Ross it's the American Idol Fan show and it's on itunes as a podcast - they're a rather snarky bunch at times, but it was interesting to hear their opinions. Plus they had some interesting things to say about the text thing.

Haven't we reached the finals? Isn't there a winner?

Isn't it time to bury this thread about eight foot under??

Analyzing the outcome of the series as a whole is almost as interesting as the actual show. What can I say.. ? lol

Have you guys read the Comcast chats?

So Matt has a bromance going on with Danny (it's from the chat posted by SleepinIn)? I did not see that coming! Thanks for the link by the way!

David Cook was on Larry King Live tonight (maybe MJ will have the video on her blog later). Larry was as awkward as ever, but it was all forgiven when he called David a "great guy" and "really special" at least four times during the interview. The first part mainly concentrated on how he is coping with his brother's death and it was kind of heartwrenching to watch. At least, they did talk about his career after that and his plans for the future. I knew it before, but David said it again: he wants to act.

Of course, Larry had to ask him if he was surprised by Kris winning over Adam. David said that he was, but he wasn't at the same time, and said once again that both are great. Seems like a "politically-correct" answer, but I do believe that's how he really feels. Then, Larry asked him about Adam's sexuality. I was about to get mad, but then he at least asked him about how Adam credited David (in the RS interview and elsewhere) for paving the way a bit for him to succeed on Idol.

So, Kris was in Virginia Beach apparently this weekend and attended a concert by The Fray. Any hypothesis why Kris was in Virginia Beach? Just to see The Fray?

People are speculating that since Timbaland is based in Virginia Beach, and has recording studios there, maybe Kris was there to work with him.

Kris Allen Nation:

According to many different twitter accounts, Kris was spotted at a The Fray concert this evening. While this alone is hardly news, but given that Kris has been in LA recently rehearsing for the tour, why is is that he flew out to the East Coast with no appearences scheduled? It seems doubtful that Kris is in Virginia simply to attend a concert. So, here's what many are speculating - Kris is in Virginia Beach to record. Maybe he is working with The Fray? Justin Timberlake, another Jive artist, recorded his first solo album there, and N.E.R.D, Pharrell, and Timbaland are also based out of Virginia Beach. Something to think about...
From Kris-Allen.net:

There have been multiple people twittering that they have spotted Kris at the Jack’s Mannequin/The Fray show in Virginia Beach. They have said as he was going through the crowd he got mauled by girls!
Kris at the concert (picture).

There's also a rumor that Adam was in Washington DC over the weekend for Capital Pride. If so, that's pretty close to Virginia Beach, so maybe they were in the area together.

That's all I know.

When did David Cook become a blond?

That is quite the can Ross. I admit that I was happy that he posted that, even though I know in my heart that Adam and Kris are two very different artists and that Adam's route really isn't the best for Kris. (that's my head talking) In my heart I want Kris to get the respect for his talent that he deserves, and you know all the magazine covers he wants.. and if someone wants to talk to him about what he's wearing - I'm in.

Okay, they need to close that can up now - wow -- bitterness is just overflowing. I am gonna live in chill-town and just believe that Kris's talent will overcome the lack of push (or perceived lack of push) from 19. Buy his CD and live in chill-town, that's my plan.

I mainly see Adam as getting buzz for coming out. I don't know if that buzz will continue. I suspect it could, since Adam seems to know how to stir the pot (Clay Aiken and Perez Hilton comments, for ex.). The press likes a controversial figure who's good for a sound bite. I think Adam is going to get a lot of coverage.

Actually, whatever I want for Kris, being a controversial celebrity haas never really entered into it. So I'm cool if he doesn't get huge media attention for stuff other than his music. Magazine covers would be nice, but Kris is such a cool guy and such a quiet storm (as Rickey Minor called him) I'm sure he'll eventually get all that and more. It's really a tortoise and hare story.

The only thing that actually bugs me about this whole mess is: the possibilty that 19Evil is really not behind Kris. Since the show ended, I've sometimes gotten the feeling that we're still watching the show play out. Could it be? 19E couldn't force the vote, on the show, so they're just going to try even harder now to make Adam the "winner"? It doesn't make a lot of sense.

I can see the buzz continuing for Adam too. Adam is a really smart guy and he's been waiting for this for a long time and he's been a professional musician for a long time too. I think he totally deserves the buzz, this is not an overnight sensation thing - he's put the work in.

But I totally agree it's the perception that 19 isn't behind Kris that annoys me too - and it did when Taylor won (even though I didn't really enjoy Taylor's music) There was just the feeling that they were going to do what they were going to do. I don't actually care about the fame aspect either (except for the feeling that 19 isn't doing all that it can - which could be completely false) if Kris is able to do what he wants to do, make music that means something to him then I'm okay with that.

and Adam will bring a lot of buzz to the Idol tour too. I can't help but think that it will be a good thing (at least if the fans stop beating each other up verbally).

Just briefly: I was searching Kris on twitter, and a while ago someone said their brother flew out of ORF (Norfolk, Virginia, airport. I had to Google it). And he sat next to Kris in first class on a flight to Chicago. No idea what that's about.
(Who's from Chicago? Kanye's from Chicago...)

I think all this must be a good sign that Kris is secretly up to some pretty good things.

I can see the buzz continuing for Adam too. Adam is a really smart guy and he's been waiting for this for a long time and he's been a professional musician for a long time too. I think he totally deserves the buzz, this is not an overnight sensation thing - he's put the work in.

Well, I don't think the buzz is necessarily good. Some of his fans seem to think he's sounding like an egotistical jerk in the latest interviews. (Or so I read on some forums.) Then again, when Jacob went through his 'asshat' period it didn't seem to do him much harm.

As for the tour, I really don't want the focus taken from Kris. I'm getting tired of Adam already...

Hang in there Ross it's gonna be okay. :) Kris is stealthy and he sneaks up on people. Stealth Idol. That was a funny clip of Kris from the Hollywood reporter at MJ's - totally true. Everybody pees.

Have you heard No Boundaries on the radio yet? I keep forgetting to ask. I haven't heard it here yet. But, then I want them to bury that song. (although it was better in the studio version) If they don't promote him.. he doesn't have to sing the crappy song. Seems like a fair trade.

oh, and Chicago... my first thought went to Oprah - lmao. Then I told myself to snap out of it. Someone on TWOP said that it's a popular hub for changing planes if you're flying out west.

SleepinIn, peeing with Simon and Randy. LOL! Now I know why Kris just kept laughing when Simon was giving him those put-downs. He was thinking of Simon taking a leak. (Well, It's possible.) I have done things like that myself and it works.

Okay, I'm calming down slowly but surely. Thanks for talking me down again. lol
What a roller coaster this turned out to be, in some ways! Weird. \

I just spent the past hour reading Master Class Lady, or MCL, as she's sometimes known. I first read her during Canadian Idol (she's Canadian). If you want, you can find her in the blog list on the left hand side of mj's blog. Just click on the link.

She has wonderful things to say about both Kris and Adam. I believe she wanted Adam to win (I mean, she's a voice coach, after all), but was very happy with Kris winning. I would like to send the Kris detractors over there. According to her, he has a gorgeous voice and does so much right (which, considering he never had a lesson, is pretty nice). I was just reading her reviews of some early stuff he did, which gave me the chance to hear his Over The Rainbow again.

OTR

This was the first time I ever heard Kris, and I told missaddicted I was amazed to hear the audience clap at the end. I thought it was a studio recording. He's pitch perfect. There's just something great about the guy. I'm convinced.

Ummm...yeah, Chicago. I guess that makes sense about it being a stopover. It wouldn't have occurred to me because it's so far north, I would think you'd just fly to DC, and from there to LA, but flights do go all over the place. Good point.

Oops, I meant to answer your question, in that last post. No, never heard NB on the radio! I think the highest ranking it has on the Billboard charts right now is #23, on Hot Adult Contemporary. So if I could find an AC station I could probably hear it. (I have no idea how.) Anyhow, I have heard Kris announced as "coming up," a time or two, on one station, but never got to stick around. I've read on forums that people from Boston have heard Heartless on the radio, though.

But I haven't. :(

Do me a little favor, will you, SleepinIn? If you want. Try singing No Boundaries, and tell me how you do. I'd be interested. I tried to sing it a couple of days ago, kind of as an experiment. To see if Kris was right. It's just like he said, you can't take a breath. I also notice the notes are just not easy to sing. It's relentless.
Songs like that don't become hits. People like to sing along, after all. (Interesting, if you seach twitter you'll see a lot of people like the song anyway.)

Media: I don't know. Kris was never an internet darling, but that has nothing to do with the other media. Or does it? How much do they pay attenion to the blogs, these days? You know, I actually saw a couple of articles that cited the comments on mj's blog. One article talked about how the majority of posters on mj's blog were reacting to Kris win, I think. Now, the funny thing is, the media is turning to mj's blog for "inside" AI info, from fans, and the fans on mj's are, like, 90% Adam fans. There are some real Kris haters. mj herself is an Adam fan, but very fair and pretty neutral, and she likes Kris. Still, if the media turns to that blog's comments for its info, that's bad news.

Cook seemed to get a lot of press last year. Kris is better looking than Cook so he should at least get as many pictures taken as Cook, yet I think Cook got covered more in the photo mags. Maybe it's just me. I can understand a lot of media going to Adam. It's got nothing to do with talent, it's his outrageousness, at this point. And he knows how to work it.

But Kris won AI and that means he has huge numbers of fans. And, yeah, we want to see coverage of him. Step it up!

I just heard Kris's version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow like a week ago and I absolutely loved it. Last year Jason Castro sang it and I really fell for that version -- in other words it's on the Ipod, but I have to say that I think Kris sang it better than Jason. He really sang it so beautifully.

It was good to get some Kris press today with the comcast chat Comcast.net: 'Idol' Top 10 Live Chats: Kris Allen and the Oprah interview Q & A American Idol Winner Kris Allen - Oprah.com and then the Good Day LA video. Kris Allen Headed Out On Tour - FOX 11 News - myFOXla.com and then you know...drinking juice Kris Allen Fills Up On Robeks Juice | Kris Allen : Just Jared It cracks me up that Kris is keeping the songs that he's singing on the tour a secret while everyone else has spilled all their secrets.

lol - just watching Access Hollywood and Adam is shopping with the host. It's possibly a ten part interview lmao. Just kidding. Adam just comes off really well in the interview he's funny and personable and he loves to shop.

But on the subject of media vs. internet media. I found another podcast on itunes. It's called the Idle Review with Josh and Jen -- and if you have 20 hours of your life that you need to review AI season 8 with - I fast forwarded a lot - but it's actually a really good podcast the hosts are funny and they were total, total Kris fans. (Adam too -- but moreso Kris) So it's right up our alley, lol.

and Ross I can't sing No Boundaries except maybe the No Boundari-i-irays part. That is probably due to my complete lack of skill. I think Kris has been able to do some things with the song and maybe playing it live would improve it - I just think that saddling the poor Idols with some souless song they manufacture somewhere and sing live for the first time on finale night is probably the thing I like the least about AI. I'd rather they release their best performances as the singles, but they're already doing that.. I don't know the answer.. I'm glad Kris has been able to sing Heartless as well as No Boundaries as his Idol songs.

Thanks for the clips, SleepinIn. Oh, and this is the 'web extra' part to that Good Day LA interview. It's kind of small but you can click on the thingie under the video to enlarge it a bit.

Kris makes me feel good. When he sings, and in his interviews. I'm not sure how he does that. I'm glad you liked Over The Rainbow. Kris and Jason both do the Iz version (have you heard that?). Iz messed up the lyrics, though, and Kris fixed it back to how it should be (Jason copied some of Iz's mistakes, I think). This song must have been the one time Kris played ukelele, huh?

Dude is so modest. Yeah, I'm sure it hasn't happened that girls have thrown themselves on him. Heh.

Singing NB: Well, I tried it just to see if what Kris said is true, and there are too many words and notes. It's really bad. I just wanted to see what he was talking about. Having said that, it's actually amazing what a good job he does on it.

He does really have a joy or serenity about him doesn't he? I don't completely know what it is either.

Yes, I really liked the Iz version too. I haven't had a chance to really compare
those versions though.

When he was talking about the Viola in the chat I started thinking about Sam Roberts (Canadian rock singer.. I don't know if you've heard of him or not? Probably not - but he is awesome BTW
YouTube - Sam Roberts - Don't Walk Away Eileen: Album Version
YouTube - Sam Roberts - Brother Down )
Anyway, he played the violin growing up and was asked about it on a UK radio show and he and the radio show host started talking about the Violin players he knew and how whenever he was with Violin players they never gave any repect to the Viola players..Sam's reponse was something like why play the viola when you could play the violin? (well it's not much of a story really now that I think about it -- but it was funny on the air) Then I read somewhere today on one of the boards about how Viola players always get teased by the Violin players.. I guess it's a violin player joke or something..(????) anyway - long, long story short and that made me think that Kris is sort of used to going his own way and following his own path...I could be completely wrong about the viola as the path to artistic freedom theory -- but it's late. :)

What's weird is that, if you're worried about how he might be being treated, etc., when you see him and hear him talk, it melts away. What did Adam say in one of his confessonals? Kris "centers" him? Hard to put into words what I mean.

I looked all over the place to find a piece I want to give you. It was on idolforums, I think. Can't find it right now. It was witten by a girl whose brother plays viola, I think. It was all about how playing viola helped Kris on Idol. Some things I remember from the piece: the viola plays harmony, not melody (like the violin), in the orchestra. The violas are located in the center of the orchestra, rather than up front like the violins. Basically, the viola player gets no glory, but gets to experience the colors of the orchestra, understand the arrangements. Or so I seem to remember.

A picture of #'s 5, 3, and 1, at rehearsal. Linked to on twitter by Alex Wagner-Trugman.

Somehow, your links didn't play, for me. I'll look some more up on YouTube, tonight.

I know right? It's like what were you worrying about him for? lol Craziness.

That would make sense then re: viola. If it helps the musician understand the arrangements - that's kind of cool.

Really nice Billboard article that talks about the music - excellent job Billboard. For a music magazine you did your job.

Adam Lambert, Kris Allen Team With Top Hitmakers For Debut Albums

and this I am Team Kradam. on Twitpic from a huge, huge Adam fan as part of her interview with Adam (today) Adam Lambert: The Reality Rocks Interview - Reality Rocks

Her interview with Kris is going to be posted on Monday with the other Idol's to be posted when the tour begins in order.

Thanks for the links. Adam is nice. When people say he has a personality like a "rare tropical bird," or a "magical unicorn," it baffles me, though. Have they never met a gay theatre guy? I mean, he's not some rare creature, he's just gay. And theatrical. Not that unusual a combo. Are people that sheltered?

The tour is going to be something. I actually worry about some of Adam's worshippers, though. I mean fans. I'm afraid that at the sight of a real, live Adam, some women may faint, and impale themselves on their own glow sticks.

I have never seen fans like some of his fans. Like, ever. I think on tour they may be the loudest and craziest fans there.

Re Billboard: I'm hoping Kris does a little something 'urban' because, I don't know, you should always do something a little out of the box. I can see a collaboration with a hip hop artist, or a rap remix, being a hit, for him. Just one song, you know. Mraz-Mayer? Is this Kris? I never totally got those comparisons. He has a stronger, richer voice. I don't know. Different. Anyhow, if he doesn't do something that stands out and separates him from that pack, I don't see how anyone will think it's memorable.

LOL - That kills me. I don't get the magical unicorn comparison either. Like what?? What?? It's insane.

I've never been to an Idol concert but from what I've gathered they are insane anyway. Just the whole talk about the tour colours .. that kind of creeps me out a bit. I know it's supposed to be fun and a way to show your support. It's just -- soooo not me. At least they seem to be losing the dance numbers, that's a good sign.

But yeah, prepare to catch someone as they faint when Adam takes the stage. ;)
