Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was criticized online for posting a picture of himself purchasing doughnuts from a Winnipeg-based shop. (Twitter)
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau just can’t seem to win … even when it comes to doughnuts.
On Monday, Trudeau made an impromptu visit to Oh Doughnuts bakery in Winnipeg to order and pick up seven boxes of the tasty treats to help fuel politicians during a full day of meetings.
Trudeau was in Winnipeg as part of a three-day Liberal Cabinet Retreat which ended Tuesday.
“Picked up some of Winnipeg’s best to keep us going through another full day of Cabinet meetings,” the prime minister tweeted. “Thanks for the fuel, @OhDoughnuts. #shoplocal
Of course, that didn’t stop trolls from criticizing Trudeau for buying the gourmet sweet treats.

“Donuts brought to you by the Canadian Taxpayers,” one tweeted.
“Hope you paid for those out of your TRUST FUND. Our pockets are empty thanks to you,” another criticized.
Others wondered why Trudeau didn’t purchase doughnuts from another Canadian institution, Tim Hortons.
“I guess Tim’s isn’t good enough at $10 a dozen. Nothing says I am middle class than $47 (for) a dozen donuts. Just another selfie moment,” said a Tim Hortons fan.
“At $47 a dozen. I guess when you have unlimited taxpayer credit card, paying outrageous money for donuts is ok. Tim Hortons too low class for you,” wrote another.
Oh Doughnuts has been selling specialty doughnuts since it opened in 2014. The company offers a variety of donuts, with prices ranging from $35 to $47 for a dozen depending on the style of the baked good.
The bakery came to the prime minister’s defence with a lengthy thread on Twitter. Oh Doughnuts pointed out to “those folks complaining” that Trudeau paid too much for the doughnuts, that Tim Hortons isn’t Canadian owned, Tim’s owners have taken away breaks and benefits from staff, that the company doesn’t make its products fresh and it does not use local or organic ingredients to name a few examples.
Oh Doughnuts stated it is a locally-owned business with more than 30 staff who have benefits and breaks and aren’t paid minimum wage, and its products are freshly made daily.
“Our pricing reflects our respect for our employees, the environment and our commitment to quality, local goods. We are a small biz that really appreciated the sale on a cold Jan Mon morn,” Oh Doughnuts said in a tweet.

Tim Horton's donuts suck and they are no longer Canadian anyway. Whereas Oh Doughnuts appears to be not only Canadian but a local business in Winnipeg that makes fresh donuts, unlike Timmy's.

I'd rather see anyone support local Canadian owned businesses over corporate franchises any day, even if those corporations are also Canadian.

I can't stand Groper and his bull crap but this really is a non-issue.

Sign this petition:::

We delivered the first 80,000 signatures of our petition to the prime minister demanding that taxpayers not be forced to pay the bills for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

But a strange thing has happened (aside from media from all over the world reporting on our petition): people keep signing.

In fact, we’re now getting close to 100,000 signatures.

Can you help us get to 100,000, by sharing this petition far and wide? You can send it by email or share it on social media – anything that helps get it out there:

Here’s another strange thing: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau still hasn’t said whether taxpayers will be on the hook.

So maybe it’s time to remind him how many people don’t think taxpayers should be paying.

Can you take two minutes to send him an email at Justin.Trudeau@parl.gc.ca and tell him to say NO to taxpayer subsidies for Meghan and Harry.
