Yeah, in that as well. Well, I liked Casey more in the beginning, I was becoming tired of his antics, but I do respect his musicianship.

#teamhaley all the way!

I respect Kalan Porter's musicianship. I guess maybe I admire Casey's, more than respecting it, exactly. I think he's kind of a clown, which, if he were a real musician, I don't think he would probably need to be, so often. At first, I saw a video of him on MJ's blog, and I liked it. He was playing a lot of instruments and I thought it was a cute, funny video. But I guess I didn't think this was who he was, as a performer or musician. I thought it was just a joke. I figured he would be different as a performer on the show. I think as a performer he's not really mature or serious. You can only goof around so much - at some point I want to see who you really are - I think he hid it more than showed it.

That's a good point, I agree.

Anyhow, at least he was different.

Actually I think what they lack this year is a really great male singer. And again I mean, someone with artistry and depth, as well as a good voice.

What did I miss? I couldn't watch it all. Album talk - Idol faves - Matthew Morrison - Lyndsey Parker on Casey.

Brief run-down.

  • Casey and Haley are his faves.. with a side order of Lauren
  • He's probably not going to be performing on Idol this season as if he does that he wants to do it with the right material (yes.. good idea IMHO)
  • Really believes in Music Empowers.. but hasn't met the kids or really know what's happening :)
  • He's closer to done than not done with his album - way to narrow it down Kris
  • He hated No Boundaries as much as we did, but doesn't blame Kara for it. He thinks she got a raw deal, said there were 4 writers on it, and she may have contributed a word and got credit.. and blame for it all.
  • Jim's got more and is holding out on us

and I agree with you both. Casey wasn't mature as a performer.. which stands to reason since he's like 20. Which in Jazz years is practically a fetus. They all have a lot of promise though, and I think tour will really give them a lot of seasoning.

Didn't Kris also say that he heard much of David's album and that it was "sick"? I read that on twitter. I like that David made Kris listen to his new music, aww!

What Kris said about No Boundaries was hilarious, though. (See, I meant I saw the Kris parts, missed the other parts. But I'm actually glad you recapped it because I already forgot most of it - and now that you refreshed my memory, I can talk about some of this stuff.)

Jim quoted Kara saying that when she heard them sing it, it was like a plane falling out of the sky. Kris paused, and then said something like, "Was she reading my mind?" Perfect timing.

I agree with you both. Casey wasn't mature as a performer.. which stands to reason since he's like 20. Which in Jazz years is practically a fetus

That's a really good point. I actually said that I thought, as a performer, he wasn't mature or serious. You can be 20 and be serious. Maybe not mature, though - you're right, there.

I'm not sure jazz musicians are any different than any other kind, though. I can think of some of young, serious, good jazz musicians. The thing about Idol is - it's a show, it's not just about music. So while there may be some great jazz musicians around Casey's age - better than him - they aren't TV star material.

Didn't Kris also say that he heard much of David's album and that it was "sick"? I read that on twitter. I like that David made Kris listen to his new music, aww!

That's cool - I didn't hear that.

BTW, the tracklist for David's album is now known: David Cook "Fan Edition" @ David Cook Store

Tracklisting:
  1. Circadian
  2. Right Here, with You
  3. We Believe
  4. Fade Into Me
  5. Hard to Believe
  6. Take Me As I Am
  7. Time Marches On
  8. The Last Goodbye
  9. Paper Heart
  10. 4 Letter Word
  11. Goodbye to The Girl
  12. Rapid Eye Movement
I know that TLG is a Cook/Tedder co-write and that Goodbye to The Girl is the song he wrote with bandmates Neal and Andy. I think 4 Letter Word was written with David Hodges... or Claude Kelly. I'm sure somebody already figured all of that out, LOL.

Interesting; Jordin and Kris are both performing at the Kentucky Derby, but...

Jordin Sparks To Sing National Anthem Prior To Kentucky Derby
Grammy-nominated recording artist Jordin Sparks will sing the national anthem prior to the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby Saturday, May 7 at Churchill Downs.
Sparks, a 21-year-old native of Phoenix, Ariz., will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” around 5:10 p.m. ET following the running of the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (GI). The performance will be carried live on NBC Sports’ coverage of Kentucky Derby 137 which airs 4-7 p.m. ET

Oh. Those were the good parts tho. ;)

So while there may be many great, serious jazz musicians around Casey's age - better than him - they aren't TV star material. Idol wants people to watch the show.

Yeah that's true. They're looking for more than serious musicians. They have a tv show to put on. Serious is overated sometimes though. Casey is entertaining, but sometimes he doesn't take it in the right direction. I mean I like the growl and all, but you can't growl everything.

Didn't Kris also say that he heard much of David's album and that it was "sick"? I read that on twitter. I like that David made Kris listen to his new music, aww!

Yes! I liked that part too. Sick sounds good to me. :)

Lots of different writers on there. :) So he wrote with a Goo Goo Doll?

Also.. the Hodges song.. well David's voice is stronger IMHO.

Serious is overated sometimes though.

I didn't mean serious...as in serious...as in, not fun. Like, Kris is fun, but he's serious - as a musician. This is probably too fine a point, I don't know. Do you get what I mean? I'm not sure I'm saying it right. You can be fun but you have to make good music, also. I guess that's what I mean by 'serious'. I don't think maybe Casey was a careful enough singer or musician. He seemed kind of scattered, to me. Jacob was 19 when he was on CI and he was awesomely focused. And a good singer. And also fun. Casey is so not in that category, for me.

Anyhow - Kris singing America The Beautiful? I thought he was singing the godawful God Bless The USA.

Oop got my patriotic songs mixed up! I'm sure you're right about that and I get your point about Casey, and I do sort of agree ...I liked him though, and enjoyed watching his performances. Even if it wasn't something I would have bought.

Hee! I'm reading back on Twitter and I just saw that I wasn't the only one watching the dog during Bruno Mars' performance!

"@jambajim Idol game: watch the dog on the couch and you can see that this Bruno Mars performance was cut together from multiple takes! #ProducerSecret"
