And, of course the u.s. doesn't spy at all right?, and as
we have learned from the iraq fiasco, even when they do
spy, they don't report the truth, hence, wmds in iraq?
'intelligence' is just another word for spying.

The Difference...

Canada the USA....common language, common heritage, both under English Common Law, both constitutional democracies, allies with a number of mutual defence treaties, FRIENDS

Canada and China.........just compare ENEMIES

you talk as though because china has spys, they are doing
something wicked, there are spys all over the world from
many countries.

we can be friends with many countries, whether they have
a mutual democracy, and language or not.

that seems to be a big problem with the western democracies,
they don't seem to trust anyone 'who' is different, let
alone, a country that doesn't treat their people in a
fair way.

I can back up any of the numbers quoted below. Pick one, and ask.

Okay, the problem is China will not stat within its borders.....if you read the beginning of this thread, you will see that the current flap is over China threatening the democratic state of Taiwan. As well, China is extensively engaged with some of the worst human rights abusers on earth.....China is heavily involved in spying....

China should have been militarily contained and economically isolated decades ago......better late than never.

Taiwan is traditionally part of China. It's just that during WWII, the Japanese invaded it. After they were defeated, Chang and their corrupt KMT fleed to Taiwan. Chang and his party are still CHINESE people. The only difference is that there was never an official end to the civil war just like there was no official end to the war between North and South Korea.

If memory serves me correct, my friend's Taiwanese passport still says on it Taiwan ROC (Republic of CHINA). Up until recently, Taiwan wasn't even recognized as a sovereign country.

Anyway, you shouldn't have to worry about Taiwan, the US is shipping massive amounts of weapons to them so if anything happens you can be sure your American friends will send some aircraft carriers over there. Besides, there is money to be made for the American war profiteers. The Iraq war is winding down, all the American servicemen coming home will find no jobs available. What could be more beneficial than to start another war... put the military back in action and reneg on the debt that the US owes China? Meanwhile build up the American manufacturing base again...It can't get any better than that.

If memory serves me correct, China WAS contained militarily and economically circa 1890's to the 1920's through a series of wars (or skirmishes) with the combined western powers of the British, French, Germany, and US. I'm certain that China resented this invasion and forced concessions by the western world. I'll bet you that that is the reason why Communism was so popular there. The influx of western influence that brought forth corruption and opium addiction caused the Chinese people to suffer while bringing an elite few to become uber-rich. I'm sure that if China was treated fairly and humanely by the West, things would be drastically different today.

If you ask any Chinese immigrant about Mao, they will say that he is a hero (except for the Cultural Revolution). Just like if you ask any Cuban about Fidel, they will say he is a hero. This is not brain-washing. Fidel and Mao brought order and stability to a country in chaos and built up the economy from basically zero. I think if you lived in those times, you would've probably given up a few human rights for stability and safety and not worrying about whether some westerner is going to put a bullet through your head... not just for yourself but for your kids sake as well. If you've ever been to the Shanghai Bund, the sign that says "No dogs or Chinese allowed" still stands as a reminder of how the westerners treated the Chinese people... like dogs.

I'm am not for Communism nor am I against it. It is just an ideology that certain countries adopt and in some cases turn out to be beneficial. Every country has their problems and China is no exception. However, change should be brought forth gradually and not suddenly and certainly not forced. I think China still has a long way to go but they are making strides in the fact that they opened up to the western world after they were forced to bend over and take it during the early late 1800's to early 1900's.

You speak of spying? You can look no further that to your neighbour to the south. They have been actively bringing down govt's all over the world and propping up their own. They have conducted false-flag operations to their own benefit. They have historically and repeatedly moved into an area, taken advantage of the people and resources residing there. I think China is the least of your worries at the moment.
