Court quashes dad's grounding of 12-year-old daughter

Well, the father's decision violates my personal rules regarding the removal of privileges for children. Try never to remove an educational opportunity or a physical activity from your kids.

From a civil court point of view, when you take into account the amount of time and money a child sinks into these trips in terms of fundraising, etc, then I can see some of why they felt justified in stepping in and protecting her right to go.

I still don't like that it even WENT to court though. There seem like a dozen better ways to address it, rather than wasting tax payer's money on a court case

and what do YOUR personal rules have to do with what HE feels is an appropriate punishment for what she did? Personally I agree with him. My son is getting ready to go to Italy with his school marching band, if he continually broke house rules, you can be DAMNED sure he wouldn't be going to Italy this summer. If he's not mature enough and can't be trusted to follow house rules then he sure as hell isn't mature enough or trustworthy enough to follow the rules outside the home.

The judge was out of line to even hear this case let alone rule on it. She should be censured.

I believe that she has no rights whatever in this regard, you did use the word privilage and that privilage was to be extented at her fathers convenience but certainly she has no rights as such in this matter.

With the lack of dicipline these days, its no wonder you have all the trouble and violence in schools.

Many of the older generations have suffered no ill affects for being punished by their parents...

So this is what it's like getting older huh? Now I know why the older generations always were fearful that the planet would be doomed because of how screwed up the next generation is..... and here we are doing the same thing.
