"No human can force any other human to do or think anything."
That's a simple statement I learned a long while ago...from a Canadian (if that matters).
"You need to stand up for yourself."
That's something my father taught me years ago...he's an American.
I think those two things go hand in hand. And are kinda relevent here.
You may think of me as a person first and foremost...great, but philisophically, that doesn't change how I see myself. Whether that's as an American, Norweign, Black, White, Jew, or Catholic.
Do the Iraqi people deserve aid? Yes.
Should the troops give up thier lives for it? I don't think so. I also didn't think they should give up thier lives to liberate Iraq.
Fundamanentally I am not pro-killing-Americans-for-people-who-don't-like-America. Some people in this country see it differently.
Politically, America and Britain have the control over Iraq. They will decide what to do with it. And my guess is that they will not risk "thiers" for "someone else". Especially when there is a lack of feeling of anyone being with "them".
I support the troops, but I oppose the war. If you can sort that out then you are ahead of most every rightwing American.
Be a dove as long as you can, but if you go hawk...then there's no sense in clipping your wings...especially if that would result in greater losses to your side.
The people of Iraq need help. And the US will provide it when they feel it's safe enough for thier troops. And if you think the average troop is being "spoiled' by a Wopper and a slice of pizza maybe you should be shot at a few times and see how "great" a $3.50 meal is as a reward. Eh?
Anyhow...it's not a big deal. Especially considering the other problems in the region. If this was the only problem, well, the world would be a great place. But it isn't. So I don't know about you, but I'm gonna look for more pressing matters.
