Meh. People just say that gods love us. It's wishful thinking.
If there was an intelligent consciousness that created the universe, it is indifferent to human mental masturbation: tiny insignificant specks on an insignificant speck of dust in an infinite sea of specks of dust. It is nothing but human ego insecurity that thinks the creative consciousness that created infinity would care what they think, believe and do.

I don't know if any one of us knows what a Christian is, let alone whether it sharpens the minds of those who claim they are. Buddhism may be the better nostrum.
What part of this is confusing, reading isn't even a demand. If you aren't at this level He sends you back for more training.

Jas:2:15:
If a brother or sister be naked,
and destitute of daily food,
Jas:2:16:
And one of you say unto them,
Depart in peace,
be ye warmed and filled;
notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body;
what doth it profit?

Jas:2:17:
Even so faith,
if it hath not works,
is dead, being alone.
Jas:2:18:
Yea,
a man may say,
Thou hast faith,
and I have works:
shew me thy faith without thy works,
and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
Jas:2:19:
Thou believest that there is one God;
thou doest well:
the devils also believe,
and tremble.

1Pe:4:6:
For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead,
that they might be judged according to men in the flesh,
but live according to God in the spirit.

lol Cliffy, you're preaching to the choir, so to speak. :D
..and you catch a troll instead, you're late.

That is a borrowed concept relabels as conclusive thinking, at least it is in agreement.

Jas:4:14:
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow.
For what is your life?
It is even a vapour,
that appeareth for a little time,
and then vanisheth away.

And how is what I said trolling? The infinite is incomprehensible to the finite mind. To think otherwise is pure egomania. That is the truth as I see it. Your truth seems to be different. So what?

I'd also like to point out that serious Christians don't appear to me to be any sharper than the rest of us. Quite the contrary in fact, far as I can tell all seriously religious people of any sect are suffering from a serious delusion.
The ones who don't verify what is being preached may be somewhat less than being 'serious'. That's comforting that you can determine that, now before we all jump for glee we need to verify that your are free from any and all delusions. If the answer to this question is 'yes' then you fail.
If there was a solution to the Bible would you have figured it out by now?

Now if my version is in error I get to get drunk.

1Co:15:32:
If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus,
what advantageth it me,
if the dead rise not?
let us eat and drink;
for to morrow we die.

God held back true belief from Neb until Neb was in ol age and about ready to enter the grave. Does he sound bitter about the delay?

Da:4:34:
And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven,
and mine understanding returned unto me,
and I blessed the most High,
and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever,
whose dominion is an everlasting dominion,
and his kingdom is from generation to generation:
Da:4:35:
And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing:
and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven,
and among the inhabitants of the earth:
and none can stay his hand,
or say unto him,
What doest thou?
Da:4:36:
At the same time my reason returned unto me;
and for the glory of my kingdom,
mine honour and brightness returned unto me;
and my counsellers and my lords sought unto me;
and I was established in my kingdom,
and excellent majesty was added unto me.
Da:4:37:
Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven,
all whose works are truth,
and his ways judgment:
and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

And how is what I said trolling?
It wasn't so why did you get a troll answer?

That you find meaning in all that gibberish is not so much a sign of intelligence as it is a sign of fantastic imagination. Your conclusions are just that - yours. They hold no meaning to anybody else. And that is the point of my observations: every individual comes to understand life/reality./god/truth in their own way. There are no absolutes.

There are no absolutes except you are void of being able to grasp the smaller segments. Gibberish would not be able to transfer what God gave Ned as a king of kings to Christ when He is King of Kings. I'll even supply the root verse, you supply what that means for the day the iron/clay kingdom ends.

Da:2:38:
And wheresoever the children of men dwell,
the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand,
and hath made thee ruler over them all.
Thou art this head of gold.

That sounds strangely like an Idol to me....so which is idolatry, worshiping god or jesus?

Idiot. Perhaps because he thought it was a pun (which is what I intended it to be; so your opinion that I was trolling is off the mark, as usual.
I have to admit having the word choir in there didn't elevate you up to the top of the list at first.
Now that I apply that to your specific view of God troll is not the right term, my bad.
Goes to show whey verification is needed as first impressions aren't always the full and final version.

What your term means and how you arrive at it is a far reach from the biblical God that there is a lot less than any similarity and the near and dear version you do have about it that any other version should have just as many errors.
You had to invent God from scratch, my version was invented by somebody else. If I am going to define God as anything that version works just fine for me and that is a conclusion reached after covering a great amount of it in some detail. You can have the figurative version, the literal version is the only one that deserves to be worshiped anyway. How deep of a conversation can you get into with people (you two specifically) when even the explanation is gibberish to you. That doesn't leave a lot of room for discussion and I fail to see how that position makes you the 'one with the best explanation')

Read the book and your question will be answered.
I've read Mere Christianity and found it singularly unpersuasive. It was Lewis who argued, for instance, that Jesus must either really be the son of god or a shocking liar or insane, as if there were no other options. He missed the most obvious one: the reports we have about Jesus are embellished and exaggerated and thus fundamentally untrue.

Dear MHz,

Are you a Christian?
Yes?
No?
Pick one.

Sign me,
Even more confused
Yes I am a Christian, unlike most I read the Bible more than I listen to idle men and the idle chatter about what the Bible means. I say, 'Oh.' a lot more than I say, 'What'. Two fairly easy examples of why I think it is more than possible for men to fully understand the Bible.
Daniel was kept in the dark to the extent the NT was not yet written, Daniel would have understood every word in Revelation on the first read. we are lucky if we can see that there is even a connection between the metal kingdom and Revelation being the last metal kingdom that Daniel covers. I already know the minute details of how it all plays out, the ones here don't even know such a thing exists. I'm not the one that deserves to be pitied.

Da:7:19-27:
Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast,
which was diverse from all the others,
exceeding dreadful,
whose teeth were of iron,
and his nails of brass;
which devoured, brake in pieces,
and stamped the residue with his feet;
And of the ten horns that were in his head,
and of the other which came up,
and before whom three fell;
even of that horn that had eyes,
and a mouth that spake very great things,
whose look was more stout than his fellows.
I beheld,
and the same horn made war with the saints,
and prevailed against them;
Until the Ancient of days came,
and judgment was given to the saints of the most High;
and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.
Thus he said,
The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth,
which shall be diverse from all kingdoms,
and shall devour the whole earth,
and shall tread it down,
and break it in pieces.
And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise:
and another shall rise after them;
and he shall be diverse from the first,
and he shall subdue three kings.
And he shall speak great words against the most High,
and shall wear out the saints of the most High,
and think to change times and laws:
and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
But the judgment shall sit,
and they shall take away his dominion,
to consume and to destroy it unto the end.
And the kingdom and dominion,
and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven,
shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High,
whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

Such stories usually fade over centuries, perhaps the allure of religion is it gives people something to spend their money on and it thrives on that aspect while also hiding that aspect as the customers would leave if word ever got out.

To truly fleece somebody you need two to do it. Belief is a 3 week study and then no more expenses, the business models has customers never reaching a place where their weekly cash donations are not a requirement of salvation.` That is hardly the actions of somebody being long term 'helpful'.

Thank you, your answer was helpful.
Now for a little more of your help.
I am going to list groups who claim to be Christian. I will list but a few which I have encountered as a Prairie lad.

Catholics
Orthodox
Hutterites
United Churchers (I am not certain of the correct term)
Lutherans
Baptists
Doukhobors
Evangelicals
Presbyterians
Anglicans
Mennonites
Seventh-Day.Adventists
Jehovah's Witnesses
Mormons
Dutch Reformers
Quakers
The Salvation Army

All claim to be Christian. Which of those, if any, would you support in that claim? Which would you not? And your reasons.

Thanking you in advance,
Spade

Others may respond as well. Motar?

The Churches you listed are groups designed by men. The 7 Churches in revelation have anout 15 different relationsip that are based on God being at the top of the list of important things. Not trying to be a cop out but in all the ones on your list you will fiind people that firt all 14 of those different relationships. That is based on the idea that anybody who has read Revelation has heard of therm God and as such as some idea formed about who He is. I don't see how any Gentile can exempt themselves from being a part of the list as it was a Roman who pierced His skin on the cross.

Re:1:7:
Behold,
he cometh with clouds;
and every eye shall see him,
and they also which pierced him:
and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him.
Even so,
Amen.

Re:22:10:
And he saith unto me,
Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book:
for the time is at hand.
Re:22:11:
He that is unjust,
let him be unjust still:
and he which is filthy,
let him be filthy still:
and he that is righteous,
let him be righteous still:
and he that is holy,
let him be holy still.
Re:22:12:
And,
behold,
I come quickly;
and my reward is with me,
to give every man according as his work shall be.

Outstanding query, Spade!

Denomination means nothing!

Christianity is a personal matter!
