I now have a maple wine vinegar. Can make a maple vinegrette for salads. Might try my hand at a theme. A maple vinegrette for a salad, a sweet and sour sauce with maple wine vinegar, maple syrup and EVOO, and a maple something for dessert.

Here Love, to make it from scratch is a bit tough but this gives you an idea

Easy Flan

Flan is a traditional Mexican dessert and there are many versions. This one is prized for it's simplicity. If you've never made flan before, now is the time to try it.
INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 cup and 1/2 cup sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 13 oz cans evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
PREPARATION:

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. You will need 6 ramekins or other specialty flan cook ware and a large baking pan to put them in.
Pour 1 cup sugar in warm pan over medium heat. Constantly stir sugar until is browns and becomes caramel. zSB(3,3)
Quickly pour approximately 2-3 tablespoons of caramel in each ramekin, tilting it to swirl the caramel around the sides. Reheat caramel if it starts to harden.
In a mixer or with a whisk, blend the eggs together. Mix in the milks then slowly mix in the 1/2 cup of sugar, then the vanilla. Blend smooth after each ingredient is added.
Pour custard into caramel lined ramekins. Place ramekins in a large glass or ceramic baking dish and fill with about 1-2 inches of hot water. Bake for 45 minutes in the water bath and check with a knife just to the side of the center. If knife comes out clean, it's ready. Remove and let cool. Let each ramekin cool in refrigerator for 1 hour. Invert each ramekin onto a small plate, the caramel sauce will flow over the custard.

One thing that seems to terrify potential solo travelers is the very thought of dining alone. Yeah, it's true: people do tend to gawk at diners lacking a partner.

I figure, "so what?" Maybe they gawk because they're wishing they were you. Ever think of that?
Really--maybe they're thinking that if they were solo they wouldn't have to deal with the relationship stuff that defies logic, like "Honey, I know you really like the local wine and you hate sugary soft drinks...but I feel like a Coke and I can never finish a whole one...so would you do me a big, big favor and promise to drink half so I can feel free to order one?" Solo dining is really just a matter of changing your mindset--and enjoying your meal. Here are some ways to do that.

and after gr8 dinner have a little slow bally dance with long slim and big b... lady and lots of wine and then bed.......

oh man you cant have anything better then this

Critter loved my cookies. I think I'll make some after a nap. This is a new recipe for me and I use butter not shortning

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 C. raisins
  • 1 C. brown sugar
  • 1 C. granulated sugar
  • 1 C. shortening
  • 2 1/2 C. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 C. Old Fashioned Oatmeal

Preparation Steps

  1. Mix eggs, vanilla, and raisins together and let set 1 hour. Mix the shortening and sugars together well. Add egg mixture to shortening mixture. Sift dry ingredients together in small bowl and add to shortening/egg mixture. Add Oats last.
  2. Shape into balls the size of meatballs and flatten slightly with your hand. Bake at 350 degrees on ungreased cookie sheets for about 15 minutes. Remove to wire rack and cool.
  3. Yield: 5 Dozen

Cook Tips

  • It's very important to let the raisins soak in the egg and vanilla mixture to ensure the success of this recipe. They become swollen with great flavor and help to keep the cookies fresher longer. These make excellent snack cookies as they are very filling.

Cucumber Raita

CUCUMBER RAITA
1 cup plain yogurt
½ cucumber, grated or sliced
1 green or red chili, seeded and very finely chopped (opt)
sprinkle cumin powder
black pepper, salt to taste
1-2 springs of coriander leaves,
¼ tomato chopped to garnish

Method....
In a bowl beat the yogurt.
Add the other ingredients mix well and chill.
Garnish the raita with a coriander leaves and tomato.
Serve as a side dish with roti and as accompaniment to a main dish such as a biryani.

Raitas are very versatile and have a cooling effect, which will be appreciated if you are serving hot, spicy dishes.

Last nights supper was curried rice with raisins, shrimp poached in white wine with hot mango chutney and carrots braised in a honey garlic sauce.

I always have a book with me when I dine alone, either at home or eating out.

I see the christians have retaliated to the thread on neo-paganism with an anti-pagan thread. I think a blatant anti-christian thread would be a bit on the immature side. Obviously they feel threatened by a pro-pagan thread. Not very secure in their beliefs are they? Nor very accepting of the spititual path that others may choose to follow.
