Saskatchewan wants Toronto's recent university and college graduates - and they're willing to pay cash.
The province's premier and top mayors will be in the Big Smoke for the first week of April looking for new hires.
Brad Wall, Saskatoon Mayor Donald Atchison and Regina Mayor Pat Fiacco come bearing thousands of dollars to pay for the relocation - up to $20,000, plus guaranteed employment.
The only catch? You've got to commit to seven years out west, where in Saskatoon Tuesday, the temperature hit a high of -7C.
But if you've got student loans and other tuition debt to pay off, the cold just might be worth it. Though for high-demand jobs like those in the medical field, $20,000 may not be enough.
"The incentives that are being given now for physicians ... $20,000 doesn't seem like it's a very competitive number," said Toronto med student Khaled Hasen.
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty added he's not worried about provincial poaching.
"My competition is not the rest of Canada," he insisted. "My competition is New York, Michigan, Massachusetts, even California."
That said, there are thousands of jobs currently available in Saskatchewan, mostly in the following fields:
- engineering and applied science
- healthcare
- construction
- trades
The mission is the second that the Saskatchewan government has made to Toronto in the past six months. The last visit, which took place in September 2008, drew several hundred Torontonians to relocate to Saskatoon and Regina, currently the fastest and second-fastest growing cities in Canada respectively.
