I wonder when the notion that a democratic government should be open became passe.

If the CRA is claiming no bias, they should be able to verify no bias. Surely a department full of auditors can grasp that concept. Simply list the charities that have been audited, along with the results of the audit. The Toronto Star has nothing to do with it.

Even no bias can be measured as bias if the observer is biased as well.

What does RC auditing decisions have to do with voting day?

It may give people cause to reconsider their vote if there seems to be political interference in the decision to audit or not audit an organization. At the very least, using CRA as a political tool should be discouraged. I don't understand how anybody that favours democracy would be against that.

Then people can decide for themselves as to claims of political interference and vote accordingly. Give people infomation to make an informed vote.

Already, without any facts but those opinons of these bird watcher freaks, have already convinced yourselves of a consperacy. Any list provided will be viewed in your eyes as tainted (and no doubt there will be one organization which was clearly breaking the law but happens to be a Libtard one) and will cause other Libtards like yourselves to go off half cocked and make broad unfounded accusations. It's a no win even if you ignore the privacy concerns.

Have you been talking to Captain Morgan? Why do you guys make these ridiculous calims. What I sadi was that CRA has stated that there is no political interference in their choice of charities audited, but they are unable to verify this statement. All of a sudden you're off about consipracy theories/

I'm of the general impression that government information should be public available unless there is an overwhelming reason why it should not be. I can't see much harm in providing a list of charities audited--there's not much privacy issue there at all, especially since my taxes subsidize their charity.

Even better, strip all these public policy advocacy centres of their charitbale status. If you're a charity then heal the sick, comfort the affliced, house the homeless and feed the hungry. Think tanks are not, and should not be considered to be, charities.

I've been asking Putz for the name of his imaginery VFD to look up their financials which are available to anyone.

LOL...I'm conservative. I guess the difference between people like you and me is that I want open government. I believe the politicians and the bureaucrats work for the taxpayers and not the other way around. I'm also open-minded. You should try it sometime.

I'll give it to you if and when it becomes relevant to the discussion. At this point it's just a feeble attempt by you to move the goal posts. You aren't fooling too many people.

Why would a CPA have to do it? CRA requirement?

Do you understand that there is a difference between having your your books audited yearly by an accountant and being audited by CRA? Seriously, if you don't realize there is a difference, perhaps you should find a more appropriate thread to post in.

ANyone that believes in democracy should applaud the auditing of certain groups to ensure that they are following the rules. Especially the ones that get a large amount of their funding from US foundations.

Agreed. Some of us just believe it should be apolitical and even handed
