I still think Kris needs to put the guitar down during CSA.

Hey, wait a minute. I thought you said that it didn't matter to you. (Quite a while ago, but I seem to remember.)

I think a lot about Hedley and I think they're a good model. Kris is basically doing what they did -- actually, his gigs are probably a bit bigger. But they did everything he's doing -- radio sponsored gigs, acoustic gigs (usually the whole band, but sometimes just Jacob and Dave), going far and wide -- often, places other people don't go to a lot.

I totally agree. And In fact these performances are really important - big and small. Because not only do they meet fans, and gain fans, they also help promote their music to radio which is really vital. There are so many reasons these shows are a good idea. And if they do the legwork that they are doing right now, then it's more likely that the public & radio peeps don't feel like Kris was handed this chance instead of really working for it. No matter what people say about Hedley -- there is no denying that they worked their butts off to get to where they are. I think it's a good thing for the public to see them working for it.

I'm pretty sure that was me!!

So next week's theme is really Billboard #1s. I wonder what happened with Teen Idols? Not that it was a good idea to begin with. And they have a mentor and it has to stay a secret.

I agreed with a lot of things Slezak and Dawnie said, but I disagreed with a few. Mostly regarding Paige. She's just not interesting and she sucked during the three semifinals weeks. She shouldn't have been there instead of Katelyn or Lilly.

I don't have a favorite this season really. I like a few of them, but not to the point I liked Cook and Kris while they were on the show, far from that. I wanted to really really like Lee, but he's not delivering enough for that to happen at this point. I have a bunch of Crystal's pre-Idol songs on my computer and I haven't even listened to them yet. I like Didi as well, and with the right songs I think she could do great, but she kind of bugs me for some reason and I'm not sold on her yet either.

ETA: And I'm not even aware of the "gay hat" incident. Not that I necessarily want to know what happened.

Did I? I was so, so wrong. Drop it Kris.
I stopped watching him perform CSA when he added the guitar. It frustrated me to watch it so I stopped altogether. But I only think he did it without the guitar originally because he hadn't yet learned it on guitar. It was a fluke that it happened to be better that way. He did The Truth without the guitar last time. Interesting. Not the same, of course.

It was you, but SleepinIn agreed with you, I believe! Anyhow, the performance loses its cool factor and a lot of enery when he can't move around.

See SleepinIn's link to Charles Browder above. It's a very short video where Kris is wearing his beanie and CB says it's a gay hat.

Now if we can just get Kris to take his shirt off, pull his pants down, and sing RATM, who knows what the possibilities would be?

LOL! We'll work up to that. Start with the guitar.

And yeah, I don't like anyone as much as Kris. Or David. (Which is probably a really good thing for me personally). No one has really delivered a knock out performance yet. Not even Crystal no matter how good she is.

I don't know why people keep expecting Lee to be a "rocker," by the way. He seems to be mellower than that.

About "gay hat" -- I didn't actually see where things exploded. Was it that big a deal? I only saw a few comments on MJ's blog, and those were by the usual farts.

Yeah, I agree, LOL. We can watch and enjoy without all the stress!

Exactly. I said last week that I wanted someone to come up with a "moment" in the first two weeks of the finals before the season would start to bore me a it. Mike almost had one on top 16 week (I don't think he quite did, but that's IMO, of course) and Siobhan came close this week, but both performances were polarizing. Not something that everyone (or almost) went "wow" for. Time is ticking, contestants, bring some excitement into this season!

Mainly twitter exploded, as it tends to do. And yep, probably the same 5 people reposting things ad nauseum.

these radio contest videos are really cute.

Actually there are now people on MJ's blog who are trying to make it like Kris cannot associate with Charles now, and something about Charles making a prejudiced remark about Obama. I wrote some response, I don't know what. I was quite annoyed. I mean, isn't it strange that no matter how close Kris has been to Adam, for instance, people always try to make him out to be a gay-hater? Why? Now they seem to be implying race prejudice, too. I mean, don't Charles and Kris have a good friend who's black? How many pix of Kris holdong that Haitian girl, or with the fans in Asia, or all his missionary work, does it take to convince people he's not a racist? God, I ****ing hate those people now.

[The fact is, the forums are full of women who are always making a big deal about stuff like this, having no idea how guys even talk to each other, apparently. Not you two, thank God. I mean, all my (male) friends talk exactly like that "gay hat" stuff, and a couple are even gay and they would just laugh at anything like that. It's just goofing around.]

Blog by Kalan:

What in the Hell is Taking So Long?

Okay...
So there's no big drama.
No legal gag order.
I am not leaving clues in tweets and blogs. Though I did enjoy some of your recent interpretations.
I guess I haven't said alot lately because I just haven't known what to tell you.
There ARE some major legal issues with one of the producers I was working with that have certainly delayed things significantly.
But its easy to throw blame on other people. Labels, producers, lawyers. whatever.
What it really comes down to is me.
The real reason this record is taking so long is its simply not good enough yet.
Idol provided me with massive opportunities. But what it didn't allow for was my progression and growth in a natural organic way.
So I've basically spent the last few years trying to figure out who I am as a songwriter musician and artist... whatever that means
Its literally been a process of throwing different **** at the wall and seeing what sticks. And believe me... I've thrown a bunch of ****.
But the good news is the **** is beginning to stick!
And slowly but surely my **** masterpiece is coming together.
I can't give you an exact timeline because I'm not sure myself.
There are many pieces of the puzzle that have to fall into place in the next couple of months. So until all of that happens I won't know many specifics.
But I can guarantee you that when the record comes out it WILL be great.
Well... I'll like it.
I wanna thank you again for your patience...
For sticking by me for so long...
You guys see something in me that I often times don't see myself.
So thank you.
I promise I won't leave you hangin.
Pinky swear.

Unusual for Kalan to finally say a few things. He's very private. If he doesn't want to reveal anything personal, that's his business, but he doesn't often reval anything professional, or artistic, either (or very little), so what's left? Fans can get frustrated, plus, how do you make any new ones if you're so closed off, not even vlogging a few songs, or even covers, once in a while? I used to be kind of a big fan of Kalan, and I still like him, but it's a a lot like a friend who you never see or hear from.

Sony is weird, they seem to be keeping Mookie under wraps for some reason. If you sign people, can you promote them, let them go out and perform somewhere, even if it's open mic nights? It's almost like they sign people like Mookie just to keep other people from doing it, not becuase they have plans for the artist. I guess I don't get it.

Concert review from the MJ's blog:

I’ve been a stalker here for a long time, just now had a reason to comment. Kris was awesome. Very funny and had some great moves! Very bouncy, as was Cale and even Andrew & Chris. A while back someone commented about how different and so great Kris sounds in person, and they were so right. His voice is very strong and clear. Falsettos spot on, and harmonies were gorgeous. Getting the girls up to do AWM was the best. Loved the group hug. One of his 1st comments was “Glad to be back in the South!” Said he had family there, think it’s his grandmother, and he said he’d be back. But can’t decide which song I liked best. Is It Over was too much…Andrew and Cale had a jam session that was un-be-lievable. Glad he did Falling Slowly Mashup, had some changes at the end with harmonies to die for.
I think most of the crowd was there to see Kris. Some left after his set. The “video police” were relentless. I got caught twice, but managed not to get kicked out…one guy did. But One Republic were kick-ass! And gave a great shout-out to Kris. All the band guys, but Kris (he might have been hiding in the backgound), hung around on the edge of the stage to watch One Republic. One time they tried to walk out towards the audience to watch, but guess it didn’t work cause they came back
.

Someone on MJ's posted this due to the freaks saying, you know, that crap. It's nothing new so I'm not sure it's interesting, but I guess I never heard before how Adam and Kris became roommates, so that was a little interesting.

Dare I say: gay hat? (On Boy George.) Now that is one gay hat.

Just reading some charts. The popularity of FYE (the song) in Canada mystifies me. I mean, what mystifies me is: do you think there is that big a difference in the music tastes of Canadian and Americans? Since the song went to radio here and dropped like a stone. I guess that's my question. Is it musical taste or something else. I doubt it can be answered.

Changing gears for a moment, someone on MJ's got tickets to Keith Urban (a show that was supposed to include Kris) and Kris's name is not on the tickets. So they are just going to wait and see.

I wish someone would just make a phone call to one of these venues and straighten out whether Kris is opening for Keith U. or not. I mean, the info must be available somehow. I probably should do it.

PS: Kris has been removed from one of Keith's shows on Keith's website.

Keith Urban :: New News Today!

It was the Iowa show, I believe. This is all so weird. Do you think the reason is because Kris had to get on some bigger tour? Curious--anyone care to speculate?

I beleive the tickets the person on MJ's got were for Iowa.

Yeah, the gay hat thing, I just took it as a guys teasing guys thing.
It's not that big a deal.

I'm really interested in what Kalan is doing right now, and I haven't been (probably since he won) he just seems to know what he wants right now. That intrigues me. But I totally agree with you - What is up with Sony? Let those people do gigs, even if they are really small gigs. They need the experience.

But I totally agree the radio silence thing is not a good idea in this day and age.

Loved the review.. and I agree those Falling Slowly harmonies were crazy good.

That's a nice video with Kris and Adam talking about each other. Mutual respect. Very cool.

Oh, Adam and Boy George and their hats. I wonder if they called each other first? I had a friend who was Boy George for Halloween one year. She didn't actually have to dress up that much :) Just wore a coat and a Hat.

Canadian's love for FYE? Probably the overreaction from the US at the AMA's. I think that performance scared a lot of stations away from playing it. As a dance song it works. If the radio in the US had played it I think it would have done better, just from watching MOD, the audience loved it when they knew the song. I'm not a huge fan of the song but it is catchy, and I'd totally sing along to it.

The Detroit radio station tweeted that they are streaming the concert tonight here.

Amp Live - LIVE - Detroit's NEW 98.7 AMP Radio

Kris/Keith.

Ugh, I hope it still happens. I'm not really a Keith Urban fan but they sounded great together at the finale and probably have a similar sound and vibe and I think they would work in concert together. That being said supporting acts get moved around all the time. If you're not the headliner there's no real guarantees that you'll be there I think.

I think Kris's team is just trying to put together the right things for him. But scheduling things happen.

There's buzz at Pulse about the Truth being the next single. I know it's not a fave of either of you guys, but I love it too. I probably wouldn't have picked it next but I still love it.

(but who knows if that person buzzing knows anything)

Ugh. The Truth. My main problem with it though, aside from the fact that I don't really like it, it's that Kris DIDN'T write it. I hate 19. I hope Cook has co-writes on ALL the songs on his next album so that they have to choose a song that he wrote as a single.

Why not AWM? It's so catchy! Gah, if they really chose The Truth, it'll be "Come Back to Me" all over for me. I think a song like AWM might have had a better chance to play on the top 40 station I listen to, because of its pop/catchy side. They never played LLWD, and I know that they wouldn't play a song like The Truth.
