Oh, yeah -- and in AI terms, he comes across better on TV than the rest of them, and that's another reason he won. It may have nothing to do with his future music career away from TV, but nonetheless it figured in his win.

I think it's really simple. If you look at why you and I and missaddicted like Kris, or anyone else who really likes him, it's almost always for the same reasons. I just think almost all the people who wanted him to win AI thought the way we did and still do. People will get into elaborate theories about why he won, but I think they're all wrong. He won because he was the most loved. For his talent, his musical tastes, and his personality. That's all.

Excuse me posting again...this line stood out for me in that forum:

Yet in EW, a representative from z100 stated that the response to the song has been phenomenal.

I wonder what EW that was. Online? Anyway, that's great news! I'm beginning to think this is being done the old fashioned way. First the song gets a lot of radio play, and if it gets good audience response, it begins to sell. If the response is that great (yay!) I'm very, very hopeful. And in a tough market like New York, all the better.

Ha. With good reason.

Indeed! Some of the Cook fans I met last night are also Kris fans and voted for him over Adam.

Sounds like you had an adventure, missaddicted. So how was the crowd rude? You didn't elaborate much on that. Who were the guys in the box office you were talking about? What were the other DC fans like?

Some of the crowd was rude in the usual way. Talking a lot during the opener, Ryan Star. A lot of pushing to go towards the front, while the people in the front clearly lacked space, especially in this heat (towards the end of the show, some people were coming out from the front because they were not feeling well). People screaming during David's acapella part even though he requested silence himself. Anyway, it wasn't that bad, but it wasn't the best crowd I've ever seen.

There were three guys in the box office: the guy working there, Andy Skib, member of the band (he had family in the area, which is probably why he was there arranging the tickets for his family) and the man that offered to give me one of his tickets that was reserved in his name. I guess he was a "Sony guy", because the box office guy told me he had put me on the "Sony list". I managed not to squee in front of Andy, which would have been uncomfortable, but inside I was a bit like "OMG, that's Andy!".

The other fans that I met were great. Varied ages from their 20's to their 50's, interesting and funny, very generous. I'm sure not all his fans are like that, but the ones I hang out with, yes. Ha! I talked with three of them until 2 a.m. last night.

One of them actually found the country or bluegrass cover group which music was playing between Ryan and David's sets: Amazon.com: Hayseed Dixie: MP3 Downloads. Amusing for one song, then totally awful. Their cover of I Love Rock and Roll is pretty offensive.

Slightly jealous of the folks at the show tonight (some of which I was with last night), they got my favorite MWK (the band that some of David's bandmates, Andy and Neal, had before Idol) song Make Me. I can't really complain. I got two shows with two pretty different set lists, so that's already totally awesome.

I agree with you. I think though that it might have happened, the "voting for other reasons". Not the majority of the vote, but a small part. It's so easy during the finale to vote for someone, but also against someone. And I say: so what? It always happens. So people are still rehashing the reasons why he won? Why? It doesn't give anything at this point. They both have albums coming out, and instead of having one song on the radio this fall, Adam is probably going to have two, targeting two different formats (AC and HAC with the cheesy power ballad and Pop/CHR with his own single). Seriously, I don't see how not having the Idol title will hinder him. Stop beating a dead horse, people! Well, not you two, the others. Idol fans are specialized in beating dead horses. It's dead, leave it alone.

I agree - I like the old fashioned approach. Coming from behind also serves Kris well (even if it's only the perception of coming from behind) and It's from this EW article (most recent I think)

and OMG missaddicted - you saw Andy at the boxoffice!?! How cool is that!

So I was also exploring the All access website and the songs that are going for adds the same day as Kris (Oct 13th).

Only one of them is on the itunes charts and that one has a guest appearance by Taylor Swift (and it's in the 100's)

It is weird however that Great DJ by the Ting Tings is going for adds a week or so after Kris.. didn't that come out like over a year ago? Hmm.. radio is weird.

Yes, do that, people. I agree.

We were referring to posts on the Kris Allen thread here. (You may have to go back a page or two to get the point.)

I'm actually kinda tired tonight or I'd recap it for you. It's not really about Adam. Someone just suggested that Kris would likely have come in 4th or 5th if Adam hadn't been in the competition. That his friendship with Adam was the reason he did better. (Coat-tail riding, basically.) Another case of somebody thinking Kris didn't win on his own merits or his own popularity. Of course, to say Kris would have come in any other place than first or second is to ignore the fact that Kris and Adam were really the only ones selling any music on iTunes. I really doubt the others could have done any better than they actually did. And some (Matt) were really lucky not to have done worse.

Besides that, do you remember the newspaper reviews during the season? I was re-reading some of them a couple of weeks ago. Kris got real raves on several nights. Adam did, too. The rest -- hardly ever. The main people not getting Kris were the judges (yes, some of the press, like the NY Times, but the judges were the most visible). There are people who can't get over that, it seems.

Thanks for explaining some more about the venue and the audience. I thought you meant that Andy was in the box office, but I wasn't sure. That's great! I'm glad they arranged for you to get in. Wonder where that ticket went?

Some of the Cook fans I met last night are also Kris fans and voted for him over Adam.

Kris has fans? (I couldn't resisit.) Yay for them!

ETA: Thanks for that info, SleepinIn.

Oh and thanks for that short recap, I understand the situation better. Still doesn't make any more sense.

No, it doesn't. Someone on the thread keeps harping on "if Kris has so many fans that he won, why hasn't his single sold better?" Apparently all Idol winner's singles are supposed to follow a pattern. I have a feeling Adam's will follow that pattern, but maybe Jive doesn't want LLWD to follow that pattern. Maybe they don't want Kris to be merely an Idol winner. Maybe they even want to distance him from Idol, a bit. These people sink big money into acts and I assume they have strategies.

And maybe Kris is just someone whose career will follow a different pattern from the norm.

I don't know the answer to this poster's assumptions, but it may be a lot of factors, and we won't really know how it sells until, like, a year from now. I'm as analytical as the next guy, but I guess I don't really need an explanation for everything.

Just watching a bit of the We day broadcast on Much. They aired Hedley playing 'Amazing'. It sounded good.

ETA: David Cook is tweeting at Kris again. :) and then Chris Daughtry tweeted David.. (makes me all warm inside, lol)

.
ETA2: But shouldn't we know how many CD's are sold at precisely 5:00 o'clock p.m. ?

Argh. lol.

Yes, me too! And I don't follow Daughtry so I wouldn't have known about his replied if you hadn't said anything so thanks!

Apparently David said during the show tonight that he met Chris Cornell (of Soundgarden and Audioslave fame, he also made the arrangement of Billie Jean that David used on AI and he co-wrote "Light On") for the first time this week, in the doctor's office, of all places! So weird that they had never met. Anyway, a lot of Cook fans thought that Cornell was a bit conceited, for various reasons (too long to explain), but David said that Cornell told him that he was singing Light On better than he ever could. Yay for compliments!

That's cool that David met Chris Cornell - I would have thought they'd have met already too!

You should follow Chris D. He's actually an interesting twitterer. He's started tonight by giving away tickets to his show and then said that he would do it at every stop of the tour.

I'm sure he's cool. I'm just not a fan really, so I don't really have any interest in following him. I'm either a fan of people I follow, or I follow them because they post info or things like that (like the moderator on David Cook Official or Michael Slezak). It's already time-consuming enough keeping up with everything that goes on with these people without following others I'm not that interested about.

Ooh, MJ was at David's show tonight and made a lot of videos, yay! Her videos are very good usually. And I have to work tomorrow. Yeah, we'll see how that goes!

Seriously. I ditched Claude Kelly. I hope his song doesn't end up on Kris's album.. his tweets were getting crazy annoying.

Thanks, SleepinIn, I don't follow either of them so I didn't know that.

Heh. I dropped Trace Cyrus. Why was I following him?! I guess because I like Metro Station. He drove me crazy. Look him up and you'll see why.

I think I must follow too many people, lmao.

So 600+ is a lot to follow? Maybe I should ditch some more peeps... hmm. Although.. I have to follow record stores that mention Kris, and hotel's that mention Kris.. I sense a theme. A crazy theme, but a theme. :)

and of course Alex Trugs, he always tweets Kris. He was in on the Fortune Cookie tweeting too.
