You really are funny. An expert could say, "This item is made of iron" and what you are saying is that if you say, "That item is made of calcium", it's just as valid. Hilarious. IOW, to you, experts are no different than laymen in whichever field the experts' fields of study are. roflmao

You are talking of apples and oranges here, Gilbert. Saying that something is made of iron is statement, a proposition which can easily be proved true or false, so there can be no two opinions about it.

Whether one should put a comma or a full stop or a semi colon in a particular place is a very subjective decision, there is no way to prove it true or false. Experts may say one thing, but popular usage may say something else.

This is a common mistake many people make, they apply the certainties from science to metaphysics, philosophy or such inexact disciplines (thus, since there are absolutes in science, there are also absolutes in morality, moral absolutes).

Most of statements in science can be proved true or false, most of the statements in soft disciplines are a matter of opinion.

You poor, sad, little man. You obviously didn't look at the links I posted. Look, silly, here are some instances: periods denote ends of sentences, question marks are for the ends of questions, colons are for introducing things in a list, semi colons are for separating independent clauses, etc. Some have more than one use, but they aren't interchangeable. If you do mix them up, you change the meanings of what you are saying at best. At worse, no-one will have a clue what you are saying.

There is no need for name calling and personal abuse, Gilbert. That was totally uncalled for. I will give you one more chance. If you repeat personal abuse, personal insults, you go on my ignore list.

Indeed, what is it about so many posters, that they cannot hold a reasonable, rational dialog, that they cannot disagree in a civil, polite, dignified manner? Does it stem from low self esteem, short temper, emotional problems, what?

Anyway, so if you want to go on my ignore list, go ahead and repeat the insult, filth and personal abuse.

Yep, I never could understand why someone would make an enemy of someone over a difference of opinion. I've found staunch Union people to be among the worst. But I think you hit the nail on the head when you alluded to it be a feeling of inferiority.

Speaking of not carrying on a reasonable, rational (that's redundant) dialogue, you sure make an awful lot of assumptions that everyone else is at fault and not you. It isn't everyone else, you myopic man, it's YOU.

Filth? Insult? Personal abuse? I called you "silly". Nothing like exaggerating, is there, Joe?

You still don’t’ get it, do you? You cannot differentiate between personal abuse, personal insults and honest, rational disagreement on issues. And you are supposed to be an ‘expert’ in English language.

Anyway, that is your problem, not mine. This discussion is over. I will give you one more chance. If you continue with personal insults, personal abuse, you will be on my ignore list, you can join the other gutter mouths there.

I'm curious: is that threat supposed to bother anyone? Being put on ignore by some guy on the internet? That's almost as much of a threat as a dirty look from some old lady on a bus.

It is not a threat, TenPenny, it is a promise. If a gutter mouth keeps insulting me all the time, I don’t want to read his insults. I put him on ignore not as a punishment to him (why would I care about him, he is a Troll), but I do it for my sake. He is free to insult me to his heart’s content (and most of the Trolls whom I have put on ignore probably do insult me non stop).

But I don’t have to read their insults. So putting somebody on ignore is not a threat (as you rightly point out), it is a promise.

 We don't have to, Joey.... You do fine on that all by your li'l ol' lonesome - just by being you....

The fun part is: when you don't see the rope, you clothesline yourself all the better.....
