So Annan's "apparently deliberate" is officially upgraded to "unquestionably deliberate" and Harper's "I seriously doubt that" will be remembered by every other player in the world for a long time to come. Little twerp even worded it so carefully at the outself, as is his style, that he can't even apologize now he's been shown the fool.

Of course, what does he care? He's got his little white bread circle jerk to keep him warm and it couldn't be more obvious.

It seems the Canadian government doesn't care that a Canadian was murdered by their allies.

Israel is only an ally to Israel, and to the U.S. if they keep the money and weapons coming. Ever hear of Israel providing aid to anyone?

Yes. In fact, real help to people they could easily consider enemies.

CONFLICT IN THE BALKANS; Bosnian Muslims To Settle in Israel
Print Save

Published: February 11, 1993
Israel announced today that it would take in 100 Muslim refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina and settle them in two Arab villages in Israel.

It acted in response to a request by Israeli Arab mayors, some of whom visited war-devastated Bosnia last year. Israel has taken in Jewish refugees from the former Yugoslav republic in the past.

"If there are no last-minute difficulties, the refugees will arrive in Israel next week," said Gad Ben-Ari, spokesman for Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

France is providing a plane to fly them here and the Housing Ministry will give them mobile homes, Ben-Ari said.

Now, try to imagine an Arab (or Persian) nation accepting a SINGLE Jewish refugee......

Oh, BTW, Israel was among the very first nations to accept Bosnian Muslim reugees....

I wish those in positions of leadership would simply admit that Israel deliberately targeted the UN. Anyone who says such a viewpoint is cynical should understand the sentiment that exists in Israel toward the United Nations.

RE: "Deliberate but Accid

It was a total slap in Annan's face. The man is a professional diplomat. It never even occurred to Grandstand Steve that the Secretary-General of the UN might have maybe gone off because he had more complete and immediate access to information than him.

First of all, no other player in the world gives a hoot what Canada says or does, we are INSIGNIFICANT, thanks to those who will remain nameless......

Secondly, if that arsehole Annan wants to blame someone, he can look directly in the mirror......why were lightly armed observers left in the path of an invasion? UN incompetence is the ONLY answer.

Thirdly, everyone but the tinfoil hat crew doubts that Israel would commit such a faux pas as to deliberately hand their enemies a propaganda BLITZ by targeting UN members.

This reminds me of the USS Liberty incident in 1967. The conspiracy nuts are STILL going on about that, when it has been explainesd over and over and over..........

Are you being purposefully opaque? Your first statement implies Annan was correct and they were targeted and Harper is an idiot for doubting it. Next you ask who said it??

Please be clear about what you mean. Do you accept the explanation? The wrong cooridinates were called in from the battlefield. If you do then Harper is correct. Let us not play semantic games here. Pick one:

A: This was a mistake, an accident. There was no intent to destroy the UN base and cause UN causualities.

B: There was a plan to destroy the UN base and injure UN personel.

Make up a C: if these aren't clear enough, but please try not to be enigmatic about it. Say exactly what you think happened.

If you are getting up on your high horse about something, I would like to know what it is?

The world would give very much a hoot about what Canada had to say. Except until now. Even to the extent that Israel would forge Canadian passports for their spy/espionage activity in the Middle East. This is because our reputation was once so good in the world, Canadians tended to be more easily accepted among people in other societies.

‘We’, up until now were seen as a balanced viewpoint on issues. This was never something to take for granted.

You know what is happening now that Harper decided he wouldn’t act diplomatically as a fair broker? Our security abroad for average Canadians have declined. Our respect has declined. Now people are starting to tell us about human rights.

I don’t think many of you really appreciate what that means when our position in the world gets weaker.

Canada, the good guys? No more.

Carolynne Wheeler, 25/07/06 at 5:21 AM EDT

It's not as easy as it once was to be a Canadian abroad.

There was a time when being a Canadian would instantly bring smiles to the faces of whoever you were speaking to, whether you were travelling in Western Europe or in the Middle East. We were the peacemakers, the good guys.

In recent months though, as Canadian troops have grown more involved in Afghanistan and our foreign policy has become more aligned with that of the United States, our happy maple-leaf passport is not always as welcome as it once was. And if you happen to be a holder of that passport, often those you meet want to let their feelings known, immediately and passionately, whether they're positive or negative -- as if you personally are responsible for every foreign policy decision of the last decade or so.

People in the world sure care enough to take notice.

Where did you read this. They said the coordinates were called in.

not from Asper

There are three ways such a bomb is directed. It could be set by a special-ops team in the field that marks the target with a laser, by a second plane using its laser as a guide, or by the bombing plane itself, marking the site first with a laser and then delivering the ordnance. This was how four Canadians were killed in Afghanistan four years ago during the so-called friendly fire incident.

The post was destroyed by a fighter/bomber. The UN post was clearly marked and had a flag pole with a large UN flag. Someone guided the bomb onto the target. Unless Israel is now using blind pilots, a mistake is unlikely.

Why yes, yes I have. Weren't they the first to send aid to the earthquake victims in Pakistan? Of course, that aid was promplty send back because it came from "Joooosss".

If being good guys means having to be spineless appeasers of terrorism and never taking a stand for what's right and defending our principles when it may put us at risk from those who would rejoice at stripping us of our freedom, then I'm fine with not being a "good guy".

It seems like a nonsensical statement in a vacuum. Apply the context in which it was uttered and it makes perfect sense. It was deliberate in that it was not a stray missile or a mistaken target - "oops, we meant to hit the building next door". It was accidental in that it ought not to have been targeted in the first place. Ergo, deliberate but accidental.

and a soldier "accidentally" points his laser at the building and command "accidentally" doesn't notice the coordinates are in the blue spot on the map next to the sticky note that says "don't hit the friendlies".

That's about as "accidental" as a driver plowing a car into a building with eyes wide open.

At the very least was a MISTAKE for which professional soldiers should face consequences.

What's really pathetic about this is how obvious it is that this action is being defended in the best interests of Grandstand Steve and not our country. I gotta hand it to him. He sure knows how to assemble the sheep.

.

So now your opinion has shifted to this being absolutely on purpose. They knew this was the UN they were bombing and decided that would be a good idea. You really believe that? Please answer this. You keep ducking the question while riding on your high horse. I want you on record stating you believe this was planned, purposeful, intentional attack on the UN.

:) The truth of the details behind what happened are a matter for investigation that we can only speculate on. I ws merely commenting on the meaningfulness of a seemingly nonsensical phrase.

I think in the interests of not making the Conservative faithful look even more foolish it behooves you to stop putting words in my mouth.

What they did was target the outpost and hit it.

Those ARE the details as they are known so far. They are damning enough.
