Sorry, the sound is a bit out of synch there. Anyhow, that's how you sing that song. Or, at least one good way.

I didn't think Paige was so horrible. Her voice sounded shaky, but she seemed to feel the song. In fact, her voice sounding shaky actually worked on this song. But she wasn't great, and she's not going to win, and she needs to go home.

I miss Kris, I miss Matt. I miss Allison. I miss Adam. I even miss Scott. Wait. Not really.

#7. Crystal

Is anyone else wondering where this chick has been or why she doesn't have a record contract? It's not just that she's good, she's so polished. It's like she's a plant. I don't get it.

Thank you, Didi. That was beautiful, and what's nice about it to me is that I don't like that song and I don't like Stevie Nicks as a singer. But I loved that vocal and that arrangement. So I liked Rhiannon for the first time ever.

I don't think I've even ever heard the original! But, yeah, that was really good. Finally, Didi delivers! Lucky for her, because she would've been a goner otherwise.

Ellen says: even if you win this competition you still have to put up with criticism (and you have to be tough). I thought of Kris. Did anybody else?

I thought that you would think of Kris, LOL. That's really what I thought about!! But yeah, for sure it applies, but really, it applies to most people performing or doing something in the public eye. You do have to be tough for that I believe.

Paige was just really bad. She usually puts me to sleep, but that was pretty awful. She almost cried though, so maybe she'll get sympathy votes.

Yes, it is a tough, mean business, as well as being tough to be under public scrutiny. I think Kris is seriously a strong character. I thought of him because of all the crap he has had to put up with this past year and how he deals with it -- by being focused. Focused on what he wants to do, and on being thankful, etc. He's just pretty cool in that way (among other ways).

#8. Lilly.

I didn't really love that, but she's probably the most interesting good singer on the show. Crystal is very, very solid, but not really so terribly original. They sort of balance each other out.

I knew Simon would say what he said. He was right if you think "the wow factor" is really important, which I'm not sure it is.

I *heart* Crystal.

That's all!

My problem with Lilly is that I want to like her more than I actually do. I like her voice (most of the time), her quirky side, her unique style (not the earrings though, lol!), but I just wouldn't buy anything that she's done in the last three weeks. She's interesting for sure, but she's not really holding my interest that much at this point.

My top 3 for tonight: Crystal, Didi and Siobhan.

I'd say bye bye to Lacey for sure, and one of Katie and Paige. I hope Katelyn has another shot.

Oh, yeah! I agree completely.

Maybe not the original, but I think you probably heard Stevie sing it with Taylor Swift on the Grammys.

Oh, that's what they sang? I think I erased it from my memory right away, it was so awful.

Eeep! I had to stop that in the middle. Was that Stevie Nicks singing? I thought she was supposed to be a great singer? She sounded pretty bad on that.

I wish I could *heart* Crystal. I think she's an amazing singer but I don't get much from her. She's very self-posessed and she seems polite enough, but she's a little like Adam, for me. Like, where are the nerves? Where is the "Omg I can't believe I made it through."? It's a little like an "I don't really need any of you" vibe. It's not bitchy or cold or anything, it's just like a cool confidence. I find it very, very, very slightly off-putting.

Thank you! I think she's a horrible singer. She was a good songwriter, though, I can't deny it.

It's crazy but I'm actually looking forward to the theme weeks. I want to know what some of the contestants who have pretty definite styles (like Crystal and Lilly) are going to do. As long as TPTB pick good themes... which I'm not betting on.

This is where AI actually works against some people. If they have a kind of narrowly defined style, they either crash and burn trying to go outside their style, or they just pick songs that suit their style regardless of the theme week, which is uninteresting.

For instance, I usually don't try to predict anything, but I tend to see Crystal choosing songs that allow her to do the same bluesy style all the time, regardless of the theme. I'm torn between thinking this is the right approach, because, after all, if you already know exactly who you are as an artist, why do you need to try to be different? -- or the wrong approach, because it gets boring never to see anybody stretch a lot, or be creative, because of the nature of the show. The trick is probably to be the kind of singer, like Kris, or David Cook, who knows who he is as an artist, but at the same time is a creative artist, who feels comfortable changing it up all the time.

I think Lilly for instance could have the same problem, and that's why I named both of them in my post. I'm actually curious about how it will turn out, because I do agree with you that it could get boring and that it's not necessarily what's more interesting to watch on AI. I'm giving both Lilly and Crystal the benefit of the doubt though. Both of them are strong musicians I believe and I'm hoping that both can change things around... It's true that both have been kind of doing the same thing in the last three weeks, but for now, I actually prefer that to a contestant like Katie or Paige who have obviously no clue what they're doing.

MCL likes Lilly Scott.

MasterclassLady.Com

I think I see Lilly as having a less defined style. I can see her adapting a bit more to theme nights, since I think she's more the type to take various songs in various styles and give them interesting twists. I think she's already done that. I'd have to look over her selections to jog my memory, but while Crystal has selected predictable songs for her style, Lilly (for instance) just sang a country song by Patsy Cline -- a country song from the 1950's -- playing a ukelele. So I think she's a natural for creative selections on theme nights.

SleepinIn, jump in anytime. :)

I'm kind of busy voting, here.

For me, the top 3 girls all along have been Crystal, Lilly, and Didi. Not in that order, necessarily.

I agree with Crystal, Siobhan and Didi being the top 3. I think the 4th will be Lilly.

I'm here, I'm here. Just had to see the end of Lost. EEP!

Okay here are my notes...

My first thought was judges panel stop talking, we're on a clock here people. :)

Katie - I had the same thought that was mentioned.. ENOUGH with the Kelly Clarkson. I love Kelly, everyone loves Kelly, who doesn't like Kelly? The problem with singing Kelly on Idol is that it's almost impossible to find an Idol fan that hasn't heard of Kelly or her songs, so everyone will directly compare her to Kelly. So Katie proved she wasn't Kelly. Awesome. <--- sarcasm. Katie is really showing her inexperience, there was just a lack of energy and I agree it seemed like a performance that could have happened 4 seasons ago. It just wasn't enough. (plus sounded kind of bad)

Siobahn : I loved it. I actually want to buy it, Siobhan is quirky, and kinda raw and goofy (but yes, really distracting shiny lipgloss)

Lacey: I liked the shound of this - for the first time I liked Lacey's singing. But man, did that look really, really awkward on tv. I just think she's out of her league on this show. Simon (I think?) said she knew where the camera was.. um, yeah she almost crawled through it. Awk-ward.

Caitlyn: Weird song choice, it came over really old fashioned to me.

Didi : Taylor swift-like with good live singing. :) I liked it, kinda slow, but good.

Paige: First time I've liked Paige or remembered what she sang. #truefax But it was ultimately, kinda forgetable. Paige did show some personality in the Ryan interview so that was welcome.

Crystal : Crystal and Tracy Chapman? How could that be anything less than awesome. Answer for me is - it can't. Bit of star power there.

Lilly Scott: Weird earring girl. Take the dryer lint out of your ears (I can be mean too!) Good performance though.

Going Home: Katie, Lacey, Caitlyn or Paige. (don't care which two go)

It's funny though you guys were talking theme nights and that's exactly what I was thinking when Crystal was singing - well that and there are an awful lot of singer songwriter type girls on the show - I wonder how these girls will do on the theme nights? That's a great question. How will they maintain their own style and yet deal with weird themes.

Glam night anyone?
