here is an interesting analogy.

if a person knew that there was a possibility of coming across a bull, would that person wear red, knowing that there was an increased probability of being mowed down by a bull? it doesn't mean that person deserved to be mowed down by a bull if the person chose to wear red.

Two guys are talking
Why do bulls charge when they see red?
No bulls do not charge when they see red, only cows do!
But why do they charge anyway?
Would you like it if someone thought you were a cow?

A little decency is kinda required... why?

And why should I not follow fashion trends? That's pretty much impossible, and frankly, right now the trend in jeans is working so in my favour I'd be an idiot not to put on those jeans that make my curves pop in all the right places. And how does that pertain to rape anyway?
Show us your tits. It's legal in ON.

My opinion is that women are never, in any way shape or form, responsible for rapes perpetrated against them. No more so than a murder victim is responsible for being murdered, or a victim of theft is responsible for being deprived of his/her goods. Responsibility for the crime rests on the criminal, 100%.

Having said that, if we were to advise members of the public to lock their doors at night to decrease the chances they will be a victim of a robbery, we are not saying "If you don't, then it's all your fault". However, whenever some suggests a woman not draw undue attention to lessen chance of assault, they get slammed. The reason why, in my opinion, is the term "****". It's a derogatory term, for most people, and alludes to a lessor status. So if a woman were to dress as a "****" and she was to be raped, well she's further maligned by the term **** being applied.

The whole thing is wrought with faulty reasoning as far as I'm concerned. To imply that a woman's manner of dress will cause her to be raped would have to mean that any man can be a potential rapist. And that's complete B.S. So if not any man can be a potential rapist then it is the happenstance of coming across a man who is a rapist, or has the potential to become one, that places the woman in danger in the first place. Manner of dress is completely incidental.

I think people are taking these comments the wrong way. The girl is not a great intellect, thus I can see where she might have chosen some poor words to make the point.

Locking my house if I live in a bad neighbourhood is a good idea to try and prevent burglaries: it does not excuse the criminal from his/her actions if one day, I forget to do so and they rob me. Its the old "ounce of prevention" thing.

I don't believe dressing provocatively is wrong in any way but at the same time, there are places I avoided being alone at certain times when I lived in both Edmonton and Calgary... and I am not a woman, thus a less likely target for miscreants who want to take advantage of those weaker than themselves.

Okay, that's TWO instances of this thread, of you trying to make people stop disagreeing with you, but throwing yourself a pity party. Grow up or get off the damn internet.

If I may offer...

Hunting season in Southern Ontario is quickly approaching.

It would be an excellent idea to avoid the wearing of brown, grey or white, clothing while walking the woodlots, forests and green spaces where hunting takes place, between Oct 1st and Dec 31st. The use of an orange safety vest, is highly recommended.

This is in no way meant to put the onus on the average hiker, or dog walker. But accidents do happen. It is ultimately the hunters responsibility to ensure the he knows exactly what he's shooting at. And in the case of an accidental shooting of a person, the hunter will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

It is our mission to make forest safety a high priority, while we all enjoy the use of Southern Ontario's many forests and green spaces.

Sincerely yours,

Southern Ontario's many sportsmen and women.

At least in the US you can keep a gun in your purse and choose not to be a victim. Here, and if it were me, i would carry bear spray (no not Brut, Bear;-)) just in case i'm heading for the "outskirts" of town;-)
Ladies have no way of knowing if the guy they encounter has been released for the umpteenth time or even once for violent sexual assault, so perhaps they should gang up on self serving shrinks and ridiculously liberal judges.

I get where you're coming from but....

Rape doesn't happen by accident. Just saying.
