Okay, so I got into a slight kerfuffle on mj's blog with someone who said if Kris doesn't want to promote himself he can go back to being in a garage band. I should ignore this stuff. But anyway...
Kris does promote himself, he wasn't in a garage band, and, besides, the poster was twisting something someone originally said about Kris, that was complementary, into a negative.
About the first two points: As far as I know, Kris wasn't "in a band," pre-Idol, garage or non-garage. Someone else posted saying he was in a band, because his wikipedia article states that the two guys who played on BNS were his "bandmates." And in his pre-Idol gigs he didn't play solo, and had a band playing with him.
I said I'm sure he had a backup band (not all the time) but that he was more of a singer-songwriter, not a frontman for an actual band he was "in." *
As far as promoting himself, I think it's obvious how hard he works at that.
So my question is: as far as you guys know, was Kris ever "in a band," in the usual sense? And my other question (or request) is: if you want to read the discussion over there, can you let me know what you think? (It's in the Disney World thread-- you have to look under "older entries.") I'm interested in your opinions. TIA
* I was originally annoyed by the garage band comment just because it wasn't accurate. If Kris was in a garage band I'd have no problem with it, but he wasn't. He doesn't even play that kind of music. Also, I felt the person was using the term negatively (though I personally don't think it's a negative term), as a lot of people do. As if to say Kris had no serious musical ambitions pre-Idol, and just got lucky. A common theme of the haters.
