Understand that embargos go both ways. Enough countries stop trad with China she may bend a bit. China has o foot in the modern era now. It will be sensitive to a certain point.

With this, at least, I fully agree.

And that would be a disaster......for human rights, for the well-being of the world and all its peoples.

And for western civilization.

This subject really gets me upset. It is insane how we are dealing (or rather, failing to deal) with the burgeoning monster.....instead we feed her......ARGH!!!!!

Greed drives our dealings with China, pay a few bucks more for something made by Canadians? Nah, we nickle and dime our own workers right out of jobs. Now it's to the point where you can't avoid products made in china.

Perhaps you should send a letter to lil' Steve to see what he going to do to keep jobs here before the only ones left are in finance and making money from money.

Steve should have told the Chinese to Kiss My Furry Arse, and was doing so until the current economic crisis. He was wrong to go to China. He was wrong to stand and accept for one millisecond their insults. He was correct in insisting on some discussion of human rights.

At least we have been spared the spectacle of semi-annual Tean Canada trips indulged in by the Liberals, in which they competed to be first to approach on their knees the lauded heads of the Chinese Communist Party.....the organization resposible for more death than any other on earth.

Like to know what Team Canada's sport was??? Let's just say it is an exercise best performed whilst on your knees.

One had to work hard to avoid vomiting, watching the exercise.:angryfire::angryfire:

Thank you for reminding me of one more reason I vote Conservative.

They are the best....of the worst.

BTW, the rant above means I totally agree with your post. :canada:

Isn't it just goofy to whine and complain about chinese goods being bought in canada. We are so far past the beginning of chinese goods in canada, there will never be
any turning back.

The people of canada have the last word on that subject.
They buy the chinese products by the millions, and that
will not change.

We can only control what 'we' do, and can only suggest by
our example, how others should improve their human rights.
Threats by us to them, does nothing, they have to struggle
through their problems, and change will gradually come about over
the next 1000 years, on it's own, with good examples shown by others
across the world.
I don't fear china, I admire many things about them, and see their wrongs and rights.

Wonder what canada would be like if we had over one billion
people, probably would have a few human right problems,
because we couldn't behave the way we do now, such leniency,
as we have now, I don't think so, we would probably be
somewhere inbetween them and us at the present.

Why do we keep buying from China, after all they have killed our pets and tried to poison our children with lead and cadmium in their toys. There is really nothing we need from them except to coexist peacefully.

We have to worry and protect our own children, it is our
responsibility, and we shouldn't be sluffing it off on
china or any other country, then whine when they don't
do it.
China will worry about themselves, and as they know we
are monitoring all products, they will conform to the
rules.

I do like their methods of removing those responsible. They are just going thru growing pains as did Japan in the 1950's-60's. I do avoid buying cheap toys and check sources of pet food.

Talloka, I am about to administer a spanking........in the intellectual sense......

China is Mordor. Since the Revolution's success in 1949, the Chinese Communist Party has sent at least 50 million Chinese to their deaths. AT LEAST.

Let me put that in perspective for you. In four years of organized slaughter that was World War One in the trenches of France and Belguim, men by the hundreds of thousands run into the muzzles of machine guns, for day after day, month after month, year after year.......the death count of the entire war was 25 million.

The Second World War, mass slaughter world-wide, mass bombing of civilian populations, the Holocaust, combat throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia on land air and sea, culminating in the use of atomic bombs.........killed about 50 million........

Those pariahs, the Israelis.....in 60 years of practically never-ending war......that has made them in the eyes of the brain-dead the worst state on earth....guess what the death count is for both sides in that 60 year war????? LESS than 100,000. A LOT less. Probably one half that, for every single person on either side killed in that conflict, the Chinese Communist Party has killed 1,000 persons.

So, this is all in the past, right???

WRONG! China admits to executing 1500 people a year, more than all other nations combined.....Human rights groups estimate the real number is 10 times that.

Reputable Canadian human rights workers have accused the Chinese of recently murdering 40,000 Falun Gong members.....and selling their internal organs.

The Christian Church is under attack in China.......Christians disappeared, jailed, fined, put to hard labour simply for engaging in religious services not vetted by the Chinese gov't.

Tibet. Need I say more?

Piracy....China has been deeply involved.

Tianamen Square....thousands dead.

In Australia, a turncoat Chinese intelligence agent states that China has 1,000 spies in Canada. Yep. Our buddies.

Four of the worst lunatic states on earth today....North Korea, Iran, the Sudan, Zimbabwe.....all deeply involved with China, either as an almost proxy state (N. Korea) in weapons sales, close diplomatic ties, oil production, or all of the above.....

I could go on, but you get the idea.

Simply put, the current regime in China is an ever-growing, ever more confident and aggressive fascist state (yes, I know, it is the Communist Party....nonetheless...) EVIL to the core. It needs to be stopped.

Colpy, why do you hate China so much? Is it because of Communism?

Based on historical events, you can't blame China for choosing Communism over any western ideologies during the early-mid 1900's.

Well, I did say it would take 1000 years.
And, there is nothing we can do about what they do,
unless they begin 'on' us.
Tell me what can be done through the united nations, nothing.
It's funny that you think it can be 'stopped'.
Who would ever stop them, do you think the u.s. should
start their foolishness re: IRAQ, in China?
Or should Canada take their few weapons and protest signs
and tip toe up and down their streets.

The spanking didn't even hurt. lol

China is no longer communist in any sense of the word........despite being ruled by the Communist Party........instead, China has developed into a giant fascist state....it has all the attributes. Tightly controled capitalism, persecution of the politically incorrect, top-down and intense nationalism, ...

As for why I dislike them....did you miss the post below?????

Here is what Amnesty Internaitonal says about China:

China
Head of state Hu Jintao
Head of government Wen Jiabao
Death penalty retentionist
Population 1,336.3 million
Life expectancy 72.5 years
Under-5 mortality (m/f) 24/34 per 1,000
Adult literacy 90.9 per cent

The Olympic Games in Beijing brought heightened repression throughout the country as authorities tightened control over human rights defenders, religious practitioners, ethnic minorities, lawyers and journalists. Following protests and unrest which began in March in Lhasa the government originally detained over 1,000 people. Hundreds remained in detention or were unaccounted for at year’s end. The authorities used a series of violent incidents alleged to be linked to terrorists to launch a sweeping crackdown on the Uighur population in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region (XUAR). Torture and other ill-treatment remained widespread. The authorities maintained tight control over the flow of information, with many internet websites blocked, and journalists and internet users harassed and imprisoned for the peaceful expression of opinions. The authorities made increased use of punitive forms of administrative detention, notably the Re-education through Labour system, to silence critics in the lead-up to the Olympic Games.

No offense, but your previous long post just seems like a rant with random numbers picked from the air to bolster your hatred...

If China is becoming a fascist state like you say, why does it matter? What China does with it's people is their business. What China becomes is their business. What does it have anything to do with you? Have we reached a level of self-righteousness as to dictate what other countries should and should not do? Why is that Americans and, to some extent, Canadians have this bad habit of sticking their noses where they don't belong. Is it supposed to create world peace or something because it's not working. It's actually creating the opposite effect... It's not longer safe to travel abroad as an American in a third world country and it's becoming like that for Canadians now.

If we are so self-righteous as to enforce our beliefs of Human Rights on other countries, why are North American companies allowed to go into China to exploit cheap labour? What about Africa? Ivory Coast? India? It seems to me that if a country has resources, we care, if not, we don't care anymore.

I can back up any of the numbers quoted below. Pick one, and ask.

Okay, the problem is China will not stat within its borders.....if you read the beginning of this thread, you will see that the current flap is over China threatening the democratic state of Taiwan. As well, China is extensively engaged with some of the worst human rights abusers on earth.....China is heavily involved in spying....

China should have been militarily contained and economically isolated decades ago......better late than never.

And, of course the u.s. doesn't spy at all right?, and as
we have learned from the iraq fiasco, even when they do
spy, they don't report the truth, hence, wmds in iraq?
'intelligence' is just another word for spying.
