I wonder how Jason Castro was tonight? Wonder if he had a band for the Jingle Ball? I'm assuming when he plays the show in Boston it'll be just him and his guitar -- or maybe (probably) one other guy, also on guitar and maybe other instruments.

So what makes you dislike Lifetime? The melody? The lyrics? The performance? The arrangement? All of the above?

Yeah, all of the above. Can't explain it really. It just doesn't speak to me. It might be a different story live but I'm not betting on it.

Oh, the first video was removed when I saw it, so thanks for posting the second one! Live RED GUITAR!!!! Can't wait. It's totally my favorite from the album.

(Lifetime is completely at the bottom for me as well. I like it even less than The Truth. Can't really explain either. The first few notes start and my finger automatically presses the skip button on my iPod. It's like a Pavlovian response.)

I like Kris with or without the guitar and think he can engage the audience whatever he does. So I'm feeling fine with whatever he chooses to do.

I was in a record store today, another branch of Newbury Comics, not the one I usually go to. Couldn't find Kris's CD anywhere -- or Adam's, either. I looked in the "new releases" display, and in the A's. Finally I asked a guy if they had Kris Allen's CD. "Who?' he said. "Kris Allen." "I'll check." (He went to the computer.) "What was the name again?" "Kris Allen." "Allen?" (he was drawing a blank.) "Yeah. Kris Allen." "Okay. Um. I don't recognize the name. Who is he?" "The American Idol winner." "Oh. Oh. Oh, yeah." (He looked at the computer screen again.) "I'm not really finding anything. Um, Chris...?" "Kris. With a K." "With a K? Oh. Oh, yeah. Here it is. Self titiled?" "Yeah." "Says here we have seven. Good. Now we just have to find him...follow me....he should be in the A's, but we probably haven't made a card for him yet..." (I followed him to the A's) "Here he is. We haven't made a card so he's here on top."

The CDs were in a display slot at the top of the shelf. They were for sale for 15.99. After a while I went searching for Adam's and there were about four of his, also on the top shelf, only in the L section, of course. (I guess I should have asked the record store guy for that one, to find out if he recognized Adam's name or not.) Adam's CDs was 13.99. There was also his "other" album displayed next to it. (And in the B section there were, like, dozens of Susan Boyle CDs. As well as plenty in the "Best Sellers" section. I don't know how many were shipped but they didn't seem to be selling like hotcakes.)

So that's my story.

Want my CD tale?

I was in HMV today and Kris was eye level - there were about 4 CD's on the shelf. Adam was at the bottom of the shelf and there were more. .. probably about 8 or 9.

Adam also had a slot over by Susan Boyle, and that was full. There was no rush on the album that I could see. (way more product available for sale) Susan had like a row to herself, lol. (I think Adam and Kris were priced the same at $13.99)

(My Dad was lamenting her lack of airplay.. seriously? Seriously? lmao -- "she has the #1 album yet they don't play her on the radio..." So that's who bought her album.. my parents -- they're going to be spamming radio stations next.. just you wait) :) They are also anticipating her tv special *hangs head*

My CD story makes me understand better why Kris's nickname on VFTW is "Who".

Strange, isn't it? Because during the AI8 season, it was more or less that same. I went into the record store (FYE) that used to be across the street from where I live, and the manager, Noel, an Idol fan, was all "Danny Gokey is probably going to win it all." and "A lot of people like this Adam guy but I'm not sold on him yet." and "Lil could end up doing really well." And I said, "I really like Kris." Noel: "Kris?" Me: "Kris Allen." "Who?" Etc. That was basically the response I always got whenever I mentioned Kris to anyone. And even when I described him, or what he sang, most of the time the people just stood there trying really hard to picture him.

Haha. Of course, after he won, I never really expected that to continue!! I'm pretty sure if I walked into that same Newbury Comics store last year, and asked for the David Cook CD or the David Archuleta CD, that same guy probably would have been familiar with their names, anyhow.

Was Adam's other CD available at your HMV?

At least they aren't Glamberts! There's that to be thankful for.

Nope, haven't seen that one anywhere... except like Amazon or itunes. No physical copies though.

I can understand the who thing with Kris, because truthfully it was much the same with me until I became obsessed with the guy. I went back to re-watch the season since I didn't remember his early stuff at all. For me Kris is forgettable until you can't forget him at all. I don't know if that makes sense.. so I've never been that surprised by people saying that they don't remember him. His very nature is low key and Adam was such an overwhelming presence in the media this year it stands to reason that people don't remember much about Kris.

People don't really know how good Kris is yet. They know he won, they know Adam got all the press so they think it was this grand conspiracy. Kris and AT&T out to steal the Idol crown. I know I'm preaching to the choir at this point, but the media really has no idea how good he really is.

*gets down off soapbox*

Maybe, if they even go that deep into it. I think the only people who think that AT&T stuff isn't ridiculious are the nuts who post under articles and who are usually named Vicki. lol

I've been thinking about Kris talking about being "cast" by the show as the ... I don't remember what he said. Guy next door, nice quiet guy, something like that. He said it in reply to someone asking about how he seems to be showing other sides of himself now.

What I meant to say in my last post was that most of the reason nobody could remember Kris during the season (and it carries over to now) is that the show made that happen. It's really not Kris. We know the ways the show made it happen. And the way the show made Adam or Danny stand out.

No, you're right - that is really true. Coming in cold into the voting rounds and the lack of "story" other than nice college kid with the guitar did hurt him (sales and fanbase wise.. I mean he won so....lol). I wonder though if it might not end up helping him in the long run. In a way he gets to create his own "storyline" for the people who do discover him. People are going to discover him through his music.

Idol is such a weird thing, it helps give these folk a music career on a level that may not have happened without it - but at the same time it does have a stigma.

Anyway just babbling on again - as usual. lmao. I talk myself into things and then talk myself out of them. :)

I totally agree with this! Kris is really lucky to be still being discovered, as it were, rather than people already thinking they know all about him, or even being tired of him and his sound already. He was apparently a little more of an unknown quantity coming off Idol than most. Good. It seems I'm reading a lot of "wow, I never knew this guy was so good" stuff, and also (as Top Idol put it -- I'm paraphrasing), "This is the first person who won AI who I'm more interested in after the season than I was during it." Plus, he gets to show more of his real personality now, and since it's a good personality, that works very nicely, too. It's not like some former contestants, who seemed nice enough on the show and afterwards reveal themselves to be less than what America assumed they were, not more.

[Yesterday, I wasn't totally surprised the guy at the record store didn't recognize Kris's name right away, but on the other hand, KA debuted at #11 and his single is on the radio. But I'm assuming the guy is some kind of expert, when after all he probably just works there.]

New and different (and really good) video -- of the whole band -- yay! -- and audio from Philly Sound Studios of the Philadelphia sessions:

Oh, one more thing I meant to say, yesterday: Kris has a name that sounds very...usual? The K makes it stand out a bit on the page, but if you just say "Kris Allen" to people, they don't necessarily register much. If his name was Constantine Maroulis, it would be a little different! (Or Anoop Desai, Danny Gokey, or even Adam Lambert, for that matter. Even David Cook's name, though it's simple, isn't common -- and it reminds you of something - a cook. Kris Allen either reminds you of Kris, or else...nothing.) So he actually has to become more or less a household name before people are going to immediately put name to face. I think.

If for some reason Anoop Desai had won AI (wow, that would have to have been a dull Top 10, if he had! jmho)...even that would have stood out. Just because he's of Indian descent. Plus, he's good looking and single. And outspoken. To the press, Kris is just another polite, white, Anglo-saxon, protestant married guy. But that will change in time because there's a lot to this guy that doesn't meet the eye.

You're right -- it will be all about the music, with Kris. Well, I think it will also be about his looks, personality, sense of humor, and -- that certain something that's indefinable. But it'll be all about Kris, anyhow. Not Idol hype.

Those WPST videos are awesome!

I love fandom sometimes. It's David Cook's birthday today. He asked fans to give money to his team for the Race for Hope (for Brain Cancer), if they wanted to give him something. He didn't even need to ask, since fans had already planned to give 27$ today in honor of his 27th birthday (for those who wanted of course).

Race for Hope - DC:

Last time I checked, an hour ago, he was just over 7,000$ and he's now over 8,300$. The whole team has raised more than 19,000$ in total. I'm sure the total will continue increasing during the day. It's really heart-warming to see all those 27$ donations (and other amounts) rolling around on his page.

Wow! A few hours later and the total is at 10,300$ (22,000$ for the whole team)! I'm sure David must be happy he has all these devoted fans right now.

He sang the National Anthem at the Chiefs game today (the team from his hometown, but apparently, they're always losing):

YouTube - David Cook - National Anthem - Chiefs vs Browns - 12/20/09 (Happy Birthday David)

Also, a guy performed Light On on Estonian Idol. And considering that song seems to be a pain to sing, he did really well!

Some weirdness from the glam squad. Some women sent Adam pictures of how many of his CDs they've bought and the other MJ's blog put up the pictures:

This one has bought 35:

And this one has bought 38 (so far):

LOL!! I'm scared. They're scary.

They sent these pictures to Adam? Thinking that he'll be happy about it and not completely scared? I'd ask for a restraining order.

I prefer giving my money to charity instead of buying that many copies of something I don't need. Kinda makes more sense to me.
