“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” the tech billionaire posted on X.
“Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

Liberated from the constraints of his quasi-governmental job, Musk has tossed a powder keg into all these delicate deliberations to bring the disparate Republican factions into some kind of agreement – and it is not the first time. His criticism sank a government spending bill last year, creating problems it took months for Republicans to solve.

Trump has said he wants the legislation on his desk to sign by the Fourth of July congressional recess. That could prove to be a tall task, but it is one that has a pressing deadline behind it.

His "big, beautiful bill" contains a $4tn increase in the US debt-limit borrowing authority. Treasury department officials say that if that limit is not increased by sometime in August, the nation would face the unprecedented prospect of defaulting on its national debt.

Musk's noisy opposition has rested, in part, on his warning that the growing US debt is becoming unsustainable. But if his criticism derails the current efforts to pass the bill in Congress, he could speed up that day of financial reckoning.
In the House, all but three Republican members backed the bill, which passed by a single vote over unified Democratic opposition.

If Musk turns on the majority of Republicans - after spending hundreds of millions to support their campaigns last year - it could cause headaches for incumbents worried about facing challenges in party primaries and represent a devastating blow to Republican hopes of retaining control of Congress for the second half of Trump's second term.

Responding to a question about Musk’s posts during a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the White House, Trump said he was “surprised” and “disappointed” by Musk’s attacks.

“Elon and I had a great relationship,” Trump told reporters. “I don’t know if we will anymore.” He later said he was “very disappointed in Elon” and that “I've helped Elon a lot.”

Somebody helped somebody a lot anyway.

“Elon and I had a great relationship,” Trump told reporters. “I don’t know if we will anymore.” He later said he was “very disappointed in Elon” and that “I've helped Elon a lot.”

Somebody helped somebody a lot anyway.
Musk publicly endorsed Trump’s presidency in a tweet less than an hour after the failed assassination attempt on the president’s life. Their relationship began with mutual respect and compliments.

Musk praised Trump’s “instinctual courage” in jumping up quickly after being grazed by a bullet and yelling “fight, fight,” and Trump told rally attendees in Grand Rapids, Michigan: “We have to make life good for our smart people and (Elon’s) as smart as you get.”

Musk engineered America PAC, a $1 million dollar daily giveaway aimed at getting voters in swing states to support Trump. In all, Musk donated about $280 million USD to Trumps 2024 Presidential campaign. After the election, Musk was put in charge of managing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk visited the White House, often with some of his eleventeen his children. There were even sleepovers!

Alas, it now appears the honeymoon is over. And it just might be the most public break-up in history.
“Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore.” He then went on to suggest that Musk missed being in the White House, causing him to have “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

Musk kept belting out attacks. “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate. Such ingratitude,” he posted in response to an account that suggested the same.

When one account posted on X, “President vs Elon. Who wins? My money’s on Elon. Trump should be impeached and JD Vance should replace him.” Musk retweeted the comment with the word, “Yes.”

Expressing his distaste for Trump’s tariffs, Musk tweeted that they would “cause a recession in the second half of this year.”😳

Musk scorched whatever Earth was left between them, dropping the equivalent of a relationship Hiroshima, attempting to tie Trump to sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein: “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”🤔

And to let everyone know there’d be more, he followed up with: “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”🤐

It's a kabuki show.
It’s some kinda show. So, if Trump drops subsidies for EV’s, and foreign EV’s face high tariffs….what North American (let’s not kid, American & not North American) EV manufacturers are gonna survive? Would that be probably just Tesla? Is Trump doing Musk a solid by yoinking out EV subsidies? A parting gift?
