Whether it’s an intentional play on the phrase “inner beauty” or just a coincidence, a new fat-shaming trend called “thinner beauty” has emerged thanks to Photoshop and Instagram.
The trend takes real photos of plus-sized women and men and digitally edits them so they look thinner. All this without the consent of the people in the photos. The images are cropped side by side and captions are added such as "beautiful" and "not beautiful" - emphasizing that a thin body is the only type of body that looks beautiful.
There is a new Instagram account dedicated to Thinner Beauty, with only two photos so far that have been posted. Under the account profile description it says: "We believe thinner bodies are the best type. Fat acceptance should never be acceptable in today's society.”
According to the Huff Po UK, Project Harpoon is dedicated to creating the original images and then reposting them with the hashtag #thinnerbeauty on social media sites. (The Facebook and Instagram accounts for Project Harpoon have been taken down, but the Twitter account is still active.)
Several of the photos use plus-size model Tess Holiday’s image without her consent who has spoken out against this campaign. If you recall, she is the world's first plus-sized model to be signed to a modelling agency in the U.S. She also came out with a campaign called #effyourbeautystandards to help raise awareness about women’s positive body image.
According to the Huff Po UK, the model has called for a boycott of Project Harpoon and any other sites like it. "It's abominable that this [Facebook page] is using my image without permission to promote themselves," Holliday told E! News. "Loving yourself is the most powerful message we all need to stand behind."
Rivkie Baum, editor of plus-size magazine SLiNK, told the HuffPost UK Lifestylethat she also finds the trend "absolutely horrendous".
"Women's bodies are continuously dissected by the media, but this takes it to a whole new level and violates their bodies in a whole different way.”

A new campaign is taking fat-shaming to a whole new level. (Project Harpoon image)

Most guys I know like curves on their women. I like a little jiggle when I see a cute gal walk by. Sure beats those bag of antlers supermodels any day.

Fat-shaming? I don't see the problem with shaming fat people into becoming thin. Being fat leads to bad health and sometimes death, and fatties should be shamed and scared into leading a more active and healthy lifestyle in order to lose weight.

The term "fat-shaming" is one of those silly, pointless term invented by some long-haired, ponytailed Lefty called Dick MacDonald-Berger who does nothing worthwile all day but invent silly, pointless terms for everything that offends him and taking part in anti-Brexit/anti-austerity/anti-Islamophobia/anti-heterosexual/anti-meat/anti-Daily Mail/anti-Northerner/anti-fat-shaming (sometimes all rolled into one) march down Kensington High Street.

Stupid is a line rather than a mental condition that can't be cured. To promote that is, well, quite stupid really.

Really?? We are talking waves on the beach kind of jiggle here. 2" of water in the tub will fill the tub when fatty sits down, 3" is an overflow. Get the picture??

Hey, maybe we can stupid-shame you into becoming intelligent. Oh that's right, stupid is forever.

So you don't want fatsos to be shamed into leading a more healthy and active lifestyle to get rid of their fatness and the implications for their health that their fatness entails?

If fat people get ashamed because of people poking fun of then then all U say is: "Good!" They night start doing something about it. So-called "fat-shaming" should be encouraged, not discouraged.

People have to lighten up.
(generally it's called "who gives a flying fuKK what YOU think!)
;)
Fired or jailed for something discriminatory is one thing, but other then that, all this hate speech stuff is really about taking down free thought and speech, or manipulation of a perceived minority.

Having said that: there are many reasons why certain people are out of shape that are not about their choices, they are mental or physical disease states, and picking on the sick is cheap and low.

Uh, yeah. Can you tell the difference between a self-induced fat person and one who has a glandular or other medical condition just by looking at them, "doctor"?

"Chinese women use an app that makes them look like tall, scrawny legged, huge eyed, pointed chin aliens."

The Celine Dion app?

Uh huh. Most guys, eh? Which is why fat girls are all over every fashion magazine, every TV commercial, starring in every movie?

No, most guys clearly don't want fat girls. That doesn't mean they want a bag of bones with no breasts, but they also don't want a girl whose fat oozes out over the top of her jeans either.

I said most guys like curves on their women. I don't think I am wrong. Obesity is a different story.

Women and men can be overweight for a variety of reasons...genetics...medication...etc. I never judge. I tell my daughters God makes everyone different, in all shapes and sizes.

But this topic isn't about women who have nice curves. It's about fat women. Well, fat people. And according to the CDC 70% of Americans are overweight and 38% are obese. And yes, there are a variety of reasons why people become overweight, but in reality, most overweight people are fat because of overeating and a sedentary lifestyle.

I don't think it's a good idea to fat shame them. I'm quite certain when a fat girl on the beach sees this young hotty in a bikini she feels self-conscious enough. On the other hand these campaigns that pretend fat is beautiful, and that overweight people should be proud of themselves and their bodies and not worry about what others think are stupid too. Being fat is never a good thing, nor a healthy thing. And is certainly not attractive.

Men don't buy Vogue, Elle, etc.
