My opinion is that women are never, in any way shape or form, responsible for rapes perpetrated against them. No more so than a murder victim is responsible for being murdered, or a victim of theft is responsible for being deprived of his/her goods. Responsibility for the crime rests on the criminal, 100%.
Having said that, if we were to advise members of the public to lock their doors at night to decrease the chances they will be a victim of a robbery, we are not saying "If you don't, then it's all your fault". However, whenever some suggests a woman not draw undue attention to lessen chance of assault, they get slammed. The reason why, in my opinion, is the term "****". It's a derogatory term, for most people, and alludes to a lessor status. So if a woman were to dress as a "****" and she was to be raped, well she's further maligned by the term **** being applied.
The whole thing is wrought with faulty reasoning as far as I'm concerned. To imply that a woman's manner of dress will cause her to be raped would have to mean that any man can be a potential rapist. And that's complete B.S. So if not any man can be a potential rapist then it is the happenstance of coming across a man who is a rapist, or has the potential to become one, that places the woman in danger in the first place. Manner of dress is completely incidental.
