Seven months after a dam was demolished to make a river free-flowing for first time in 49 years, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recommend building several new dams along the same river's route. BRILLIANT

Seven months after Franklin’s dam on the Harpeth River was demolished, making the river free-flowing for the first time in 49 years, inspectors at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers believe several new dams should be added along the river’s route.

Franklin Mayor Ken Moore and city aldermen tonight will discuss an agreement asking Franklin, Brentwood and Williamson County to partner with Metro government to finance a $1.4 million feasibility study examining ways to reduce flood risk and ways to repair the river’s ecosystem.

You are surprised? Why? I believe I read somewhere there are people doing those
feasibility studies on the prairie in recent years to figure out ways to serve non urban
centers with some form of alternate rail service. Remember thirty years ago or a little
further back they pulled up all the rails on the prairies and watched small towns like
Wawota Saskatchewan die?
This nonsense goes on all the time, most of it it wasteful and harmless. For example
they have changed the traffic patterns in Kelowna a dozen times in the past thirty years.
Each time they have screwed traffic up in the town core even more. With the latest
one I have decided not to shop there anymore and soon it won't even be favourable to
bikes.
As for waterways, they are so concerned about the environment because the public has
been stampeded into believing its necessary. Of course when you destroy a damn after
decades being there, there is also a new echo system that gets destroyed. Not to mention,
water levels change affecting the tourist industry and the amount of electrical power that now
has to come from somewhere else and costs more.
The problem is most of these people don't know when to leave well enough alone.

That is how ex-perts and bureaucraps make their living. Create a problem where none previously existed and then try to make it worse.

If they took the damn down because it filled with sediment, in a big rain that former lake bottom can cut loose and wipe everything out down stream.

They had to know about that and waited to use fear to build new dams without green issues.

You're giving bureaucraps far too much credit.

Decades ago when I lived in Kamloops, the city council would change with every election and so would all the one-way streets. The first few times were really confusing but it happened so often folks just got used to it and planned accordingly.

Backwater, Ontario.
Read about that when it first came out, maybe a few years ago, maybe not so long.

Apparently, the river bottom behind the dam had become dangerously silted, and, as Petros said, if the dam let go, it would have been a disaster for all down river.

Guess it was anyway.

go figure.

Maybe the Corps should be figuring out a way not to let New Orleans get swamped (again) in times of flood.

Don't talk to me about Kamloops. How they expect me and other drivers to get 100,000+ pounds of truck & trailer down that hill without using an engine brake is beyond comprehension.
