I never had parents, where does that leave me? Where did I get my beliefs from?

An orphan eh?

I hate orphans...:angryfire:

I'll tell you: Knowledge of god is a priori knowledge.

If this were true, know one would need to have been told about god, and we would be born knowing that he is our creator...that's obviously not the case, so your assertion is ridiculous.

And unlike how religion would have us believe, the way to god isn't a path; its a door.

Kind of like how marijuana is a gateway drug?

I'd also like to point out, that this post is #666 for me! Right here in the "Does god exist?" thread! Sorry Jesus!!!;-)

My 666 post was something pretty profound as well...:angryfire:

But that's the point...if there were an absolute moral standard, the perpetrators of that act of genocide would have known it was far to wrong to be justified, and it would never have happened...

The moral code is broken all the time! Notice how we make excuses for wrong actions? If morality really is relative we wouldn't have the need to make such excuses for breaking the moral law.

If there were an absolute moral standard, and it still took place, it would not be viewed as a pivotal moment of national triumph...

It may be VJ day, but I don't think the bombing is considered a shining light of righteousness as much as you think.

but there have been societies throughout history that did not hold the same view. If there were a god-given moral code, it would apply to them as equally as it applies to us.

Which societies? Which acts did they completely condone?

But what if free will gave you the ability to suppress that knowledge?

Deep down, you know that's not true.
I know no such thing, and please don't presume to tell me what I know and don't know.
If there is an objective standard of morality, a moral law if you will, that could only mean a moral law giver.
No, that conclusion doesn't necessarily follow, but even if it were correct, it also doesn't follow that the law giver cannot be humans. There are things that are universally true about human nature, we are social animals with the same needs for love and growth, we respond similarly to similar situations, and so forth. It can hardly be a surprise that we shape our rules and institutions to meet common human needs. Those common human needs provide a perfectly satisfactory explanation for human morality.
..if the moral standard they appealed to doesn't exist, and therefore morality is relative...
You're not thinking clearly. If the moral standard they appealed to doesn't exist, then morality is neither absolute nor relative, it's not there at all. Just because it's relative doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Which one is you? And why is the kid wearing sunglasses in the house and why is that lady swearing so fn much? Sounds like she should up her attendance. And the really big lesson here is wait till after Christmas to spring it on the parents. I would also sort of bet it was staged so she could be filmed while freaking out.

When I was a kid my parents explained in no uncertain terms that they wouldn't love me if I weren't religious and that they would throw me out of the house.

My grandparents were advised by their pastor to be cold to my sister and me because we were not Pentecostal. That being kind to us was in fact cruel because unless we changed (or my parents did) we were damned to hell.

So I can relate to the boy in the video. I hope he has sense enough to tell his parents to f**k right off.

It is impossible for me to express how much I dislike religion. I really wish there was a god so I could piss on him.
