The Germans are playing Arsenal in the Europa League this evening

Thousands of German football fans brought parts of central London to a standstill ahead of their team's Europa League match against Arsenal.

Some 20,000 FC Cologne supporters have come to London, and briefly brought the West End to a halt as they marched down Oxford Street.

It is the first time in 25 years Cologne - nicknamed Billy Goats - has played in an international club competition.

Police said flares were let off but reported no 'significant disorder'.

The Bundesliga estimated around 20,000 fans had travelled to the capital to support their team.

It added only 2,900 tickets had been allocated to the away fans for tonight's match at the Emirates Stadium in north London.

In a statement the Met Police said: "At around 15:00 BST on Thursday, 14 September a large group of football fans gathered in Oxford Street.

"The group was at the location for about 30 minutes whilst they boarded public transport to travel to a football match this evening.

"They did throw bottles and let off flares, but there was no significant disorder, police were on scene and there have been no arrests. The group has now left the area."

I wonder what it feels like for all those EU citizens to suddenly be in the free world.

I imagine they're just real jealous of the lager louts facedown in a puddle of puke.

Too right they're jealous. They're jealous of the fact that if they came up against an opposing army of English or Russian fans they would get creamed.

Best way to control the dim-witted masses is through the frenzy of commercialized sports. This is to ensure the emotional energy of the people is always channeled into it and never against real political and social problems. This strategy has been quite successful since the Romans and their public gladitorial games.

And what, exactly, have you oh-so-clever and above-it-all folk achieved?

A quick list will do.

It takes a lot more police to look for terrorists and prevent terror attacks than it does to police an unruly crowd.

Nah, the best way is religion. Especially if you invent some bullshit deity and demand strict obedience to it, or else!! What a great way to squelch free thought and the free exchange of ideas. Pesky ideals those are if you want to control the dim-witted masses. But, in order to control them, you need to make them dim-witted first. Hence the strong desire to indoctrinate kids at such a young age. It's so much easier to control the masses if you control the message as well and can instill that message in young, receptive but defenseless minds.
What truly boggles my mind is the number of adults who get conned into that religion nonsense. Now THAT'S dim-witted.

You have to save where there are savings to be had or you can just scare the crap out of the public till they hand over more dough with bucket bombs on the subway...

oh wait
:)
that's terrorism!

Seems they had that many Arsenal fans protesting for Arsen Wenger's sacking a while back

It seems weird, though - they may not have won the title since 2004 but they have won the FA Cup three times in the last four seasons.

They beat Cologne 3-1 in their opening Champions League match but have made a poor start to the Premier League. It looks as though they are about to draw 0-0 with Chelsea.

If they don't win anything this season then Wenger will probably be gone.

Are you saying the police deliberately put the bomb on the train in order to try and get more money from the government?
