Well, the father's decision violates my personal rules regarding the removal of privileges for children. Try never to remove an educational opportunity or a physical activity from your kids.
From a civil court point of view, when you take into account the amount of time and money a child sinks into these trips in terms of fundraising, etc, then I can see some of why they felt justified in stepping in and protecting her right to go.
I still don't like that it even WENT to court though. There seem like a dozen better ways to address it, rather than wasting tax payer's money on a court case
