I don't think stereotyping was behind this comment. Muslims are not supposed to drink alcohol.... " Sigh"... I am sure your Muslim friend is a good man, with a wonderful family. Alas Muslims are not supposed to drink beer.

And Hindus are not supposed to eat beef, Jews are not supposed to eat non kosher food, so what is your point? These are religious directives, which some people obey, others don’t. I have a Hindu friend who just loves hamburgers.

Indeed, that is what I mean by stereotypes. Just because Islam forbids alcohol, doesn’t mean that all the Muslims abstain from alcohol {same as just because Islam regards women as sub human doesn’t mean that all Muslim men keep their wives in chains). In fact, we have a doctor friend who worked in Saudi Arabia for a few years. He tells me that in Saudi Arabia, they have wards in hospitals devoted exclusively for alcoholics.

If alcohol is forbidden in Islam, where do the alcoholics come from? Different people are religious to different extent, some not at all, and still they call themselves Muslims, Christians or whatever.

That makes me very happy Mrj; it comes to show that I,m not always correct .But as I have stated at the end of my post ( the part you did not print) the post is only my point of view .By the way Mrj ,please tell me more about the happiness and prosperity you have acquired with the help of your emotions .(lottto 649)?.

I must apologize, I will try to be more thorough in the future with my responses...

My emotions have helped me obtain, and keep a beautiful loving wife. Create three beautiful children. (Yes they helped with that too)... ;-)

Also they help me to maintain a great relationship with my staff...

Emotions like anything can be controlled, and directed...

P.S. >>> I still play the lotto. Winning would be a different emotion in it's self. I'll let you know if I ever get to feel it, lol.

My point could not be more simple... All I said was Muslims are not supposed to consume alcohol, as one poster stated... This is NOT a stereotype, as much as it is a fact...

Addiction is a different topic.

Dexter Sinister,
Yes, I'm intelligent, and I do recognize stereotypes.
.......and I am very humble &*%$@.
Let's go into this statement very slowly Dexter, and find out. To find out is not to come to a conclusion. I don't know if you see the difference. The moment you come to a conclusion as to what intelligence is, you cease to be intelligent. That is what most of the older people have done: they have come to conclusions. Therefore they have ceased to be intelligent, an intelligent mind is one which is constantly learning, never concluding.
Most people are satisfied with a definition of what intelligence is. Either they say, "That is a good explanation", or they prefer their own explanation; and a mind that is satisfied with an explanation is very superficial, therefore it is not intelligent.
You can see that an intelligent mind is a mind which is not satisfied with explanations, with conclusions; nor is it a mind that believes, because belief is again another form of conclusion. An intelligent mind is an inquiring mind, a mind that is watching, learning, studying , it has no fear to rebel, to go against the whole social structure in order to find out what is the truth of anything and everything .
If you could read all the books in the world it would not give you intelligence. Intelligence is something very subtle; it has no anchorage. it comes into being only when you understand the total process of the mind - not the mind according to some philosopher or teacher, but your own mind, Dexter. So intelligence comes into being with the understanding of yourself; and you can understand yourself only in relation to the world of people, things and ideas. Intelligence is not something that you can acquire, like learning; it arises with great revolt, that is, when there is no fear - which means, really, when there is a sense of love. For when there is no fear, there is love.
To ask what is intelligence is like asking what is life. Life is study, play, sex, work, quarrel, envy, ambition, love, beauty, truth - life is everything .

Whether you are guided by your emotions or guided by your intellect, it leads to despair because it leads nowhere. But you realize that love is not pleasure, love is not desire. What is pleasure ? When you look at something or when you have a feeling, to think about that feeling, to dwell constantly upon that feeling gives you pleasure, and that pleasure you want and you repeat that pleasure over and over again. When a man is very ambitious or a little ambitious, that gives him pleasure. When a man is seeking power, position, prestige in the name of the country, in the name of an idea, and all the rest of it, that gives him pleasure. He has no love at all, and therefore he creates mischief in the world. He brings about war within and without. So one has to realize that emotions, sentiment, enthusiasm, the feeling of being good, and all that have nothing whatsoever to do with real affection, compassion, Love .But obviously that 's only a point of view.
Love isn't pleasure nor desire but it can instill those traits. And not all emotion or thought leads to despair.

Dexter Sinister ,
Not to mention silly, as in, "The moment you come to a conclusion as to what intelligence is, you cease to be intelligent."
HHAAA, just knew that you're going respond to this statement .

_I have stated that ..."the moment you come to a conclusion as to what intelligence is, you cease to be intelligent",and I have also given a reason and facts why you stop being intelligent , Dexter .
So, in your infinity wisdom ,please explain why is this statement "silly"?
