It was $16.5 million in 2005, I don't know whethor it is down these past years or not. Maybe to some people $10 or 16.5 million doesn't sound like much, but to communities who still remain in seasonal employment areas I don't think we can have an appreciation for what those extra dollars mean.

Just the other day there was a thread about the economic status of Canada. Some areas are booming, others aren't. Until someone can show me their numbers where they say it's unsustainable, or that current management plans are inadequate, I'll continue to support the fishery in an area and manner that meets those needs within the limits set by professionals.

Every Jack and Jill with an extra two cents in their pocket knows what is best.

We are the only large animal in abundance then that's not subject to the same thinking we impose on all the others. I guess...we're special. We should share and not simply dominate the rest of the natural world.

If you don't think humans are subject to population control and culling, I suggest you visit a planned parenthood clinic some day, or go visit a country with limits on the sizes of their families. We attempt to control our population, we even attempt to control the population of other countries through education programs.

Karrie, so how would such anemic control programs compare to what humans impose on other species? You're rationalizing.

Rationalizing implies that I am being rational, and I'd have to agree, despite your attempt to use it discredit my argument. Considering that the birth rate in Canada has dropped to a rate where we are no longer replacing ourselves, yet the seal population has proven able to replace itself, I'd have to say our population control is moreso than what we impose on other species. The numbers speak for themselves in that respect.
