Thanks for the videos, ross! I love their duet from the last pimpmercial, they sounded great together!

I've also taken some distance from all of this madness. We'll see what happens. And ross, I don't know really what impact Simon Cowell can have on their careers outside the show. Well, he apparently wants to manage Adam (but that's just a rumor), but it's never happened before. Kris will probably be managed by Simon Fuller's management company. And he'll likely be signed to RCA. I can't believe there isn't someone in there who won't believe in his potential! Also, if they believe that Kris can make them some money, they'll do everything for that to happen.

Also, after all the interviews from next week, Kris (and Adam and the others) will probably start writing/rehearsing for the tour, so I'm sure the controversy will die down by itself.

MJ and Kris Allen Nation have posted Kris' performances that he did for Ellen, acoustic No Boundaries and Heartless. Both are great, I can't wait to see him again on my TV! I think he'll also be on Regis and Kelly and the Today Show this week, and also Idolatry of course!

I liked that video, I'm getting to be a real sentimental slob, I guess.

Hey, did I tell you I nearly heard No Boundaries on the radio? I mean, supposedly it's been released (the day after the finale, right?) but I have no idea if it's getting regular airplay. This was Saturday morning, Kiss 108. I think that's usually when Seacrest is on, but I don't think it was him. Anyhow, it was America's Top 40, or something. The guy announced, "Coming up later, Kelly Clarkson..." somebody, somebody else "...and Kris Allen." But I had to be someplace and didn't hear it. Damn! Just like that interview Friday. I really did want to hear Kris's single on the radio, though. Somehow it would have made it all seem real, and like the triumph it is. I mean, it really is one. It's so cool. It's sort of beginning to sink in at last for me now. I keep thinking: omg, it's that same kid who sang Man In The Mirror. He beat all the odds.

I was watching the finale again. I never really noticed it before, but after Ryan announces Kris is the winner, Kris says, "Are you serious? Are you freakin' serious?!" LOL.

This CD thing is scary-ish. Especially when Kris said he'd want to work with Kara "You can go higher, you can go deeper" DioGuardi. I hope Kris has some ideas of good artists he wants to work with, like Cook did with Raine Maida, I think? I don't know, it's a crap shoot. I really wish they would start the artist out right on the radio with one of their best iTunes recordings of a good cover, instead of a "craptastic" coronation song. Yeah, I like it too, now. Ha. But still.

I don't know what impact Simon can have outside the show. Maybe not a lot. It depends on what his participation in 19E is. I don't understand the whole setup.

What do you mean, "And he'll likely be signed to RCA"? I'm confused. Kris has been signed, right? Isn't the Idol signed up when he/she wins?

I know right! He was my favorite from the start, but I wouldn't have bet money on him winning for sure! It was always "one week at a time" with Kris. "Please, let him make it through this week!" Well, he made it to the end and won.

This CD thing is scary-ish.

It kinda is, but at the same time, again I wouldn't have bet money that he would have the chance to get a record deal out of his time on Idol, yet he did. And the fact that we'll at least be able to buy a Kris Allen CD in november makes me really happy. Well, actually, I've already bought it, since it's included in the iTunes Pass.

I hope Kris has some ideas of good artists he wants to work with, like Cook did with Raine Maida, I think?

Yes, I hope so too. Kris has been asked the question a few times (about who he would like to work with), but he never named anyone in particular, just said that there were several people he wanted to work with.

What do you mean, "And he'll likely be signed to RCA"? I'm confused. Kris has been signed, right? Isn't the Idol signed up when he/she wins?

Yes, yes, for sure he gets a record deal, it's just that there are a few labels that he can sign with. Last year, Archie signed with Jive and Cook, with RCA (Daughtry is also with RCA I believe). It seems that both Adam and Kris have been/will be signed to RCA, but nothing official has been announced yet. It should come soon.

Okay, I get it now. Thanks.

It's really you who got me interested in him originally, I think. I'll have to go back and read the thread. Anyhow, you have a good eye/ear! Did you hear his voice first, or did you just think he was a babe and then try to find out what he sounded like? lol

Anyhow, I feel like we discovered him. Ha.

About the iTunes pass -- I haven't downloaded iTunes yet. I'm behind in that way.
Can you tell me what the pass costs, how long it's good for, etc? And do yo have to download songs right away? (I might want to get an iPod, I don't want to download a lot of stuff on my laptop. It runs slower.)

I wouldn't have bet money on him winning for sure!

I wish I had! That would have been a decent profit because the Las Vegas odds (I saw them a few times during the competition) were against him. They went way up when he originally did Ain't No Sunshine, then they fell again.

(After All She Wants To Do Is Dance, I think. Still love the iTunes version of that. Live version was better than the judges said, also. The pit is to be forever avoided, though!)

The voice definitely! Well, he's a cutie too, but a cutie without a voice is not that interesting! Actually, I think I quoted recently my first impression of him (that is on the first page of this thread I think) and then, you re-posted our discussion that happened before Group 2 week of the semi-finals.

When I checked the spoilers for the top 36 and I saw his name, I checked youtube and that's how I found his "Over the Rainbow" cover. That was it for me, I was a fan of his beautiful voice. So yeah, I guess I was probably among the first to love his voice, since his audition clip that we saw lasted about 5 seconds.

The iTunes Passes are a new thing on iTunes, so I'm not 100% sure how they work, it's the first one that I've bought. Kris' iTunes Pass costs 16.99$ (in Canada at least, but I think it's the same in the U.S.). It includes "Mountains and Hurricanes", backstage videos during the tour, one or more video(s) of his performances on tour and his CD. I think it's a good deal. It's not clear how many videos we'll get though. Right now, of course, only the coronation song is available, but they say that when something new becomes available, we'll receive an e-mail or it'll start downloading automatically when iTunes opens. Anyway, if you like physical CDs more, maybe it's not that good a deal, but in my case, iTunes is my drug. AI (and Kris and Adam) have made good money from me, since I have all of their songs and videos (from the show), except the videos from the duets. The rest? I have it all.

Oh, I thought it included all his iTunes performances from the show. I'm thinking there's not much time left to download them. Kind of torn because I don't want to load them on my computer. Sorry to be so inquisitive...but how long do we actually have to download them? Do you know? (I asked this already, didn't I? Sorry.)

I know Kris was always your favorite but I thought for a while we were losing you to the dark side.

lol

Let me share something with you. On another forum, when the Top 13 was chosen/voted for, someone asked us to rate them based on who we liked most.

This was how I did it (March 6th):

Kris
Adam
Danny
Alexis
Matt
Lil
Jorge
Allison
Michael
Scott
Anoop
Jasmine
Megan

I was (no surprise) the only one who put Kris at No. 1. In fact, the person who asked us to rate them gave us a list of the Top 13 to work from, and actually left Kris out, by mistake!

Hey, my Top 3 was right, anyhow. Also, substitute Allison for Alexis and my Top 5 was almost right. Not bad.

Kris and/or Adam in the iTunes Top 10 in three countries:

In the USA, No Boundaries (K.A.) is No. 2. Heartlesss (K.A.) is No.7, Mad World (A.L.) is No. 10.

In Canada, No Boundaries (K.A.) is No. 5, Mad World is No. 6, and Heartless is No. 10.

In New Zealand, Adam's version of No Boundaries is at No. 3. Kris isn't in the Top 10. (Hm. I don't like New Zealand any more.)

Boom Boom Pow (B.E.P.) is No. 1 in all three countries.

Why not?

I don't know and I haven't seen any information concerning this. All I read is that Matt posted on Twitter that they would be there for a limited time or something like that. I think last year, they were already removed at this time.

In New Zealand

Just the fact that you checked the sales in New Zealand is funny!

Boom Boom Pow is still a horrible song.

Hey, my Top 3 was right, anyhow. Also, substitute Allison for Alexis and my Top 5 was almost right. Not bad.

Wow, really good! But Jorge at number 7? Ha!

I know Kris was always your favorite but I thought for a while we were losing you to the dark side.

Ooh! The Dark Side. Yes, I admit I did wander to the dark side and I'll gladly wander there again! I was honest when I said that I loved several of his performances (Ring of Fire still being pretty much at the top). The thing is, with Kris, he presented himself on the show in such a defined way (which is a good thing for me) that it made it clear that I would be interested in his music. Danny was also pretty defined, but not in a way that would make me interested in his music. Adam is such a great talent, but he's not defined at all. Is he pop? Rock? Electro? Glam? Classic rock? I don't think they would go the Glam or classic rock route with him, since I don't think it's really commercial, but if he does, than he loses me. Otherwise, I might buy his album, but right now, I don't know. I don't really understand his fans who say it doesn't matter which way he decides to go because he's so talented that he could do anything. It does matter.

Adam wasn't "defined." Yeah. I was just thinking that. Just read right now where he said he still has no idea what kind of album he'll make. And that he wants to do movies or TV (He's probably had offers already).

I'm glad Kris won, since a show like this is really for someone like him, a person who needs a break in the record industry. I don't think Kris's dream is to be anything other than a recording artist. For Adam this was more of a stepping stone to being a performer, I'd say. (The headline of the article I just read was: "Allen wants respect, Lambert wants stardom".)

Apparently they're already planning Kris's album. It's weird. I mean, he has to go on tour in a few weeks. Then the tour ends in September, and you said he's supposed to have the record out in November. I wonder whether being totally exhausted is good for creating a great album.

Just the fact that you checked the sales in New Zealand is funny.

Ha! I looked at the iTunes Top 10 charts, and they just show all the countries on one page. Those were the only three countries where Kris and Adam charted. New Zealand, but not Australia, for some reason.

I'm going to watch Larry King with the contestants right now...

First commercial. Okay, that was much better than Friday's show (well, it's all the same show, they're dressed the same as Friday). After the break...Randy Jackson on the phone. Randy says some decent stuff. "The judges are trying to help you."
("Simply dreadful. Absolutely horrible. Self indulgent rubbish." Yeah, that's helpful.)

Oh, by the way...I know. I had Jorge pretty high on my list! Haha.

Lil is right, California is incredibly expensive. So is Massachusetts, but not quite as bad.

Adam says: He will make a record "first." (Before world domination.) "What kind of an album will you make?" Pop rock electronic stuff. Okay, there's our answer.

What? You mean Queen didn't ask Kris to be their vocalist? But he's perfect for Queen! (Sarcasm due to: Queen was so chosen for Adam. "Let's get Queen for Adam!...and whoever else is in the finale with him." But Kris loved singing with Queen, anyhow. So it's all good. Almost.)

Nobody asked Kris what kind of album he'll make. Because they know already, He's defined. Proves your point. Either that or they forgot he's there.

Matt is still wearing that hat.

Idols, do you look at websites, blogs? They must mean mj's blog. TWoP. Hm. Canadian Content? Probably not.

Kris, great final comment.

Where did you read that? Not that I find it surprising, because if I remember correctly, Cook had most of his writing sessions for his album (like with Maida and others), before the tour. And he flew back during the tour to record. Yes, that is the life of an Idol. At least, Cook had a trusted allie in the studio while he was on tour, Neal Tienman, his best-friend for years and now the main guitar player in his band. If only Kris could have something like that.

I'm going to watch Larry King w/ the contestants right now...

Are they saying something interesting? I have to wait until the videos pop up on MJ's blog or somewhere.

Guess you don't get CNN. Okay, well, I added a bit to my last post, about the show.

Where did you read that?
Not sure. I thought I read it somewhere. It was stuff like looking at pictures for album art. Meeting with songwriters. But I'm drawing a blank where I heard it. Probably just some unreliable poster on some forum somewhere.

ETA:

Idols, in answer to Seacrest's questions...who in the group would be:

Class clown: Matt
Class flirt: Matt
Most stylish: Adam
Class brain: Anoop
Class rebel: Megan
Most likely to run for political office: Anoop
Prom Queen and King: Lil and Kris

Ryan: "Final thought, here. What do you think was the message of the season? Was there a theme when you sum up this season? Kris, I'll give it to you."

Kris: "I think seriously, we are all different. And we have gotten along, like, amazingly. And so I seriously think that's the theme. And society is dealing with weird stuff like that right now, you know? And, you know, we need to pull together as a society."

Ryan: "So this should be an example."

Kris: "Yeah."

Yeah, I really liked what he said. He seemed to be referring a bit more to Adam, in his gestures, I thought. Kris is a cool guy, man. I think he's kind of my new hero, here.

Kris Allen Nation has some great articles on this page. Do read the What Not To Sing analysis, "Allen's Wrench," about how Kris's win was maybe not so surprising after all (it's the first part of a series). Jason Langbehn also has said some of the same things (I discovered him because posters on mj's blog who love Adam hate him). And there's a nice interview with Kris's mom.

And this is about how playing viola helped Kris.

I haven't read all the WNTS editorial just yet (so long, but so interesting!), but I love this:

But an upset? Hardly. An upset implies that a weaker competitor happened to beat a field of stronger ones. Kris Allen's wild, remarkable, highly deserving ride to victory in Season Eight was anything but that. Rewind the competition to the beginning and re-run it fair and square this time, and Allen would probably win again. And again, and again. That's because he came out on top for all the right reasons: brilliant song selection, solid vocals, superb presentation (his penchant for side-mouth singing notwithstanding), and most importantly, by crafting a strategy to sell himself to America that was so intelligent that it's worth paying him the highest compliment in the Idol analysts' lexicon. It was Cookesque.

A comparision between my two favorite American Idols (and probably my two favorite Idols in general too) is always amazing!

That's so interesting when you guys say that Kris was a defined artist. Because that was my general feeling today too. Every week Kris showed what he wants to do in a CD.

If I could have voted at the beginning of the season I would have been in Adam's corner -- I didn't watch the kick-off shows (LOST!!) for the most part so I'm basing all my knowledge on the performance shows -- think of the group numbers I've missed!! -- but week after week Kris gave us solid, interesting, current performances and Falling Slowly totally won me over.

They kept saying that Adam was the Glam rock singer.. but I really haven't bought any glam rock albums lately - just sayin'. Now that may be the pigeonholing of the show rather than Adam. But for me as great as Adam was - and he was - I found it hard to determine his musical direction, where Kris was ready to go make a CD that I would listen to right now.
