Hee! Those pictures are funny! I'm totally rooting for Adam in that situation.

I mean, even Adam, who has had all that support, hasn't been there all that much, considering.

Well, he gave a show in front of 50,000 people in Québec, I'd say his people must be happy that he came here! That was probably the biggest show of his tour. I've been hearing his songs even MORE on the radio since he did that show at the balloon festival and I really don't listen much to the radio.

I strongly suspect this was staged.

LOL - I don't think it was staged. If it was staged I think he might have worn a different hat. That is not a rockstar hat, that is my gran's hat. :)

And the point I was trying to make is that even if someone is trying to concentrate their efforts in the US, like Matt Morris is probably doing, it doesn't prevent them from coming for a week in Canada to do some shows.

I agree. Or at the very least - press. They did NO press here. NONE. Or if they did I missed it, which would be crazy, since I'm such an info stalker.

I know the Toronto Star lady wasn't a fan, but neither was Lyndsey Parker - she became a fan after meeting Kris and seeing him on tour. She's a huge fan of the Pigotts for example and I think that there are similarities between Kris and his band and the Pigotts music.

And Milow is pretty much only popular in Québec, (in North America) so it's not surprising that you haven't heard of him. He's a big star in Europe.

I wish we heard more about the popular acts in Quebec too. (or even Canadian music really) I was listening to the Polaris award's free itunes songs http://www.muchmusic.com/tv/polaris/itunes.aspx (Canada only I think) and there are lots I don't know.

Karkwa for instance I was really impressed with the song they included, and I don't know that band at all.

It was just an example I was giving. And Milow is pretty much only popular in Québec, (in North America) so it's not surprising that you haven't heard of him. He's a big star in Europe. He's headlining the Métropolis tomorrow night, which is a pretty big venue (capacity of 2300 people). It's the same venue that Lifehouse played in the last time they came here a couple of years ago.

And the point I was trying to make is that even is someone is trying to concentrate their efforts in the US, like Matt Morris is probably doing, it didn't prevent him from coming for a week in Canada to do some shows.

Maybe we should ask SleepinIn her opinion on this one. I'm curious what it is. (Never mind. I see it was posted before this!)

My own opinion wasn't meant to be a put down of the other artist. I just think Kris opening for anyone unknown in the US, no matter how big they are in Canada, or Europe, is probably not going to happen. I could be wrong.

I really wish Kris would go to Canada. So you could see him, and so he could get some love there. Judging by the audience I was sitting with recently, I don't think he's as popular there. Like, all the other Keith Urban shows, Kris got a great reception. At this one, it was much less.

Overall, if he's not being played much on the radio, there, if he's not on the video countdown shows, I guess I don't see what's to be gained by touring.

I bought their album recently. I have yet to listen to it with dedicated attention, but I really like what I've heard. It's very atmospheric and the vocal harmonies are great. The only other album I have on the list is Dan Mangan's (so good!), but I'm familiar with almost all the acts on the list (except the Besnard Lakes, for some reason, even though they're from Montréal).

And yeah, when I look at the situation of Canadian acts not called Nickelback, Justin Bieber, Arcade Fire or Michael Buble, I can totally find that Kris' situation is actually pretty amazing. It's just a whole other ball game for most Canadian artists.

My own opinion wasn't meant to be a put down of the other artist. I just think Kris opening for anyone unknown in the US, no matter how big they are in Canada, or Europe, is probably not going to happen. I could be wrong.

I don't think it's because the potential isn't there though. I don't see why he couldn't be popular here.

I think she stated it in the post before yours. You probably posted at the same time.

I agree with you. Why not? I just don't think it's likely, because pairing Kris with acts unknown in the US would probably (due to US solipsism about all things American) be greeted here with, "Kris Allen is opening for WHO? Wow, I never even HEARD of him! Kris has really hit rock bottom." I mean, even if Kris opened for Hedley, who now play arenas, they are nonetheless unknown in the US, and the response would be the same. I'm not saying it's right.

I don't know if the "attack" was staged, of course, but when I saw the photog. laughing, and trying to (seemingly) avert his face from the camera taking his picture, so as not to appear to be laughing, that didn't strike me as altogether on the up and up. Who laughs when they're getting assaulted? You usually try to defend yourself, unless you know in advance you have nothing to worry about.

Besides, it was mighty convenient there was a second photographer there to capture all the action.

What song's your favourite from Dan Mangan's album, I've been meaning to listen to more of his stuff.

This is my fave from the itunes sampler BTW.

The sure do look angry. Just like when Sean Penn used to do it.

Wait. Broken Social Scene - aren't they the ones who said Hedley and Kalan had no right to be playing at the Junos a few years ago?

Oh, Dan Mangan's album is good from beginning to end. Robots is a hoot. Road regrets is an amazing song (and the video is brilliant). I think my favorite is Basket, but really, it's all good, The Indie Queens are Waiting, Et Les Mots Croisés, etc. I'm going to see him on October 25, 9 days after my darlings Hey Rosetta!

I do like Texico Bitches okay, but I have trouble getting into the Broken Social Scene stuff usually.

Didn't Kris and Allison go to some Southeast Asian countries to do a promo tour and some live shows? Even Jason Castro went there to perform. I don't get it :-? Sorry, but I find it hard to believe those countries are bigger music market than Canada.

As for those paparazzi pics... who the hell cares really? It seems like Adam's every move has to be doubly scrutinized :sad3: . Paparazzi are known to yell out extremely rude things to make a celeb angry and get "good" results on video and in pictures. I remember that Anoop said some paparazzi called him a "stupid f*cking Indian" :angry3:.

Apparently, the pap incident is now the story that doesn't want to die: Adam Lambert Tussles With a Pap in Miami, Accused of Battery | mjsbigblog

Good point about the Asian shows CaspuleNeo. I can't find it now, but I do remember seeing (I think I might even have posted it here) a list where the music markets were listed in descending order and Canada was indeed ranked above the countries Kris went to. The thing is, I'm pretty sure the Idols who go to these Asian countries are very well paid to do so. The talk was that when Archie and Cook went there in May 2009, they were paid somewhere in the six figures for their trip. I'm ready to bet that a trip to Canada wouldn't be as profitable!

Ha! Yeah, probably. :) I don't agree with those opinions, I find them really just short sighted and snobby, but it doesn't affect whether or not I like their music. Kanye for instance.. Lol.

I do like Texico Bitches okay, but I have trouble getting into the Broken Social Scene stuff usually.

They've never really been a fave of mine either, which is strange I think since they're made up of people I love like folk from Metric and Stars and Feist. I've always found it odd that I didn't like them more. But, I love Texico Bitches. Thanks for the Dan Mangan recomendations - I'll check them out for sure.

Maybe it comes down to Starworld in Asia footing most of the bill. Or a chunk of it anyway. I can't see CTV forking over any money whatsoever for Idol promo in Canada. What do you think? CTV is cheap. LOL

Yeah I remember that too. :angry8: TMZ shows paparazzi following people and asking all sorts of rude stuff, and that's what airs on tv. It's ridiculous.

I'm ready to bet that a trip to Canada wouldn't be as profitable!

Okay, first, those Asian countries play Kris's music on the radio. No Boundaries was even a big hit there. LLWD was a hit, and so was BWCU, which isn't even an official single. His concerts attracted tens of thousands of people. That's why he went there.

I don't even remember the original point. What are we debating, again? (I'm serious. I don't remember.)

I don't care about the paparrazzi pictures. To me it's all bullsh*t.

CapsuleNeo, maybe you need to clarify what you're saying, for me. Are you saying you want Kris to tour Canada? Why? Are you a fan?

You were saying that Kris is concentrating in the US for now since it's his biggest target market and we were saying (well, I, at least) that it's still possible for him to do some promotion/shows in other countries at the same time.

I even clicked on the links, back to older posts, so it took me something like an hour or more to read that thing.

I really enjoyed that. (Somebody had linked to it in Kris's Hall of Fame thread on MJ's blog, which is still active.)

Speaking of the HOF, the Arkansas Times got a lot of comments on a simple article about Kris and the other 10 inductees, last week - due to the usual people (or person) making the usual negative comments, and then people arguing with them/her. So now there's another blog post, about that. And people - who actually do appear to be from Arkansas, this time - are making negative comments about Kris because he told Jimmy Kimmel months ago that one of the reasons he tried out for Idol is that there really isn't a music scene in Little Rock.

Someone called him a "twat" for saying that. There are people defending him by saying that even great local bands there often play to crowds of 15 or 20 people, and stuff like that. (But there are also people saying he didn't deserve to be inducted. Despite the fact that it's called the Hall of Fame, and he's the only person on the list who is actually famous.)

Amazing how sensitive people are - you have to be so careful about what you say. Even Kris, who already is careful. Then again, I think it's just what you have to deal with if you become well known.

I was thinking about what you were saying, today, missaddicted, and I think you made a good point about Kris doing some concerts in Canada. If it happened to be in Quebec I don't see why he couldn't open for an act that was big there, even if the act may not be big here. I had to think about it, but now I understand better what you were saying. (Unfortunately, it probably won't happen.)

Crystal sounds great. I just hope she won't end up like Allison

CapsuleNeo, I think I started to ask you something like this before, but since you're a fan of Idol, do you have favorite contestants? Just curious, since I know who the favorites are of the other people who post here. Might give us an idea of what kind of music you like, etc. Naturally, it's up to you, I don't want to twist your arm. :) Have you been an Idol fan for a while? Are you a fan of Canadian Idol?

The Truth has been pulled from the VH1 Top 20. Despite being in the top 10 this week (#9). I really hope that, among other things, this means Jive is planning to release a new single soon.
