I see that England is favoured. Thought that Germany beating France and Portugal would have meant something but apparently they are saying they do not match up well against the quick play of England. I guess that is why they play the games.

At this stage they are all huge wins and devastating losses.

Germany didn't beat France. They lost. And they drew against Hungary.

Czech Republic shock Netherlands to reach Quarter Finals

Last 16

Netherlands 0-2 Czech Republic

Budapest

The 1996 losing finalists are in the Quarter Finals again

The Czech Republic pulled off the shock of the European Championship so far by defeating the Netherlands and booking their place in the last eight after defender Matthijs de Ligt was sent off.

Tomas Holes nodded in the opener 13 minutes after De Ligt saw red for handball following a VAR review, denying Patrik Schick a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Holes then turned provider for Schick as the Czechs doubled their lead on 80 minutes.

The Netherlands, down to 10 men for over half an hour, had a huge chance earlier on as Donyell Malen raced through one-on-one with goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik.

But the Czech Republic, ranked 40th in the world, 24 places behind the Dutch, went on to silence those in orange at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, setting up a quarter-final with Denmark on Saturday, 3 July.

World's No1 ranked side knock out the holders to stay on course for first major title

Last 16

Belgium 1-0 Portugal
T Hazard 42

Seville

A moment of class from Thorgan Hazard proved enough to knock out holders Portugal as Belgium continued their pursuit of a first major title by reaching the quarter-finals of Euro 2020.

The Borussia Dortmund winger's swerving drive from 25 yards arrived late in a cagey first-half and carried Roberto Martinez's side into a mouth-watering meeting with Italy on Friday.

Portugal - who again only introduced Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes from the bench - will look back on key Diogo Jota chances, a Ruben Dias header that was saved and a late Raphael Guerreiro drive that struck the post.

Kevin De Bruyne's fitness may dominate headlines in the build-up to the Italy showdown in Munich after he limped off moments after half-time, and Belgium also lost Eden Hazard to a complaint late on.

The world's highest-ranked side may have key holes to fill but again they have showed they possess the grit to complement their undoubted quality.

England end 55-year wait for knockout win over Germany

Last 16

England 2-0 Germany
Sterling 75
Kane 86

London

England struck twice late on to end a 55-year wait for a knockout tie victory over Germany amid scenes of huge tension and elation at Wembley to reach the Euro 2020 quarter-finals.

Gareth Southgate's side battled hard to earn the statement victory that has so often eluded England, and it was their talisman of this tournament, Raheem Sterling, who made the decisive breakthrough.

Sterling, who scored the winners against Croatia and the Czech Republic in the group stage, steered in Luke Shaw's cross after 75 minutes to send England's fans, with more than 40,000 inside Wembley, into wild celebrations.

The win was secured with another moment of significance four minutes from time when captain Harry Kane, who had once again struggled to influence the game, headed in from substitute Jack Grealish's perfect delivery for his first goal of Euro 2020.

England were again thankful for the brilliance of Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who has yet to concede a goal in the tournament and saved crucially from Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in each half, while Thomas Muller missed a glorious chance to equalise before Kane struck.

England now face either Sweden or Ukraine in the quarter-finals in Rome on Saturday.

It's finished 1-1 between Sweden and Ukraine in the other Last 16 tie, so it's now gone to 30 minutes extra time and then a penalty shootout if it's still tied.

Seems like neither side wants to play England in the Quarter Finals.
