It should have stayed down. The place has been overrun by right wing bigots and racists. I'm actually surprised that Andem resurrected the site.

I'd like to know what was wrong too. On the first outage I was getting nothing at all, just the little rotating icon that means the browser is waiting for a response, and it would eventually time out. I'd also noticed for a couple of days before that outage that the system was maddeningly slow. On the second outage I was getting messages saying the database had encountered an error. True no doubt, but like a lot of error messages, not very meaningful information.

I can happily report that the forums are now served over encrypted connections only: you can see that the URLs are now https:// instead of http://. And apologies it took so long.
