The problem with your analogy is that you're equating a football game/parade with a funeral. They're not the same thing. If I'm on my way to work and I'm running late... I stop for a funeral procession even if it's someone I don't know and might not even like. It matters not to me that I may be late for work... Or that I've been late for work so many times that I run the risk of being fired for being late this one last time.

I would stop for a parade as well, but not for the same reasons. A parade would force me to stop. The roads would be barricaded and I would be arrested for driving through it and placing people's lives in danger. It's just not the same thing.

A funeral procession and a parade cannot be viewed as being the same thing. Different etiquette applies. Who gives a rat's ass about a parade?

America is an empire not unlike any other throughout history. The United States has had the good fortune of being the world's sole economic powerhouse for much of the 20th century. The development of countries like China and India pose a serious threat to America's role as economic king, as does the European Union. No one doubts or disputes this.

Where America is in real danger, is in losing their military edge. Why do you suppose that the U.S. is so opposed to nuclear proliferation? It's probably in large part due to the fact that the countries seeking nuclear weapons have not traditionally been on good terms with the good ol' Americans.

The U.S. will lose economic superiority over the long term. That is not a possibility that can or will be averted. It's is an inevitable probability. The U.S. is also going to lose its military edge as other nations become capable of playing on America's turf in the areas of world diplomacy. The U.S. will not fall as a nation. No one has said that. I certainly haven't said that. The U.S. just won't have the same influence as it holds presently. And if you look at developments over the last few decades, you'll see that it's already happening.

Britain was once a vast empire. They were the hub of economic activity throughout the world. They were the world's 'superpower'. Did they die? No! They were just forced to settle for a less significant role in the world. The U.S. will ultimately meet the same fate.
