Am I to understand that like myself, you were unaware that ladies hairdressing was an Olympic sport?

worst sport ever.

agreed
curling its so boring its almost surrealistic
i suppose because canadians are good at it we are obligated to
say we like it
canadains win at this sort of stuff because the portugeese arent interested in becoming an imperial curling power
if they did canada would surely lose and have to invent another absurd sport that only they and their kind would excell at it

PETITION TO STEVEN HARPER

WE THE CITIZENS OF CANADA SOLEMNLY DECLARE OUR WISH TO BAN THE SPORT OF CURLING AS WE FIND IT MIND NUMBING AND COUNTERPRODUCTIVE TO OUR NATIONAL PURPOSE

Sport isn't all muscle

Nice thought Jeckgo!

Some athletic competitions are a combination of muscle and brain and now that I am finally "getting the idea how Curling works, I am thoroughly enjoying it. I don't know if I would want to watch the every day players - but watching the best is great.

The planning and execution and teamwork is excellent and I see how people can get caught up in the drama of mind over muscle.

Canadian Men's Curling Team were terrific and I add my congratulations!! The Women's Team did pretty well too.

The world does not agree with Wednesday's Child.

There was like six people in the stadium in Turin other than the friends and family of the players participating.

I have no idea how that ever got to be an Olympic event. It is about as exiting as watching paint dry.

It was a great game ! Mike Nichols was flawless. The women's final last night was even better -- won with a tricky double in the tenth end.

Curling gets a bad rap because it not terribly athletic, but its a fascinating game, like chess on ice -- and a perfect winter sport in that much of it comes down to reading the minute peculiarities of the ice surface.

I wish I was in St. John's tonight !!

They should make it a truly Canadian Sport by adding the ability of the opposing team to bodycheck the sweepers as they come down the ice!

Then we might have something people will watch to see the sweepers get slammed up against the dashboards.

It's funny how I was just saying the same thing to a co-worker just a few hours ago.

Generally when you think of an Olympic sport, fat people just should be able to play it well, yet there are fat curlers, thus it's a sport, yeah, but it shouldn't be an olympic sport.

The world doesn't have to agree with me "Canadian"...

That's the beauty of it - and what some see as sport - others see as a waste of time.

Bullfighting comes to mind when I hear the people talk sport. Is it a sport or animal cruelty? It's hardly fair sport.

For instance I think the only real competition would be to tie wiry jute around the rider's cojones before mounting the bull.

yeah but Bull fighting isn't a olympic sport either and rightfully so.

Curling is like, if you add, darts, or pool, or ummm, Texas Hold'em to the olympics. I like the those games but I don't think it takes an olympic athelet to be good at them, just like the fat slops in curling!

I was not implying anything Wed.

There was like six people in the stands which is the point I was making.

Now Bull fighting is an exciting sport. Only they should put some protection on the bull, sharpen the horns and add some hooks and chains to give the bull more of a chance to win more. More than a few Matadores have lost fights.

Understood - and I appreciate the point but the audience was through television because Curling isn't a good international sport and while the Europeans are finally gaining ground and getting some good teams together, it isn't a popular audience sport.

Perhaps it should not be an Olympic sport - any more than Bowling is... dunno and I'm glad I don't have to make those decisions.

But based upon the "boring" aspect of Curling, I believe that should not be a consideration. Are we all to bow down to the huge popularity of football, basketball, baseball and hockey and dump the other activities only a few people enjoy?

Thing is - some sports just don't attract the public - which is why I think their exposure in the Olympics is a good thing. There are no big Super Curling Bowls are there? Do we have to have a megamillion dollar audience for every sport. Curling has retained
its amateur status much more than some of the other events.

Take Olympic Hockey or Basketball for instance. The players are usually professionals and the whole tournament becomes a joke with teams made up of players who get paid to play. We lose the amateur aspect of wanting to excel at a sport for no other reason than love of it.

In our modern world of paid athletes, we have lost the purity of sporting events and I guess that's why I am even trying to defend Curling....even though I am losing badly. :p

About the bulls Canadian I didn't mean the Spanish/Mexican Bull Fights (my mistake- sorry) I was referring to Bull Riding at western Rodeos....have you seen the crap they tie around the bull's privates? It is sickening. That's not sport. Nor is Bull Fighting.
Those swords they plunge into the bull's shoulders cut the tendons so the bull can't lift its head to gore the matador or piccador....or whoever the fools are who take part in it.

how about bull curling
sedate the bull grab it by the horns and see how far you can slide toward a painted target on the ice

you can use hockey sticks to prod it along

i would pay to go see that for sure!

I understand you concern for sports like Hockey and so on with over paid athlets. But there's only handfull of olympic sports like that. Speed skating, bob sleeting, figure skating even, and the vast magority of these sports the athelets get very little when pro. There best hope in getting a little bit of cash is to win gold and hope you get to do a Tim Hortins commercial. Hockey is the odd man out in the winter Olympics.

I agree that the image of curling must be updated to appeal to the current blood thirsty lusting desire of the masses. With regards to the references to bulls , maybe we could have the running of the stones on the curling rink. One team has to run down the ice sweeping while the other team hurls the stones at them- that might ensure some good injuries to increase the numbers of spectators.

How about replacing the brooms with fencing swords.... oh yeah!
