective would mean Senators that actuallly show up for work. Effective would mean Senators that actually, truly review bills. Effective would mean a Senate that gets the job in which they were elected done. An elected Senator would not have a free ride until they are 75, they would need to truly answer to the people.

oh how simple ...We MUST have more than one place to pass laws... we are close to 4 year dicatorships now when we have a majority....If we had one house we would have to have a referendum on 40% of the bills. Sure if our system actually was based on the local rep listening to his riding then reporting to the house..but it's not that way... The Prime minister whips,,they all follow and the bill is passed.....We need better then that..I don;t care which party is in

I don't know how you can stand not having elected officials - put into office by the people - it seems antiquated and stuck in the dark days when royal primogeniture was the "law" of the land no matter
what idiots were bred.

The intensity of focus and capable intellect required of law makers these days should be demanded by
the people - who have a say in where their taxation money is spent - right up to the last Yea or Nay.

I was just on a mission to find out about the military vote in California and in my local precincts because the military votes are always "late" and often used to round out a final count for a win or lose situation.

I was able to call my local government official and get it directly from them how these military ballots are distributed and returned and why they often are late - because of the relocation of military personnel within the battle area..... I like that one on one contact....gives a person a feeling of belonging.

I agree lets elect them to the Senate, those fellas are not going to go quietly they will cling to their chairs like lobsters protesting getting into my soup pot. I want front row seats, it should be very amusing.

Was Victoria, now Ottawa
Alas, Harpers plan isn't to have it free and elected. He just wants to get those Liberals out so he can fill it with Conservatives. You have to look closely at it.
