Just jumping back in for a second to mention that, thanks to you, SleepinIn, I listened to some Brand New Shoes last night.

Just a couple of songs, but I loved them. It was late, I actually forget right now what the titles were.

The first time I listened to them, I liked them, too. But I guess I don't seek them out because they require real listening. (Like Kris, in general, I guess.) Right now, in the concert, he's doing crowd-pleasing material, not his most introspective stuff. And I love what he's doing, of course.

But he totally moved me with a couple of his old songs. He's a powerful singer, he connects on some basic emotional level. Yet it's not that heavy, which I like. Not self-indulgent. He has incredible taste.

Kris.

This Arkansas Radio Station KURB FM 98.5 has an interview and a LIVE in studio performance of Heartless. :)

Thanks for the link. Kris sounds so laid-back, he's getting really comfortable in interviews, huh? Especially on his own turf. That version of Heartless was fantastic. (Up until the end, where he went off pitch a bit. Did he get lost, too? lol). What a great singer he is, damn! Can I be him? Sooo cool.

How do I enter to win tickets to that event?! Northern California wine country + Kris singing? Two of my favorite things.

Ha - yeah there was a wonky note in there on that version of Heartless. The version was so cool though that it didn't really take away from it for me.

It's that connection that I get really excited about for his future music career. He just is able to draw people in to get the emotions that he's portraying it's a real gift.

Me, either. New version = awesome. Not to state the obvious, but this is exactly why I like him, he's a creative musician, he's still working on this, for instance, making it fresh and improving it. Giving us some new kicks. I wish I could let him know how we appreciate and notice that he does this stuff.

It's that connection that I get really excited about for his future music career. He just is able to draw people in to get the emotions that he's portraying it's a real gift.

I know. I wonder where that ability comes from?

I think he'll have to overcome some things. Reisitance from some quarters. I think that's his lot, for some reason. It was that way on the show, and I think it's that way now. Why, I'm not sure. But he's up for that challenge.

I don't think this is too insightful a review of Kris but at least the guy liked him best. He also posted a comment in the comments thread. Apparently he's an Adam fan who just found Kris more consistent in the concert.

And...for some reason I'm missing Canadian Idol tonight. The weather here has been so bad for so long, I've almost forgotten it's summer. But tonight it's a hot night and I have the AC on, and I guess it somehow reminded me of sitting here last year watching CI on my computer and looking at TWoP. :-(

Kris talks cougars - too funny. Backpeddle much Kris?

Awesome version of Bright lights from Memphis - this makes me want to hear him play his own music. Like NOW. lol

There's a live feed for Tampa here. I think it's intermission now. Or whatever. I can never really get this stuff to work right.

(Never mind intermission, it's been a while since I started writing this, so actually Allison is on now.)

Thanks for the links--I just listened to the interview and Heartless and the video. I know it's not my imagination, he really does keep getting better and better, right? I love it when people say he's "low key" and his set is "relaxing." What are they smoking?

By the way, what do you think of what he wears onstage? I think he looks good. But then he dresses pretty much like me, most of the time, so naturally I think he looks fantastic. lol

Loved the cape story. Too bad they didn't take him up on it when he said he'd wear it onstage that night. I have a feeling that when Kris gets more comfortable onstage a very funny guy is going to emerge.

Did you read that recapper today on mj's blog? Speaking of funny. He had me laughing. Very snarky.

I don't mind the plaid and jeans at all, I just wish that they all could -- change it up a little and wear what they want. There must be a good reason for the sameness but I'd kill for one new outfit. I'm tired of Megan's pink dress, Adam's super funky jacket and Kris's plaid shirt. I need a little variety.. perhaps a different plaid? lol

The cape story was funny. I'm just picturing him sitting there in the radio office looking at a Kris shrine. Cracks me up totally. When you hear Kris on the radio or doing interviews he realy comes across as comfortable in his own skin and I think that's something that is going to serve him really well when he goes to do promo stuff for his own cd.

LOL - I laughed when I read it because I knew you'd think it was funny. I thought it was hilarious too. Snarky but fair that's all I want from all the reviews. Pick on each one of them, but show their strengths too. These 10 did beat out like 10,000 people. They can all sing. They just have to find their groove and pick the right songs.

They each must have several copies of the same shirt or pants, don't you think?
Makes me sort of curious: when/where do the wardrobe people do the laundry/dry cleaning when they're on the road?

I agree he could wear a different shirt, or someone else could change an outfit now and then. But after all, the idea is that they're only going to be seen once, not over and over. They're dressing for a concert, not YouTube, after all. Maybe somebody ought to realize they should be dressing for YouTube.

I know some guys who work in a pretty hip clothes store and they dress like Kris in this concert; sort of undersized plaid shirts and black skinny jeans. So Kris is up to the minute (especially for him). Thing is, it's a big show, so possibly you have to wear brighter colors or something.

I'm listening to Rickey's cellcast. Adam is on. Once again it sounds to me like his set is...long. He's doing some amazing vocal gymnastics tonight. I happen to think he sounds both amazing and like a couple of dozen cats on the back fence, but, whatever.

Kris is on. He gets such a huge ovation when he comes on. Did you read the recap that said the crowd wants to cheer for him more, between his songs, but he (or the show) doesn't give them the chance? That it goes too quickly from one song to the next? I thought that was interesting.

Audience sounds like they love him. (Bad sound tonight, though.) Kind of baffling when I hear these huge audience reactions on the cellcast, then the reacappers say Kris didn't get a lot of response from the audience. This bugs me! I mean, I'm listening to the thing, here.

That is interesting. I might actually agree with it too. When he was in AR (AR.. Arkansas I remember) he actually encouraged the crowd with the applause at the beginning ovation and they went even crazier. It would be hard to repeat that ovation (perhaps in a lifetime - lol) but I think if he encouraged it he would get an even louder response from the crowd.

LOL - I know. It's crazy. I think it's from coming after Adam when the world goes mad, they don't quite notice how big a response Kris gets. I think that the tour is good for him though, he does have things to work on stagecraft wise and that makes me interested in just where he's going to go. Because I really don't think we've seen anything yet in regards to Kris.

I believe they changed clothes at some points during the tour last year... maybe they're cheaper this year. And by the way, David Cook is an adept of plaid also and wears it on stage a lot, but at least he's not always wearing plaid! Not that plaid is that horrible, but some variation is nice. I think David and Kris have some of the exact same shirts.

I haven't had the time to comment on that before, but the reception that Kris had in Little Rock? Incredible!

The Bright Lights video you posted SleepinIn is amazing, thanks! His energy is contagious!

I'm missing Canadian Idol too.

And I'm a bit sad right now, David's bass player just left the band, in the middle of their tour. I wonder what happened. My fantasy was that the five guys would stick together as a band, but apparently not. At least, the guys have a friend who'll play with them for the next six weeks, but it probably won't be easy to find a new bass player while they're in the middle of their tour.

By the way, I suggest the "David Cook plays golf" video that MJ posted. It's pretty funny. And it's quite amazing David now calls his own musical idol, Raine Maida, his friend. That must be surreal. And if that's David's house and car (well, he drives a Lexus, so yes, must be his car) in the video, well, I want to win American Idol too.

I agree with this, this is Kris at the very beginning. I've said it before, but I think he's amazing for someone who's never really done this before. He has great stage instincts. He's miles above other people like Anoop, who has probably had as much experience as Kris. But stage technique is another thing. That just comes with repetition, practice, and experience.

I don't think musicians actually have to be too polished onstage, they just have to get used to being there. Sometimes I like singers and musicians who are so genuine they don't perform, they just play. Then there are some who try to give the audience more of a rock show. And there are the more Vegas-Broadway types.

I think the AI tour is more of a show, and some performers fit into that format more easily than others. I think Kris is amazingly adaptable and he's managed to fit himself into that format, and still be real, but it's not the ideal showcase for him. He has class and I see his own concerts as being very different.

I believe they changed clothes at some points during the tour last year... maybe they're cheaper this year. Well, the tour is only about a third of the way through, if that. So maybe they'll change clothes at some point. But I doubt Kris will change his all that much, don't you?

I think a lot of the people who refer negatively to Kris in plaid (at least on the forums and blogs) are just using it as a way of putting him down. There's not much you can pick on, with him, so they often say he lacks style, as a way to compare him negatively to Adam. Sometimes without mentioning Adam at all. There are a lot of these people out there...

Actually, Kris doesn't lack style, because he always looks good, his clothes are flattering, and, most important, he wears the clothes, they don't wear him. (Yikes! Couture-conscious ross rides again.)

Did you read about the stuff being thrown onstage tonight? Cat o' nine tails thrown onstage when Adam was on, picked up by Kris during his set? People are loving this on mjs' blog. To me it's pretty stupid. No offense to Adam but his provocative behavior onstage seems to make the audience think they can go over the line with this stuff. Like I said, it's a strip club mentality. I don't think anything should be being thrown onstage.

Just wanted to say I think I know how you feel about this. I like some bands who have lost members. You get to like those people and you wonder why they left (and you usually don't find out the real reasons). It's not like you just follow the lead singer, you like the band members too.

No, for sure. Still, a little variation in color would be good! Adam must be dying having to wear the same outfit every night!

LOL. You know you're quite fascinating ross. I'm trying to imagine you in "real life", but I'm trying to put together the skateborder side, the Kris Allen obsessed side, the couture conscious side, as well as all the others and it's not really working!

Throwing things on stage is stupid, whatever it is.

Yeah. I guess it's still a bit different with Idols though. I mean, except for his best friend, lead-guitar player extraordinaire Neal Tiemann, the other guys in the band didn't play on his record. They were hired as a touring band. Like Daughtry I guess, but Daughtry stayed together. Of course, Neal and Andy Skib (guitar, keyboards) are two of David's best friends from before Idol and David joined their band MWK in 2006. I would be even more sad if these two left. Joey and Kyle (drummer) had to audition to be part of the band, but Joey said that he knew he wanted to be in David's band right when he won. The fans have been dreaming for a name for the band since last winter and even though David promised that they were going to have a name, they still haven't been named (except the fangirls given name EEB: Easy on the Eyes Band!). I still want to believe that David will be able to be part of a durable band and not only be playing with a band "supporting the American Idol". As long as his friend Neal stays with him, I'll be satisfied I guess, he's definitely the most fascinating/talented of his bandmates!

LOL. Just read a comment by MJ saying that Daughtry actually also had a change of bandmate during their first tour, so I was definitely wrong about that!

I know what you mean. I don't think all my parts add up. I'm probably not that fascinating. I'll tell you more about myself maybe some other time when I'm not so sleepy.

I was just looking at LiveJournal and the comments about the Bright Lights video above. Some of them were hilarious. I think Kris will probably be getting more and more comments on the sexiness of his singing style as time goes on. NOt like it's intentional, which is why it's cool, of course. He's just really intense.

Oh, I'll have to watch that! I love Raine Maida - and OLP's 4 am is one of my all time favourite songs. (Okay, so I have a lot of favourite songs.. but this is one of them) You're right that must be really surreal. and just cause... lol

YouTube - Our Lady Peace - 4am

Yeah, didn't Adam call it a showcase rather than a concert. It is more of a show. Plus, when you stage a show for 10 different sets, the stage set-up (ie. The great big hole in the floor for ATTID) is going to be awkward at times.

Actually, Kris doesn't lack style, because he always looks good, his clothes are flattering, and, most important, he wears the clothes, they don't wear him. (Yikes! Couture-conscious ross rides again.)

Yep totally agree. Whatever Kris wears - it always looks comfortable on him. Even the K-sizzle gangsta look. lol.

and just say no the the throw. Someone's going to get knocked out if they keep throwing handcuffs. Ouchie - don't hurt Adam peeps.
