Not only that but with mass media these women now have to deal with death threats, rape threats, torment, character assisnation, and the world knowing your humiliation. Knowing that everyone knows what you went through and might be treating you differently because of it or not taking your ideas, thoughts, responses to things seriously because they think you're responding that way because of what happened. What a sh it way to have to live.

It took a lot of courage for those women to come forth.

It's kinda fallen off the media radar here. Is Spanky turning out to be a garden-variety criminal instead of the bleeding edge of the erotic avant-garde he seems to think himself to be?

Spanky is not doing so well, in fact he's been feeling a might punchy.

yep and it will never be understood by the majority of people the sacrifice these women have made by going forward.

Short term pain for long term gain maybe (if the bastard is taken off the street)

He's a "journalist/host" for the CBC. Who were the first to unadvisedly jump to his defense?

Why unadvisedly. No one believed her at first. Who cares what political leaning an individual has. Innocent is still innocent Wally regardless of leaning. I would hope that any employer would jump to the defense of their employee. Once they learned there was more to the story they backed off.

That does not make him an 'idol of the left.'

or automatically guilty

Ummm, I find it hard to believe that Western was able to figure it out quite a while ago, and the CBC couldn't.

It looks like they hung on to him for sometime, before they backed off.

Yeah but folks at Western have Phd's and stuff. Have you ever met anyone who worked for the CBC? I have, it wasn't pretty.

A couple of the freelancers. They were fairly decent folk. One was actually outstanding in his field, literally.

yeah I have to say that is disturbing in the extreme from an ethical standpoint, a professor telling a female student, no, you may not work for him because he did not think she would be safe...flirty was the term they used is disturbing but not over the top with young students

on the part of the CBC, that is a business decision that I really can't argue with although I would hope I personally would have made another decision you know what it's like...there is massive pressure to produce and he did...it's all about the green and they were clean because until someone comes forward and speaks out, no investigation can take place, if no investigation happens, his actions never happened

sucks on one level, that's the law, it's black and white

unfortunately there are many shades of grey

Making this a left - right issue is BS.
Unadvisedly jump to his defense?
Well here goes -People who knew him, people that were waiting for more information before running him off the top of a very high building.
Many people were surprised at his firing, as was I. I knew he was popular, but was not aware he was carried by so many stations.

Then the facts start flowing.

I don't know Sal, I have an issue with the fact that a university pretty much bans internships with a specific production, and there's no need for an investigation at the CBC.

I don't think they're as clean as they'd like to be.

Not the same thing. I worked beside the CBC on Sparks Street in Ottawa. They are like the silly servants except more flip flops.

I have to say, what was suggested by the prof to the students was probably not an official position of the university and likely based on rumours. Even university professors need to worry about liability issues. Often there is an unspoken understanding amongst the workers in the trenches that the big brass aren't aware of.

Why am I not surprised, lol.

It may very well been based on rumours. But someone, somewhere has to notice the lack of applications for open internships, from a premier school.

Stuff like that doesn't dry up for no reason.

So the powers that be at the CBC are either inept, or complicit.

I bet dollars to donuts that there are some nervous nellies in management at this moment.
It is becoming highly likely that his workplace behavior crossed the line. And on more than 1 occasion. For a University to have this 4 years prior knowledge, well I will increase the bet this information was passed to CBC management. May have been written, bit could have been verbal. They would be seen as protecting a money maker at the expense of employees be abused. Must have decided on the money maker.
If so, and if reported and swept away. Well some huge settlements could be coming.

One guy who always wore socks with sandals and followed me around a bit. Creepy.

Sure, sure. I'm not defending the CBC or anything. Just pointing out how that more than likely all began. You see it all the time in large companies. If you're the president of the company and you want to know which one your sales men is a lecherous creep, ask the ladies in the front office cuz they'll know.
