Conservatives say new program spending risks Canada’s future — unless they’re the ones doing it

“We have made it very clear that we do not want to see new permanent spending programs because that will undermine our ability to provide future generations of Canadians with hope for the future, for a prosperous future,” Fast said in an interview with the Star this week.

But at the same time, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole is promising new permanent spending in the form of transfers to provinces to support mental health care — one of the five pillars of his plan announced at the party’s convention last month.

Speaking at the Liberal party’s virtual policy convention Thursday evening, Freeland said the COVID-19 crisis has created a “window of opportunity” for the country to recognize the importance of a national child care plan — one of the permanent new programs being considered by the government for the April 19 budget.

Opportunity or no choice after FNs took a whack at the Fed's knees over child welfare mismanagement?

There is a difference between well thought out programs and turdOWE's throwing borrowed money into the wind. Building ports, pipelines and highways to ease getting our products to market is good program spending. Giving people money to not work is bad program spending. Stealing from the west to give to parasites in OntariOWE and Kweebek is bad program spending.
