Consumers who redeem money-saving coupons in stores face a "shame stigma" that may extend to people standing in line nearby, Canadian researchers suggest.
Marketing professors Jennifer Argo of the University of Alberta and Kelley J. Main of the Asper School of Business theorize that the act of redeeming coupons elicits a stigma-by-association phenomenon, in which the person redeeming the coupon and those around them are perceived as being "cheap."
Argo said coupon redemption rates tend to be low, with use tallying a modest two per cent in the U.S. The researchers suggest the modern consumer tends to prize status and luxury over thrift.

8O Damn straight I do, and I think anyone else who does it is almost as smart as I am.

My generation was taught to take every possible opportunity to save money; without being pinchpenny or miserly or forgetting our obligation to those less fortunate.

Our family learned the lesson well, and f u c k the braindead assholes at the CBC for asking such a stupid, condescending question.

BTW, we better get used to coupons; if Herr Harpo gets the maj. we are all going to be using food coupons, gas coupons, and trying to get sleeping bags and mattresses for life on the streets.

I rarely use coupons.I usually keep them until they are expired and then throw them out.The exception is the 'Golfpass' book where you get 2 for 1 deals.

i rarely use coupons.

the reason you may ask?

Coupons are usually only given out for the more expensive products. Name brand goodies. I buy the stuff that's cheaper than using a coupon.

Damn straight I use coupons, for things that I frequently use. I also recycle everything I can......newspapers, glass, plastic etc. I have been using fabric shopping bags for years now, long before they became readily available. I also believe in doing whatever I can to help save the environment. I'm not really cheap....just frugal....

Are you a socialist pig?
Is it dark in your Mom's basement?
Are you employed?
If you think socialism is so great why not be the first westerner to emigrate to Cuba?
