Holy hyperbole Batman. Remember, the US doesn't need anything from Canada according to the Trumpty Dumpster. Nobody is gonna die. They'll just have higher utility bills until Mr. Art of the Deal makes the US truly energy independent. Besides, why the hell should Ontario rate-payers subsidize American use of our hydro?Doug Ford was such a tough guy, threatening to shut off the power to the USA.. people could die, freeze to death.

Buy an oil company and sell it where ever you want .All this, and...
If the Tangerine Terrorist wants to renegotiate deals, he can do that for the power going to the US, and start paying an actual market price for it. Same for oil.
Hydro exports are sold at market rates. There's no discount for the US.All this, and...

No, what I mean is Ontario and Quebec pay more for hydro imported from the US than the US pays for hydro imported from Ontario and Quebec.Did not know this; thank you for informing.
So if Ontario residents are subsidizing American use of hydro, wouldn't that still make the US getting rates lower than market or are they just sidestepping it all together?
No, what I mean is Ontario and Quebec pay more for hydro imported from the US than the US pays for hydro imported from Ontario and Quebec.
Between 2019-2023 Quebec paid an average of $78.49/MWh for imported US hydro while the US paid an average of $47.81/MWh for Quebec hydro.
Between 2019-2024 Ontario paid an average of $57.51/MWh for hydro imported from the US while the US paid an average of $41.77/MWh for Ontario hydro.
Ontario generally exports anywhere from 2-4 times as much hydro per year as they import from the US.
The US gets lots of stuff from Canada it "doesn't need" that it needs. Medical isotopes, oil, hydro, uranium, agricultural products, never mind Canada having some of the largest known deposits of REEs. And of course the US can get all those from other countries and do, but those supplies will never be as secure as the supplies from Canada, unless the friggin' head idiots of Canada and the US screw it up.Sorry, wasn't too clear 'bout what I was asking. But this is the info I thought it was. The US pays less for hydro.
From the numbers you gave, least to me, it seems that the US is getting a damn sweet deal, whether it's being sold cheaper hydro from Ontario and Quebec, or Canadians are paying more to keep US rates low.
Which isn't right/fair/whatever. Considering things now, I still think it's past time to 'renegotiate' those rates to either make them even, or for any imported hydro to be as low in rates.
It certainly seems that the US is getting a 'sweet deal' on hydro, regardless, and isn't "not needing" it.
