I guess last night the weather wasn't as "scorching" (acc. the that reviewer) as it was at the Miami show, but I see Kris had the long sleeves back (not the other guys, though). He must not get hot. He's pretty thin, for one thing. Anyhow, you know what? This has been the hottest summer ever, in the south, I think. It might have been the hottest one, here, I don't know. July was unbelievable, anyhow.

@KrisAllen WE DON’T DO FLANNEL IN GEORGIA IN AUGUST DO YOU HAVE A DEATH WISH?

So I guess Kris is "hosting" a concert today in Louisville, Kentucky, starring Archie, but not performing. That's where he auditioned for Idol, wasn't it?

Here he is at the event:

Yup. I linked to them, too. lol!

The hosting thing was weird. But, whatever. He hung out with radio peeps and other artist.

Adam did some of that hosting during the Jingle Balls, didn't he? I think it's just a last minute thing they do for some extra exposure. At least people who went will be talking about him tonight. (Enlarge the pic to @200% or 400% and you can see everyone taking Kris's picture.) Kris said earlier that he wasn't allowed to perform. Did you read girlygirl's speculation about it? Probably one of those "no compete" clauses, since he's performing close by with Maroon 5? That might be the reason.

Adam got a good review in the Boston Herald for his show in this area. Unfortunately, there is a comments section.

While on that website, I also noticed this negative review for the IIHY video. Unfortunately, there is a comments section.

You did, didn't you? LOL - well they're so nice we can check them twice.

Holy crap with the comments. Calm down kiddies. It's just a video and I love the comments on Adam's perfomances. They crazy. He's the glamiest, rockiest, rock god ever. I like him and his music and it makes me want to hit my head against a brick wall.

Remember when Kris wrote with Kate?

after just watching this, NGL it kinda scares me a little, lol

Okay, what scared you about that other than Josh Ramsay's lack of a chin?

(Despite what I said recently about not approving of mocking people for their looks, I think celebrities were put on earth partly so that we could laugh at them, so they are exempt from this rule and I reserve the right to pick them apart at will.)

A little meeting and greeting.

Other than the fact that they sound horrific? Why nothing at all.

So noted and I might join you - but I will frown harshly at both of us!

Hahaha! I know. I can't imagine how she would sound dueting with Kris. Or maybe I can. Which is probably why it's now locked in a vault someplace. Who is she, anyhow? I keep forgetting.

I just posted something on MJ's. It's something I've been thinking about a lot lately.

What I've been thinking about: Idol winners, as celebrities, are supposed to get a lot of media attention. I thought Kris would get a lot, for various reasons. It seemed like a given. But a year has gone by, and while he got some, he didn't get a lot. But then, he never sought it, either. A lot of musicians don't. And they do just great without it.

This ran through my mind after I posted something in the headlines thread the other day. As often happens, before long, whatever the discussion was, it was derailed by CindyM and her cohorts and became all about why Kris isn't playing larger venues than The Social in Orlando, and whether it was SOLD OUT or not. Not that opening for Keith Urban and Maroon 5 in front of many thousands and getting their approval was ever mentioned. Because that would be something positive.

And the phrase that kept running through my mind was: "There's more than one way to skin a cat." In other words, the way Adam is handling his career is right for Adam, I guess, but isn't the way Kris is handling his career right for Kris? At the moment?

Anyhow, using my phrase, this is the post I did over on MJ's. Sorry, it's kind of a book.
And the more he has opening reaction like last night, the more the regular media can’t ignore how good he really is.
That would be good, but if it doesn’t happen maybe it won’t matter.

I’ve been watching him for a year and the way I feel is that Kris is a singer, musician, performer, etc., But he’s not a celebrity by choice. If it wasn’t about his music, it would be about nothing. He wouldn’t be in the public eye at all. He’s not a celebrity for the sake of being a celebrity.

I’m pretty sure he’s not interested in attention for anything other than his music and performances. I don’t know whether the media will ever pay all that much attention to him. I’m not sure it’s necessary. There’s more than one way to skin a cat.

There are musicians like Lady Gaga or Adam who are adored by the media for various reasons. The media loves them and they love the media. But most successful musicians don’t get a whole lot of what I think of as media attention. They aren’t necessarily on Entertainment Tonight or in the news much. Mainly they’re on the radio, or you see their videos or go to their concerts.

So I think Kris will just be that kind of musician, and I’m counting mainly on people discovering him, on positive word of mouth, and on all the exposure he’s getting on a sort of grass roots level (all the appearances, interviews, radio station events, concerts), as well as his recordings and videos. That’s where he will get all his attention, I think – at least for now.

It seems Kris will really open for Lifehouse on some dates this fall, even well into November. A pretty good match, I guess. But I guess I wouldn't really be tempted to buy tickets for that, because I bought Lifehouse's most recent album on a whim when it came out and it is so so so boring. After a few listens, I still couldn't distinguish the songs, so I pretty much stopped listening to it. Heh.

More info about Johnny Ballgame, if you haven't seen it:

That's kind of cool. It's nice of him to show support for his local peeps.

And the phrase that kept running through my mind was: "There's more than one way to skin a cat." In other words, the way Adam is handling his career is right for Adam, I guess, but isn't the way Kris is handling his career right for Kris? At the moment?

Exactly. I agree. Take a look at this article - it's an interview with James Valentine of Maroon 5 - Ryland's friend.

Q&A with Maroon 5 Guitarist James Valentine, Playing Bayfront Amphitheater Today - Miami Music - Crossfade

It just shows you that making connections are really important in the music business (any business really I guess) James played in Reel Big Fish, knows Ryland, knows John Mayer, clearly knows Maroon 5, Lifehouse toured with Chris Daughtry, GRO toured with David Cook. All of these people have impacted on Kris's tour.. along with probably tons more. I think building the ground support by touring with others is career building and really important. Adam's going another way and he's able to do headling dates right now, which is right for him. It wouldn't necessarily be right for Kris and that's okay. And Kris will never seek out the headlines. You're right.

The lifehouse tour makes sense, especially when you add in the heart eyes the Lifehouse guy had for Kris and band at that radio show. He looked legitimately impresssed. Which is nice, cause you kinda want that. :) I can't say I'm a huge Lifehouse fan, but usually if I hear them on the radio I like them, then kind of forget about them. BUT - Right now I'd be tempted if it was Justin Gaston and Kris touring here.. lol.

Thanks for the Lifehouse info, missaddicted.

What I've heard of Lifehouse, I have to say I agree with both of you. And I have to wonder, will people who love Lifehouse necessarily love Kris? I don't know. I guess I'm happy he's opening for them because they're not cheesy, and I'd say they're on the artistic end of the pop spectrum. They're a respected, pretty big name with several albums and a following. So - pretty good.

Yes, it's six degrees of Kris Allen. I totally agree with it and I usually forget all about the connections and that side of the business. If Kris were out now on his own little headlining tour with the same opener for weeks and weeks, he would meet so few influential people and learn much less. And the connections he makes now can't be underestimated. Good point!

And thanks for linking to that interview, it was good.

Well, they know how to make me feel bad that I said their album is boring!

(I love the song Everything though, especially the new version they put on that latest album, that song is beautiful!)

Wait, is this that guy who should sing in coffeehouses because he just doesn't have a very strong voice, or presence?

Hahahahahahahaha!!!

I love how he changes the notes but he always sings the right - different - notes. I don't know how he does that.
