We have Prius Prime ordered. Currently about 80%of my wife's driving can be done on the battery and the gas engine will cover the rest. But, we also have two trucks, one gas and one diesel. So when we want to go someplace we don't have to spend hours waiting for a charge.
I kinda think we'll get used to planning around charging time and availability. Same way back in the day we got used to planning for the thin-on-the-ground gas stations in the rural/desert parts of our respective countries.

Difference being you can pack a couple of cans of gas with you. So far one can't pack extra electrons unless you pull a trailer with a battery pack. Then you still have the wait time for charging. They have been trying electric vehicles for over 100 years now and still have the same problems to overcome.

It got lost. I think hydrogen will be the fuel of the future for cars, maybe not for heavy trucks.
Could be. Or fuel cells (which is an application of hydrogen). We'd have to work out problems about how hard it is to store, and how incredibly explosive it is.

When Honda came out with its fuel-cell vehicle, I was envisioning a system that could be overlaid on the current gas stations, based on the propane tank model. Drop off your empty one, pick up a full one. Made sense to me.

Doesn't seem to have caught on.

That was also proposed for electric cars. Run up on the hoist and change batteries. 15 minutes tops. The guy that hallucinated that one never thought about how many thousands of different batteries each service station would have to inventory, or the amount of power required to charge multiple batteries.
Both propane and electric forklifts work on that model.

Mandatory standardization is pretty common in the automotive industry. But the shakedown period is painful. Not so bad when it's electrical connections for consumer products, but with something as expensive as a car. . .

And it seems to happen every time. Companies X, Y, and Z will each design something differently to try to force customer "loyalty." Eventually they converge, when they figure out for the 1000th time that if you make it all interoperable, everybody profits. But everybody insists on learning that lesson the hard way.

Hasn't worked with the most basic of automotive products yet. Can't get a battery to fit two vehicles from the same manufacturer sometimes. Light bulbs are another one. Oil and filters are the worst.
FIlters are the first thing I am going to fix when I become Emperor. There will be three sizes. 1 for 4 cyl. , 1 for 6 cyl, and one fore 8 cyl. No more are required until you get to industrial.

I do a lot of work with satellite companies. They cooperate very well, cuz when you spend a couple of billion to design, build, and launch a satellite, you have a powerful incentive to make damn sure it won't interfere with/be interfered with by other satellite systems.

Ain't like you can send up an electrician to fix it.

You go! 100% support on that.

Of course, I'm forced to point out there'll be some whiner in BC, let's call him "slavetax" who'll piss and moan about it. . . ;)

I think one should either shut up or do something more effective than sharing one's OUTRAGE with a group the large majority of whom are already similarly OUTRAGED, and the small minority of whom one will not sway.
Ok. Then can you explain to me the purpose of this board? It seems to me this is exactly what this board is for. And personally I am doing something. I am putting my X by a candidate that is not a Liberal when we are allowed to do so. And if you don't want to read about it, one could just not read this thread. Or you can continue trolling if it makes you happy.

Yeah, I can. Taxslave and I had a nice conversation above. We swapped info and ideas, and it wasn't one long we-hate-True Dope-fest.

We all get that you hate True Dope.

Which candidate do you like, of the ones with a decent shot at PM? THAT would be interesting. So far (and as usual, not having, claiming, or wanting any say in how Canada runs its government or politics) I'm liking Poilievre. He seems moderate, smart, and focussed on making government run better.

And have you accomplished anything? The mandate remains the same. No improvements have been made.

As to your discussion, you guys both made good points (which I read after i posted -- page break I guess). I have stated that I have issues with the pure electric car model and have stated those issue some of which you guys rehashed. I also think that a pure electric car model will break the electrical grid. I also don't think electric cars are particularly green if you factor in manufacturing. I also have mentioned logistical issues for those of us living in apartment buildings and who regularly travel long distances.

Yes I dislike TrueDope and the Liberals. But I will remind you that until you teed off on me 100% of my contribution to this thread was reminding you that 2035 was the date which all cars were mandated to be electric in Canada.

As for the Conservative leader, I also find my self liking PP although I am not convinced he will take Ontario which he must if he wants to be PM. Certainly in Toronto, the Liberal Love is strong. A more moderate Conservative leader would do better. I don't think Charest has what it takes to win. He is a nice safe name from the past but he has looked befuddled by other Conservative Canadidates in debates and they are all the same party. So I don't think he would win. My favourite going in was Leslyn Lewis. But it does not appear she has any momentum. I still have some concerns with PP but far less than the current Liberal leader. He would likely be a viable alternative to the Liberals when I choose who to cast my vote for in 2025.

So far I am leaning towards none of the above for leader. Mostly because all of them come from back east and history has shown us that leaders from Ontariowe or Quebec are terrified of the west getting ahead. Still have about 2 months to decide.

For which I apologize. Wrong of me to do that. I'll try to remember this and do it better.
