Yeah, we do lock the front door, back door not so much, the dog is usually out there anyway.

I'm not sure about "innocent" but doesn't weird cover most of the population? (Except for me and thee of course) -:)

I just recall living in a building with a lot of 'stoned' students who didn't pay attention to what floor they got off. Once they're off the elevator, everything pretty much looks the same. Then they're walking into your kitchen going "Hey wait, you're not Dave."

Maybe instead of 'innocent' I should have said "mostly harmless but weird", lol.

I bet a Rottweiler in the hall outside your door would mostly negate that problem!

Live on a farm at the edge of the city used to be too far out of town
but modern methods leave me no choice but to lock up. Almost
every neighbour has has been ripped off for something.

yep, the low life are everywhere, and an unlocked door is an invitation for them to come
in and help themselves.

I never lock the house. Sometimes when I come home there is meat, fruit or veggies let on the counter.

update: crackhead girlfriend has moved on, although she did attempt to jimmy the front security door in the middle of the night a few months back. She was recorded on tape. Someone who is fairly new to the building didn't know who she was and then let her in. Now she is gone again and buddy has his unit up for sale.

Hopefully he will be gone soon too.

Things are being left out in the social room again and are not disappearing. People are becoming more relaxed with their door locks. Funny how gaining or losing one neighbour can change everyone's world.

Lock, bolt and barricade and have a couple of man eating dogs tied up there. Back when I was a kid the best we had was an old skeleton key which we generally couldn't find when we felt we should use just to be on the safe side so our doors were seldom locked and we never got anything swiped.

Nope. never felt the need to lock the doors around here. I know insurance isn't valid if someone does get in but we can always break a window before the cops take an hour (if they haven't anything else to do) to get out here. Not that anything but more paperwork would come of it.

No but I may start.

Bears have been seen around again and while I realize they can get in if so inclined possibly locking the door might deter them to try something easier........

Some of both if I am somewhere on the farm no I don't cause I never
remember to take the damn key. If I am going away for the day and
no one is around yes I lock it. There is usually someone home most
of the time.

On the Prairies we only locked our doors when we'd be gone for an extended time. That was to prevent friends, relatives, and neighbours from sitting on the chesterfield waiting fruitlessly for us to return to make coffee.
