Do you have a religious mind?

Don't look to the Roman Catholic Church as "model" for this behavior any more than the Islamic "faith", these institutions have practiced prejudice and exclusivity for generations, sitting idle while good Catholics and good Protestants killed each other in Ireland and all over the world...

...

Really? And specifically what would you have had the Church do in these situations? Form an army and invade Ireland? Sitting idle indeed!

The religious mind is something entirely different from the mind that believes in religion. You cannot be religious and yet be a Hindu, a Muslim, a Christian, a Buddhist. A religious mind does not seek at all, it cannot experiment with truth. Truth is not something dictated by your pleasure or pain, or by your conditioning as a Christian or whatever religion you belong to. The religious mind is a state of mind in which there is no fear and therefore no belief whatsoever but only what is -what actually is.
What are your thoughts?

I have fears...so...I guess not. I'm not sure. I don't think I do. I don't know if I understand even. I just don't knoooowwwww.

How does the Catholic church handle that situation? What do they teach to their followers in Ireland? On Sundays, what are being told to the same people who on Monday will be in the streets fighting? How is that handled? I ask, because...well...I don't know. And...I have never thought about it, until now.

When are you going to realize that everybody is an individual. No matter what the sunday sermon is, dosen't mean the people listening to it are going to apply it to their lives.

:| I'm sorry, my mind is free to explore anything. I will not submit to the confines of 'religion'. Spirtuality has absolutly nothing to do with 'relgion'. Religion is for people who want someone to tell them 'evrwyfing is OK baby'. People need to convert their minds to freedom so we can get on with developing the human race to another level. We have been stargnated for thousands of years because the people in power think they are acting in the name of God. We need to be braver than that. We need to accept there may not be a God and we will just have to do things for ourselves as a speices.

It is very refreshing to read "what" I think as well, except that I have no doubt at all in my mind that
there is "no" god.
I love to see others say that we will just have to do things for ourselves as a species, it is a very
healthy way to think, and will make us much more responsible for the care of earth and ourselves.

That's an untested asertion Taloola, there are many, many heathens who display an irresponsible disregard for the natural world and mankind in general. We will have to do it for ourselves but where god has failed to motivate us to that end what hope has the common unbelieving rabble for environmental salvation in a timely manner.

By that definition, I'd have to say there's no such thing as a religious mind. At least not among humans. That's a rather god-like state you're proposing. If science makes anything clear at all, it's clear that nobody knows what actually is in any absolute and comprehensive sense.

Religion being a common faith shared by people, with common practices, dogma, doctrine and beliefs; by that I would say that the religious mind is more of a hive style. A religious mind has truth in their beliefs and in that there is fear. Fear of doing what is right always, not what is right at that moment, but what is right as dictated by that specific style of doctrine. The idea of a religious mind, that it can be open to all truths and constrained by no single brand of religion is by definition false. I would--as has been mentioned allready--call that a spiritual mind.

Dear China

I would love to answer your question regarding my mind.... it appears I have lost mine therefore cannot determine where it belongs.

Dear Curiosity , Right , and the pope is Polish (....the new one) .

Im not religious Im spiritual ...
An important distinction worth keeping in mind. I'm one of the most irreligious people I know, but I'm certainly aware of my spirituality. I might use different words than spirituality for it, and in fact often do, but they amount to the same thing. Anyone without spirituality is emotionally dead.

Nicely put Dexter.

I am Catholic, but I am a spiritual person, first and foremost. The religion in which I choose to fulfill that aspect of my personality, is secondary to me. I think it's the sense of wonder, the sense of power, the sense of being linked to all humanity, that is most important. The way we choose to explain that link, that power, it's all just window dressings as far as I'm concerned. Hmm.... not sure if I'm making much sense. lol. ah well.
