some disasters couldnt help but wipe us ALL out. You're correct in that there have been some big events in the past (ice ages, impacts and so on) and they've made a lot of life extinct (this is previous to human existance) and there's always been a remnant, but an asteroid sized impact couldnt help but wipe almost everything out, even a large meteorite would be enough, and a comet might well destroy 99% of all life, right down to the sulfur-eating bacteria on the sea bed. As for the sun using up its nuclear fuel, something else will happen first, i'm sure.
My understandings about the part of God in this whole scenario is this: that as long as mankind maintains a healthy respect for God, God will delay or deter any natural pending disasters.
I believe that the moral decay of humanity as a whole brings on the natural disasters without God's intervention.
Just as seen over and over in the history of mankind.
