Toronto police have scrapped a plan to acquire a controversial piece of technology that picks up the sound of gunfire and reports it to front line officers over concerns it could violate Charter rights.
A Toronto police spokesperson confirmed to CBC Toronto that a plan to purchase the ShotSpotter system, touted last summer by Mayor John Tory as a way to help curb gun violence in the city, has been shelved.
ShotSpotter, which has been used at times by nearly 100 U.S. cities, detects loud sounds, filters them to determine whether they are gunfire and, if they are, forwards a report to police.
But the provincial Ministry of the Attorney General expressed concerns that the technology may violate residents' Charter rights pertaining to unreasonable search and seizure.
(Oh right! And WHOSE RIGHTS will be violated by cops getting reports of gunfire? We should ask if the prime LIE-beral focus is to AVOID having certain neighbourhoods condemned even further by having an ACCURATE count of the number of gun incidents occurring there?)
(WE know that TCHC -not so affordable housing - holds a very small portion of the Toronto population - yet it is the site of LARGE NUMBERS of criminal incidents! It seems LIE-berals DO NOT want to admit that their immigration policy is a DISMAL FAILURE as it has allowed into Canada so very many people who have NO HOPE of succeeding in Canada due to language and educational limitations and just plain crap attitudes to white society!!!!!!!!)
(We should assume that LIE-berals want to HIDE the true number of gun incidents as yet another LIE-beral way of manipulating crime statistics! LIE-berals claim they use plea bargaining to free up costly court time- but the real result is to plea bargain major crimes into minor ones and to make minor crimes disappear entirely so that LIE-beral policy looks less poisoned - plea bargaining aids LIE-berals in HIDING how badly their law and immigrartion policies are FAILING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Tory was a vocal proponent of the ShotSpotter technology last summer as the city dealt with a spike in gun violence. Toronto also had a record year for homicides in 2018 with 96.
(Yes -Tory is the Classic LIE-beral! Talk tough until the public outrage subsides a little and then shelve any logical action that might expose LIE-berals as anti white bigots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Earlier in the year, Tory announced a $15 million "gun violence reduction plan" that included a larger police presence in what he called "high-priority areas."
(In other words LIE-berals are partly restoring cop staffing levels in hope that lame effort will curb public complaints! LIE-berals are hoping we WILL NOT ASK about things like plea bargaining, lax bail conditions and early release of career criminals for so called “good behaviour”!!!!!!!!!!)
Shortly after, Toronto city council voted to approve a five-year $44-million plan that would see investments in enhanced enforcement measures, including the ShotSpotter technology, and community programs aimed at violence prevention.
(But now the gun violence rate has abated- for now due to the cold weather - and the LIE-beral FIX is in!!!! There will be NO NEW technology since it might embarrass LIE-berals! And might lose votes for LIE-berals among certain ethnic voters if the criminal truth came out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Probably good they cancelled that program. Too easy for police with an agenda to abuse. Especially in Toronto where certain groups want to ban all privately owned firearms.
