England and Scotland, the two oldest international teams in the world, have played each other more times than any other international sides have played each other - 115 times - yet this was the first ever goalless draw between them at Wembley.

A draw between England and Czech Republic on Tuesday would see both those teams through to the Last 16.

Antoine Griezmann rescued a point for France and denied Hungary one of the big European Championship shocks in front of a raucous 60,000 crowd in Budapest.

Attila Fiola fired Hungary into the lead just before the break as he held off the French defence to slot home after a one-two with Roland Sallai.

The goal was met by one of the loudest celebrations football has heard since March 2020 - or even before then - as the Puskas Arena went wild.

Fiola banged a pitchside reporter's table and knocked items off before he and his team-mates embraced some of the fans in the front row.

World champions France, tipped by many as the tournament favourites, had dominated the first half, with Kylian Mbappe in lively form again, before that goal.

Les Bleus were not impressive, although they did come back in the second half.

First, substitute Ousmane Dembele hit the post - and then his Barcelona team-mate Griezmann equalised.

Mbappe ran onto Hugo Lloris' huge kick down the field before laying it off - with the aid of a slight deflection - for Griezmann to slot home from eight yards.

The atmosphere was electric, but neither side could find a winner.

There was almost late drama when Presnel Kimpembe appeared to be fouled in the box by Sallai - but France were not given a penalty - and Raphael Varane headed wide with the last touch.

France, on four points, have probably done enough to reach the last 16 from Group F - although it is not guaranteed yet - and Hungary have kept their qualification hopes alive.

Germany come from behind to win heavyweight thriller

Germany got off the mark in style at Euro 2020 as they tore Portugal apart with an impressive attacking performance in Munich to throw Group F wide open.

Germany's win means both these sides now sit on three points, one behind group leaders France, heading into a pivotal final round of fixtures on Wednesday.

Atalanta wing-back Robin Gosens was the architect with a goal and an assist, earning an ovation from the Allianz Arena crowd as he was replaced just after the hour mark.

Cristiano Ronaldo had put the visitors ahead, continuing his record-breaking campaign with his third goal of the tournament and 12th European Championship strike of all time.

But two own goals in the space of five first-half minutes flipped an entertaining encounter in Germany's favour, as first Ruben Dias and then Raphael Guerreiro turned into their own net.

The influential Gosens laid on a third immediately after the break with an inviting ball that allowed Kai Havertz to tap in from close range, before heading in Germany's fourth himself.

Diogo Jota poked in from Ronaldo's cutback but the defending champions were unable to mount a comeback.

Germany host Hungary, who earlier on Saturday held France to a draw, while Portugal face the world champions in the final game with all four nations still able to progress.

Wales lose to Italy but both teams qualify for the Last 16

Wales demonstrated great resolve in defeat against Italy as they clung on with 10 men for a result which was enough to secure their place in the second round of Euro 2020.

Their automatic qualification was under threat with Switzerland beating Turkey 3-1 in Group A's other fixture, but Wales withstood relentless Italian pressure to scrape through in second place on goal difference.

Italy had already qualified for the last 16 and, despite making eight changes to their team, they were still utterly dominant, Matteo Pessina's goal giving them a 1-0 half-time lead which scarcely reflected their superiority.

Wales were forced to play the final half an hour a man down after Ethan Ampadu was sent off for a lunge on Federico Bernardeschi, intensifying the Italian onslaught.

And although Italy's win was never in doubt - this was their 30th consecutive match without defeat, equalling their national record - Wales dug deep to ensure the margin of victory was not too damaging.

Finishing third may well have been enough for Wales to progress as one of the tournament's four best third-placed teams, but this result ensured they kept their destiny in their own hands.

Robert Page and his players can now look forward to a second-round match against Group B's runners-up in Amsterdam next Saturday.

As for Italy, an 11th consecutive win will see them face Group C's second-placed team at Wembley on the same day.

Switzerland victory keeps their hopes alive as Turkey are knocked out

Switzerland gave themselves a superb chance of qualifying for the last 16 of Euro 2020 as one of the best third-placed sides with a superb victory that sends Turkey home without a point to their name.

Needing a win in Baku to stand any chance of progression, the Swiss produced by far their best display of the tournament - one that could and probably should have yielded a bigger and more rewarding win.

Xherdan Shaqiri and Haris Seferovic were the goalscoring heroes, silencing those who had questioned their places in the side with a collection of fine goals, all of them assisted by Steven Zuber.

The first of Shaqiri's brace - to make it 2-0 in the first half - was especially good, the Liverpool man curling in from the edge of the box.

Equally as important was Yann Sommer in the Swiss goal, who produced a string of good saves to keep a much-improved Turkey at bay, especially in the first half.

At the other end, Ugurcan Cakir was just as impressive, saving numerous times to frustrate a Swiss side who knew that a Wales loss in Italy and a five-goal swing would give them second in the group.

Turkey were able to score their first goal of the tournament and a fine one it was too, Irfan Can Kahveci smashing in a long-range drive to briefly narrow the score to 2-1.

But having been many people's ill-judged dark horses for the tournament, they exit with a humbling zero points and a goal difference of minus seven.

Switzerland must now wait for the group games to be completed to see if their efforts will be enough to send them through.

Breaking News

England have qualified for the Last 16 before they even play Czech Republic tomorrow after results in today's games went their way, meaning they will at least finish as one of the four best third placed teams, but could still win the group.

Czech Republic 0-1 England

England finish top of the group thanks to Raheem Sterling's 12th minute goal. It is the first time since the 1982 World Cup that England have conceded no goals in the Group Stage of a major tournament.

Czech Republic started the day as group leaders, but ended up finishing third but still qualify as one of the four best third placed teams.

Croatia 3-1 Scotland

Both teams went into the match needing a win to qualify for the Last 16. The victory went to Croatia, leaving them finishing second in the group. Scotland are out.

Throughout most of this match, Germany were losing and heading out of the tournament at the Group Stage, but an 84th minute equaliser saw them scrape through with Hungary out.

For large periods of the match Portugal were going to face England at Wembley in the Last 16 but, due to Germany's late equaliser against Hungary, Portugal will instead play Belgium.

Wales out after being thrashed by superb Denmark

Wales were eliminated in the second round of Euro 2020 as they were thrashed by Denmark, whose inspiring journey at the tournament continues to the quarter-finals.

Backed by a fervent and almost exclusively Danish crowd, the Danes led midway through the first half as Kasper Dolberg curled in an excellent strike from the edge of the penalty area.

Dolberg struck again early in the second half as he seized on a defensive error from Wales substitute Neco Williams to smash in from close range.

That goal deflated Wales, who never looked like clawing their way back into the game as Joakim Maehle added a late third for the jubilant Danes.

Wales substitute Harry Wilson was then shown a straight red card for a foul on Maehle before Martin Braithwaite struck a fourth goal in added time as Wales' exhausting campaign ended miserably.

Wales had performed well to get out of a difficult Group A which also featured Italy, Switzerland and Turkey, but this impressive Danish side proved a challenge too far for Robert Page's men.

Denmark had already provided the uplifting story of Euro 2020, showing admirable resolve to reach this stage having been galvanised by midfielder Christian Eriksen's recovery from a cardiac arrest.

The next stop on their fairy-tale voyage will be Baku for a quarter-final against the Netherlands or the Czech Republic next Saturday.

As for Wales, they will return home exhausted but, in time, proud of their efforts in reaching the knockout stages again in only their third appearance at a major tournament.

Italy needed extra time to see off battling Austria at Wembley and set up a Euro 2020 quarter-final against Belgium or Portugal.

Austria marked their first appearance in the knockout stage of the European Championship with a tireless performance to give their much-fancied opponents a scare.

Marko Arnautovic had a headed goal disallowed after a VAR check for offside in normal time when the game was goalless before goals from substitutes Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina sent Italy through.

Chiesa showed terrific technique to bring the ball down and beat Daniel Bachmann from an angle while Pessina, who scored in the group game against Wales, doubled the score from close range.

Austria pulled a goal back through Sasa Kalajdzic's brave header, the first goal Italy have conceded in 12 games, but the Azzurri's 31st match without defeat - a new national record - sees them march on.

Italy had the best of the first-half chances as Nicolo Barella was denied by Austria's Watford keeper before Ciro Immobile struck the post from 25 yards.

Austria produced a terrific defensive display to frustrate the four-time world champions, while creating opportunities of their own.

Arnautovic put one chance over the bar and, with another, fired straight at the keeper, while David Alaba went close from a free-kick before the disallowed goal.

Italy will meet the winners of Sunday's last-16 game between Belgium, the top-ranked side in the world, and holders Portugal in the quarter-finals in Munich on 2 July.

Tough for Germany at Wembley. They've been rubbish.

I see that England is favoured. Thought that Germany beating France and Portugal would have meant something but apparently they are saying they do not match up well against the quick play of England. I guess that is why they play the games.

At this stage they are all huge wins and devastating losses.
