It's not over yet.. The police have indicated that they are prepared to open an investigation (pending the formal complaints being levied).

PS - Jian's high-powered PR firm (Navigator) has dropped him... Not a positive circumstance for JG

Someone mentioned optics. It's not about that. There weren't any optics until he went public after his firing. It's about complaints by employees of alleged inappropriate conduct at work, not about what he did in his own bedroom.

Maybe he is what he is, not something you can turn on at 8 and off at 5. :)

The media is starting to eat itself with this story now. Time to move on.

If he's harmed people, it's pretty hard to "move on"!

I just got to thinking C.B.C. waited until a couple of days after his Dad died to lower the boom! I doubt if that was any coincidence!

I just got to thinking, after reading several articles on the topic, that CBC or someone in a position to intervene, knew this guy had problems for quite awhile. Referring to one's workplace as a 'toxic environment' surely shows a knowledge of dark doings.

The CBC does not come out of this with their noses clean by any means. Hey.............maybe this will mean a major shake-up. Can't see that as a bad thing considering what this bunch has done to the CBC.

Bwaaahahahaha!!!

The public stuff is window dressing on this story. The CBC was dealing with workplace complaints.
I wouldn't call the public stuff window dressing, that could be costly to the CBC's bottom line as could the work place stuff.

The workplace is a very complicated place. Everyone is quick to claim their rights and nearly every one has some form of toxic environment. Management can't just march around playing with people's careers. Situations like this are dealt with carefully. There is a lot to consider. In the end they appear to have done the right thing. It might not be over for Jian but it should be over for them.

One thing is for sure, the CBC would have consulted their lawyers and gotten the green light from them before letting him go.

Jian Ghomeshi may have lost the last chip he had to play in his defence | Financial Post
Jian Ghomeshi played a high risk, high stakes game. And he lost almost all of it. Now he could lose what may be the last chip he has left to play in his defence — the backing of his union.

By getting out last Sunday ahead of the news breaking about his alleged violence and harassment against women, Ghomeshi had the opportunity to shape the narrative, all in the legally privileged, libel-proof form of a statement of claim that viciously attacked the CBC.

It was a legally ill-founded claim (since a unionized employee like Ghomeshi has no standing to sue an employer). But it would also have had the impact of scaring off potential complainants who might be intimidated by Ghomeshi’s aggressive litigiousness, not to mention the prospect of being outed — truthfully or not — in his version of events as willing BDSM participants.

But the gamble didn’t pay off. More accusers defiantly stepped forward, his left-wing supporters like Judy Rebick and Elizabeth May scattered for cover, the social media dialogue turned against him, and now he finds himself abandoned even by his crisis-PR firm, Navigator — a sure sign that worse is coming.

Ghomeshi is represented by the Canadian Media Guild (CMG), which has a history of prioritizing respectful workplace environments. If his allegedly victimized CBC co-workers — who are also unionized — or the guild’s political supporters outside of the corporation complain that their interests are being ignored or even violated (by the union supporting an alleged abuser and harasser), the union has the right to refuse to take his case any further.

Can a union do that? Absolutely. Its only obligation to Ghomeshi is to not act arbitrarily, discriminatorily or in bad faith toward him. If the union makes a reasoned decision that Ghomeshi is toxic, and that representing him does not do justice to its other members, its own principles, or its pocketbook (the arbitration will be very expensive), it can drop him with impunity.

You'd sure as f**K hope so. It's quickly becoming evident that this creep is guilty as accused IF these women who are coming forward are telling the truth. IF it is, as it's starting to appear, no reputable Union is going to back him. Ship the Ckskr back to Iran.
