Concerns have been raised about the Queen's health after she cancelled plans to travel to Sandringham at the last minute yesterday.

Buckingham Palace said both she and the Duke of Edinburgh have "heavy colds" and decided it would be best to postpone their trip.

Her Majesty, who is 90, had been due to catch the 10.44 from London King's Cross to King's Lynn to begin her annual Christmas break at her Norfolk home, but failed to turn up, leaving station staff in the dark.

Concerns have been raised about the Queen's health after she cancelled plans to travel to Sandringham at the last minute today.

Buckingham Palace said both she and the Duke of Edinburgh have "heavy colds" and decided it would be best to postpone their trip.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: "The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh have heavy colds, and so have decided not to travel to Sandringham today."

Royal sources suggested the Queen was likely to travel on Thursday instead.

Her Majesty had hosted the annual Christmas lunch at the Palace on Tuesday, when the extended Royal family joined her for the traditional get-together before her winter break in Norfolk.

In 2011 the Duke of Edinburgh, 95, spent Christmas in hospital after he needed heart surgery for a blocked artery.

He spent four nights in hospital at Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire after being helicoptered there with serious chest pains.

On Tuesday Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen would be stepping down as Patron of 25 organisations in an acknowledgement that she will need to reduce her workload.

Long live the Queen!

She could carry on for 10 years yet, her Mother went to 101. I have no problem with Lizzy, she hasn't harmed a soul and has likely done some good.

People who bad mouth her are just showing their ignorance. My guess is we don't see more than 1% of what goes on in her life.

Why isn't she in hospital?

I think she's just got a cold. Having said that, the Royal Household does have its own doctors and physicians.

She's not been seen for something like 13 days, and there was even a report on the internet claiming she has died. But Buckingham Palace rubbished the claim.

Media blackout Queen dead rumours: Buckingham Palace say Her Majesty is 'recovering' | Daily Star

What will happen when the Queen dies?

National mourning

The Queen's death will trigger an official 12-day period of national mourning.

Union Jacks will be flown at half mast throughout the country and books of condolence will be opened at embassies across the world.

The London Stock Exchange will be closed for at least the day of the Queen's funeral and potentially for several days - potentially costing the economy billions.

The Queen’s body will be taken to Parliament, where she will lie in state in Westminster Hall – like the Queen Mother in 2002 – until her funeral.

More than 200,000 people travelled to pay their respects to the Queen Mother and that number is expected to be vastly exceeded in the event of the Queen's death.

I'm not sure why any A$$hole would wish death upon our Queen! (I suppose being an A$$hole is a good enough reason)

Ole Big Ears and his mare get to move into Buck House.

Nah, It's going to take more than a cold to kill old Lizzy!

She's not "our" queen. I don't accept that she reigns over me. If I said I'm king of Canada because God says so, I'd be locked up. Monarchists are as idiotic as vegans and naturopaths.

We'd be happy to provide a box for her. Heck, we're willing to help bury the whole island!

We won't get the opportunity however. The Muslims are busy doing that now. The women will be allowed in to go through the Queen's frillies and pick out what they want - right after Charles gets his turn. After all, he is allegedly a family member.
