Data Mining - Opting Out - Deleting the Cookie Monster

Data Mining: How Companies Know Your Personal Information - TIME

Three hours after I gave my name and e-mail address to Michael Fertik, the CEO of Reputation.com, he called me back and read my Social Security number to me. "We had it a couple of hours ago," he said. "I was just too busy to call."

IOW? Isle of Wight? In other words?

10 year old or not, with a full name and birthdate which can easily be obtained through pipl.com it is enough to cause someone serious mayhem.

Same load of lying hype Bee Ess and Bunk I've read for the past 12 years I've been online-all to do with the End of the World or something similar.
What part of your arse did you dig that reply from. I would imagine to the last knuckle, and then a bit deeper.

There is No Info that's of any use to anyone on that weak kneed site-other than the fact that I like sportfishing-public knowledge.

In fact someone I know tried that avenue to gather info on me last year-and was sadly disappointed.

It really bothers you when others don't share your ignorant paranoia doesn't it?

Really -
When you call a call center about a product and are put on hold - here is what happens - Your phone number is broken down by neighborhood, income level and a heel of a lot more. Higher income gets moved up - Lower income waits - Purely business

When in the very near future you are shopping, pick a product off the shelf and put it back, they will be able to tell how many times it was picked and purchased, or returned and by who - Your profile is listed. .

Or when you walk thru those scanners we all see. They will read the different chips in your wallets and profile your shopping, they know more about your personal habits that you even know if you had to list them.

Just the facts man, not paranoia. FACTS.

Why would I call a Call Centre about a product-my life isn't about buying products YMMV as always.

LOL!!

You really are a loon.

Crazy as a bedbug-of course bedbugs are making a comeback....

FYI-The only people who have anything to worry about are the chronic dimwits who post on threads like this

I wouldn't touch a morass like that anymore than I would invite someone like you for dinner-that will never happen.

Klout.com has picked up my LinkIn profile. This is not that big of a deal considering all the information is already publicly viewed on LinkIn and can be found on google

but, I am still wondering if I would have any legal grounds to ask Klout.com to take the information down. What do you guys think?

Maybe I could send them an invoice every month that they keep my data. :)

Bill you are right. i am sure that you have noting in that cave you dwell in that would require any man made products.
As to dinner,I agree. We like our food cooked, with taste and use cutlery. So the invite would of course be turned down, graciously as possible, but turned down nonetheless.

If Klout is collecting data from publicly available websites (facebook, linkIn), you're SOL. If you want your personally info to remain under your control, set LinkIN, facebook etc to private or delete them entirely.

I dont reveal anything too personal on linkin because its my job related profile. And i have the facebook set to friends only but i dont reveal too much on my wall because something that is funny on a friday night can be very distasteful on a monday morning. Many of my facebook friends are associated to my job so i have to be careful.

Imo, if you want to share personal information do it by email......even that is not the best idea.

its probably pretty shocking how many people dis their boss on facebook and forget that they made their boss a facebook friend
